Will a VPN let you watch the U.S. version abroad?
Do not treat a VPN as a guaranteed or officially supported way to unlock the U.S. Disney+ catalog. Disney’s U.S. help guidance for Error 73 says the error can occur when someone is in a country where Disney+ is unavailable or is using a VPN or IP anonymizer. Disney’s listed remedy is to access the service from a supported country, disable the VPN or IP anonymizer, and restart the app.
If Disney+ displays Error 73 or a similar location message:
- Confirm that Disney+ operates in your current country or region.
- Turn off any VPN, proxy, or IP-anonymizing service.
- Close and restart the Disney+ app.
- Restart the streaming device if the location error remains.
- Check the catalog available in your current location.
A VPN may also make Disney+ think that your connection is coming from an unsupported or inconsistent location. It is not a substitute for a Disney+ subscription, does not change the legal availability of the series, and cannot guarantee access to a particular country’s library.

If you already subscribe to Disney+ but need a simple way to watch on a television, an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is one compatible option. Disney+ supports Fire TV devices, including Fire TV Stick models running Fire OS 6.0 or later, through the Amazon Appstore.

Those are device capabilities, not a promise that every Disney+ title will play in 4K or with every listed audio format. Actual quality depends on the episode, Disney+ plan, device, television, internet connection, and region.
A streaming stick only provides a playback device. It does not include a Disney+ subscription and does not change which catalog is available in the country where you are watching. If you take one to a hotel or rental property, the television may still require Disney+’s Household verification.
Household checks on hotel and travel TVs
Disney+ allows subscribers to watch on supported devices while away from home, but a connected television may not be recognized as part of the account’s Household. When that happens, Disney+ may show an “I’m Away From Home” option or request a one-time passcode sent to the email address on the account.
Use the official away-from-home option and enter the emailed code if prompted. Disney says Household sharing is intended for devices associated with the subscriber’s primary personal residence. People outside that Household may need their own account or an Extra Member arrangement where that option is available.

Open the audio and subtitle menu before starting an episode, especially after arriving in another country. Disney says language, caption, and subtitle choices can vary by title and location. Your preferred language may not be offered for X-Men ’97 in every market, even if it is available at home.
If a language option is missing, check the title’s available audio and subtitle tracks rather than assuming the app is malfunctioning. You can also review the app’s language settings, but those settings cannot create a track that is not available for that title in your current region.
