Changing a YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium membership is different from moving playlists from another music service—and neither documented workflow asks you to create a new YouTube channel. Before changing anything, confirm the Google account and selected channel you intend to keep. In India, also check which provider bills your membership and whether your bank supports its recurring-payment mandate.
First, identify what you want to switch
“Switch YouTube loop streaming services” can mean either changing a YouTube membership or moving your music library to YouTube Music. These are separate tasks:
- Changing a membership: Use YouTube’s paid-membership controls for the Google account that holds the subscription. The documented process does not require a new channel, but YouTube does not explicitly guarantee that every channel-specific setting or account detail is unaffected in every configuration.
- Moving music: Transfer eligible playlists from another music service to YouTube Music. This is not a migration of your YouTube channel or a continuing sync between services.
Before either task, check the profile icon in YouTube or YouTube Music and verify the Google account and selected channel. If you have multiple accounts or channels, do not assume the currently displayed one is the account being billed.
Change a YouTube Premium or Music Premium membership
- Open the membership page for the service you use. For YouTube Premium, go to YouTube paid memberships. For YouTube Music Premium, open the YouTube Music paid-memberships page.
- Select Manage membership. Review the membership and payment preferences shown for the account before making a change.
- Choose the available membership change or payment option and follow the on-screen prompts. The choices displayed depend on your account and billing arrangement; use the options on your own membership screen rather than relying on a price quoted elsewhere.
- Confirm the resulting status and billing provider. If Apple, Google Play, or another partner bills you, you may need to manage or cancel the membership through that provider rather than directly on YouTube.
YouTube’s documented family-to-individual membership change applies across YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube Kids. That guidance is about membership access; it is not a blanket promise covering every channel type or all channel-specific data.

India: check recurring payment verification
YouTube says recurring memberships in India may require you to verify or re-enter payment details under Reserve Bank of India eMandate requirements. Whether recurring payments work can vary by bank. Follow the prompt shown in the app or on youtube.com, and verify which account and payment provider actually bills your subscription. If a mandate cannot be completed, contact the billing provider or bank shown for the transaction.
Check for duplicate subscriptions before buying another plan
YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music Premium benefits. If you already have Premium and are considering a separate Music Premium membership, check the memberships associated with the account first; YouTube says a separate Music Premium subscription may be canceled to avoid duplicate charges. If another company bills it, cancel through that company. A recently canceled membership can remain active until the end of its billing period, so you may need to wait for it to expire before purchasing another plan. Choose between Premium Lite and Premium in India
Google announced on 12 March 2026 that Premium Lite background play and downloads were rolling out for most videos in India. The announcement distinguishes that coverage from YouTube Premium: Premium covers all videos ad-free, offline, and in the background, including music content, and includes YouTube Music Premium. Lite should not be treated as equivalent to the music benefits of Premium.

Move playlists from another music service to YouTube Music
YouTube Music offers a direct playlist-transfer workflow for Apple Music. For services without a direct transfer route—including Spotify and Amazon Music examples in YouTube’s guidance—you may need a third-party transfer tool. YouTube names Soundiiz and Tune My Music as examples, but says it has no formal relationship with those services and does not guarantee their quality.
- Open YouTube Music’s transfer guidance. Use Transfer your playlists from another service and follow the route for your source service.
- For Apple Music, use the direct transfer option described there. Sign in and authorize only as directed by the services involved; review the playlists selected for transfer.
- For a service without direct transfer, choose a third-party tool if you are comfortable granting it access. Follow that tool’s current instructions, review its privacy and permissions, then select the playlists or other supported library items to copy.
- Allow time for matching and review the result. YouTube says transfers can take several hours, and some songs may fail to match. Compare the destination playlist with the original and add or correct missing tracks manually.
A playlist transfer is a copy, not an ongoing connection: the music remains in the old service, and later changes in YouTube Music do not automatically sync back or between services. Podcasts cannot be imported or exported through this workflow. For a service switch, decide whether you need to keep maintaining two separate libraries and check the destination service’s catalog for anything essential before canceling the old subscription.

Country and availability limits
YouTube’s paid-service terms say Premium features can vary by geography, device, and operating system. They also say a Premium service should be used in the country where the subscription was signed up; predominant use outside that country or misrepresenting the sign-up country may violate the terms and result in loss of access.
