To upload your own song to Suno and extend it, open Suno, upload an audio file, then use Suno’s extension workflow to generate music that continues from it. Suno lists editing, remixing, extensions, section replacement, and stem export among its capabilities. The Free Plan accepts audio uploads up to 8 minutes; check Suno’s current uploader for accepted file formats and any limits that apply to your plan.
Prepare The Song You Want To Extend
Choose the version that gives Suno the clearest musical starting point. An unfinished demo can leave room for a new section, while a finished mix gives the extension more context about the existing arrangement. Decide where you want the new music to begin and what should happen next: a verse, chorus, instrumental passage, bridge, or outro.
Before uploading, listen to the ending of the file. If it cuts off in the middle of a lyric or sustained note, the transition may be harder to shape into a deliberate continuation. When possible, export or select a version that ends at a musically useful point. Suno’s listed upload limit for the Free Plan is 8 minutes; the available information here does not establish accepted file types or limits on other plans, so check Suno’s uploader and plan details.
Write down a few details about the source that matter to the continuation: the tempo feel, energy, instrumentation, vocal character, and the mood of the lyrics. These notes help you describe what should carry through and what should change. They are your creative directions, not a guarantee that Suno will preserve every element exactly.

Upload Your Song And Start An Extension
- Go to Suno and sign in. Suno is available on the web and in iOS and Android apps, so choose the version you plan to use for this session.
- Open the music creation area and choose the upload option. The exact screen labels can change, so follow the current Suno interface rather than relying on a fixed button name.
- Select the audio file you prepared and wait for the upload to finish. If it is rejected, check Suno’s current upload guidance for supported formats and limits instead of repeatedly retrying the same file.
- Choose the uploaded song as the source for an extension. Suno lists extensions as a supported editing capability, but the available information does not establish the current control names or every plan’s upload rules.
- Describe the continuation in plain language. Specify the musical role of the next passage and what should stay consistent with the source. Generate a version, listen from the transition, and refine the direction if needed.
Write A Prompt That Gives The Extension A Job
A useful extension prompt says what the new section should do, then identifies the musical identity to retain. Avoid asking for a vague “longer song” when you can say where the arrangement should build, pause, or resolve. Make one or two changes at a time so you can tell which direction helped.
Continue Into A Chorus
Example: “Continue into a memorable chorus. Keep the intimate vocal tone and restrained acoustic arrangement from the source, then let the percussion and backing harmonies build in the chorus. Keep the lyrics focused on leaving home and missing familiar places.” This requests a progression in energy and a lyrical subject; it does not promise Suno will match a specific voice or reproduce the source exactly.

Add An Instrumental Passage
Example: “After the verse, create an instrumental passage that gives the vocal room to rest. Carry forward the source’s relaxed pulse and warm guitar feel, add a melodic answer between phrases, and return to the main vocal section.” If the original contains a signature riff or an exact melody that must be preserved, listen closely to the output; do not assume an extension will reproduce it note for note.

Example: “Move into a quieter bridge with reduced percussion and a more reflective mood, then build toward a resolved outro. Keep the same broad lyrical perspective and overall style as the uploaded song.” These are prompt ideas rather than verified genre presets. If a particular genre, instrument, language, or vocal configuration is essential, check Suno’s current controls and results rather than assuming it is supported in a particular way.

Review The Transition Before Keeping A Version
Listen to the end of the upload and the start of the generated continuation together. Check whether the tempo feel, vocal entrance, energy, and instrumentation make the handoff sound intentional. Then listen through the new section to see whether it reaches the destination you requested.
- If the new part changes direction too abruptly, ask for a gentler transition and name the source qualities you want carried forward.
- If the arrangement stays static, describe a specific build, drop, or change in instrumentation rather than asking only for more energy.
- If the lyric or vocal result is unsuitable, use Suno’s listed editing or section replacement capabilities where available, and check the current interface for the relevant controls.
- Keep the original upload and compare versions before settling on one. Suno lists extensions and section replacement, but that does not establish that every generated detail can be edited or controlled precisely.
Save And Export The Result
Suno lists stem export as a capability. If you need separate parts for a video edit, documentary soundtrack, or a later mix, check the controls and plan details in your account to confirm what exports are available to you. The available information does not establish export formats or plan-specific stem limits, so verify those details with Suno before building a delivery workflow around them.

For a project that needs an exact duration or a carefully timed transition, review the final audio in your editing or production setup. Do not assume the generated continuation will land on a precise runtime or line up with picture without adjustment.
Check Rights And Permission Before Publishing
Suno’s Free Plan does not include commercial rights, according to its listed plan limitations. Check Suno’s current terms for the rights attached to your plan and intended use before publishing or monetizing an extended track. If the uploaded song includes another person’s composition, recording, performance, or voice, get the permissions you need from the relevant rights holders and performers, and follow Suno’s terms for uploaded material. When An Extension Is The Wrong Starting Point
Use an extension when you want new music to continue from your uploaded song. If your goal is to transform the existing song instead, Suno also lists remixing as a capability; if you need only to revise one passage, section replacement may be a better fit. The exact controls and availability can depend on Suno’s current interface and plan, so confirm them in your account before choosing the workflow.
