Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteYou can stream kirtan on YouTube continuously with OBS Studio by preparing your channel in YouTube Studio, adding your music and visuals to an OBS scene, connecting OBS with your YouTube stream key, and starting the broadcast. The key limitation: a single 24/7 YouTube stream may not be archived because streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Clear rights for the live broadcast and any replay, and arrange local monitoring and recording if continuity or an archive matters.
Choose how the kirtan will reach viewers
The setup depends on whether you are broadcasting a performance happening now or playing recorded material. For a live performance, OBS needs the relevant camera and audio inputs. For prerecorded kirtan, add the authorized audio and visuals as media sources. In either case, use only material you have permission to broadcast and, if applicable, archive.
- Live performance: Add suitable camera and audio input sources to an OBS scene, then check that the instruments, voices, and picture are reaching OBS at the intended levels.
- Recorded kirtan: Add a media source for the recording and any authorized artwork or video. Test how the selected media and your OBS version behave at the end of a file; do not assume a source will restart and loop unattended indefinitely without testing.
OBS Studio is free and open source. It encodes and sends the program feed to the streaming service you select.
Prepare YouTube before the planned broadcast
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so complete this well before the intended launch.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Sign in to YouTube and verify the channel if you have not already done so.
- Enable live streaming and confirm that the channel is eligible. If this is the first activation, allow time for it to become available.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Create a stream or schedule one. Set its title, description, and privacy, and review the stream settings before sharing the viewing link.
YouTube lets creators reuse stream settings. If you want a reusable connection, a custom stream key can be configured for reuse. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the associated broadcast. Keep it private and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
Build and test the OBS scene
- Open OBS Studio and create a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the sources that match your format: camera and audio inputs for a live performance, or media and visual sources for recorded material.
- Play representative content and check the OBS preview. Listen for clipping, silence, unwanted room noise, or an audio-video mismatch; check that the picture is framed as intended.
- For a recorded source, test the end-of-file behavior and any restart or looping setup you plan to use. Check it through a full playback cycle before relying on it for continuous operation.
Keep the scene simple enough to monitor. A decorative image or video is not permission to use it: confirm rights for every audio and visual element in the stream.

Connect OBS to YouTube and go live
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect the appropriate account or enter the server URL and stream key shown for the YouTube broadcast. Use RTMPS where available.
- Confirm that the stream key belongs to the intended channel and broadcast. Do not paste it into public chat, a shared document, or the stream description.
- Start streaming from OBS. In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and review the stream health information.
- Once the preview and audio are correct, take the broadcast live using the workflow shown for that stream in Live Control Room. If you scheduled the stream, check that the scheduled event is the one receiving the OBS feed.
Set video and encoder settings the connection can sustain
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance as a starting point, then test under representative motion and audio while watching stream health. A setting that works in a short test may still fail if the sustained upload connection is unstable.
| Setting | Practical guidance |
|---|---|
| Rate control | Use CBR, as YouTube recommends. |
| Keyframe interval | Set 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds. |
| Frame rate | YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Choose a frame rate the source and connection can sustain. |
| Codec | H.264 is among the supported codecs. |
| Bitrate | Bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec. YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 1080p at 30 fps is 14 Mbps; that is not a universal setting for every stream. |
| Resolution | Choose according to your source material and tested upload capacity. Lower the resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the selected output. |
OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help establish basic settings. It does not replace a test of the actual scene and connection. YouTube’s encoder recommendations can change, so check its current settings guidance when configuring a new broadcast.

Plan for archives and continuous operation
A 24/7 broadcast is not a reliable single YouTube archive
YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured and recommends keeping a local archive backup. Google’s Full Live Production Guide says streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived, but that should not be treated as a promise that a 24/7 broadcast will produce one complete replay.
If viewers need separate replayable broadcasts, plan shorter segments and account for the extra starts, stops, and monitoring. If preserving the full program matters, record locally as well and check that the recording storage can accommodate the chosen bitrate and retention period. Confirm rights separately for the live stream and any on-demand upload.

Assign monitoring and failure recovery
A locally run OBS stream depends on the host computer, its power, the media or performance sources, and the internet connection remaining available. Decide who will monitor the stream and how they will respond if audio stops, the computer restarts, or YouTube reports a connection problem.
- Keep the computer powered and prevent sleep or scheduled shutdown during the broadcast.
- Check the source playback, audio, and stream health during operation rather than relying only on the initial preview.
- A UPS may bridge some local power interruptions, but it does not protect against internet, encoder, hardware, or platform failures.
- Keep a local recording if an archive is important, and verify a test recording before depending on it.
Clear music and visual rights
Devotional purpose, public availability, attribution, or owning a copy of a recording does not by itself establish permission to broadcast or archive it. Google’s production guidance advises obtaining the necessary clearances for the live stream, rebroadcast, and audio or video on demand. Check that permissions cover the specific recordings, compositions, performances, and visuals you plan to use, as well as each intended use.

YouTube’s live Content ID matching is a restricted rights-management feature for eligible Content Manager partners, not a creator’s shortcut for checking whether a song is cleared. Its matching requirements concern global rights and exclusive ownership for that use; matches can result in warnings, stream replacement, or termination. Do not treat Content ID status as a substitute for your own permissions.
Troubleshoot common OBS-to-YouTube problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show an incoming preview | OBS is not sending to the intended event, or the server URL or stream key is incorrect. | Check the selected YouTube service, event, server URL, and key. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update OBS. |
| Dropped frames rise during the broadcast | The connection to YouTube is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. | Check OBS and YouTube stream health, test upload stability, and reduce bitrate or resolution if necessary. OBS guidance identifies rising dropped frames as a sign to investigate the connection. |
| Audio is silent, distorted, or mismatched | The wrong input or media source may be active, or its levels and playback have not been checked. | Listen to the OBS preview and make a representative test. Confirm the intended audio source and that it plays throughout the media cycle. |
| The prerecorded source stops | The media reached its end, or its configured end/restart behavior is not what the broadcast needs. | Test a complete playback cycle with the chosen source and OBS version. Do not assume unattended looping until that behavior has been verified. |
| The stream ends or the local computer goes offline | A power, computer, network, source, or platform interruption may have stopped the encoder. | Check the local machine, internet connection, OBS state, and YouTube status. Establish a monitoring and restart plan before a long broadcast. |
| The full 24-hour replay is missing | YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours. | Use a local recording for a full copy or plan shorter broadcasts when YouTube archives are needed. |
| A warning or interruption appears over the music | A rights claim or enforcement action may affect the live content. | Review the notice and your permissions; do not assume that attribution or a purchased file grants streaming rights. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded kirtan playing on YouTube without leaving an OBS computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it is not a camera-based live performance setup.
- Nothing at home has to stay on for the stream to continue.
- One flat price per slot covers the quality of the uploaded video, up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- It automatically attempts recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month.
StreamNeo includes one always-on stream per slot, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, and support from the StreamNeo team. See StreamNeo for details. Start the free first day on StreamNeo.
