To stream a rotating set of prerecorded new-home walkthroughs as YouTube Live, play the files in streaming software such as OBS Studio and send its continuous encoded output to YouTube. In OBS, a VLC Video source can hold several files in order and repeat them; YouTube receives one live stream, not a YouTube playlist played directly on air.
What you need before you start
- Walkthrough video files that you own or have permission to stream, with audio checked.
- A computer that can play the files and remain on, connected, and running OBS for the broadcast.
- OBS Studio and VLC installed. OBS’s VLC Video source is available when VLC is installed; see the OBS media sources documentation.
- A YouTube channel eligible to live stream. YouTube’s getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; it also specifies a minimum age. First-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so set this up ahead of your planned broadcast. Check YouTube Studio and its current live-streaming readiness guidance for the requirements that apply to your account.
Set up the rotating playlist in OBS
- Prepare and organize the videos. Put the tour files in a folder you can find easily. Decide the sequence and whether viewers need a brief title card between homes. Open each file locally and check that the picture, narration, and other audio are correct.
- Create a scene and add the playlist source. In OBS, select or create a scene, then add a VLC Video Source. If that source is missing, install VLC and reopen OBS. The OBS source documentation explains that, unlike Media Source, VLC Video can create a playlist of items.
- Add and order the files. Add the walkthrough files to the source’s playlist and arrange them in the intended order. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a predictable rotation; turn on Loop Playlist to restart from the beginning after the final file.
- Check the scene before connecting. Preview the scene in OBS and confirm that the video fits the canvas, the audio is audible, and files advance as expected. If you use a title card or other scene element, check that it does not cover important parts of the tour.
OBS documents the source controls, but it cannot confirm that your particular media files or setup work correctly. Test the actual files and sequence before scheduling a public broadcast.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. Follow YouTube’s current encoder streaming instructions.
- Open the stream’s settings in YouTube Studio and copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube explains the relevant stream settings. The key is a credential that lets YouTube accept the encoder feed: treat it like a password and never show it in a screen recording, overlay, or public post.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Verify that the correct event is selected and that YouTube is receiving the intended scene before starting the public broadcast.
Test, schedule, and monitor the broadcast
- Test the complete rotation. Confirm that each walkthrough starts, its audio plays, and the playlist proceeds to the next file and loops as configured. Preview the incoming stream in YouTube Studio, then check the watch page and playback on a mobile device.
- Schedule and label it accurately. Scheduling can provide an upcoming watch page, a shareable URL, and reminder options. Use a title and description that make clear that this is a live broadcast of prerecorded walkthroughs; identify homes or developments accurately.
- Keep watch during transmission. Monitor playback, sound, frozen or dropped media, and transitions between homes. The computer and OBS must remain available throughout this local-computer workflow.
- End it cleanly. End the broadcast in YouTube Studio, then stop the encoder in OBS. YouTube’s stream management guidance covers managing streams and archives; interface details can change.
Choose a setup that fits the broadcast
| Option | When it fits | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| OBS with VLC Video source | You already have tour files and a computer to operate the broadcast. | The computer, network connection, and software must stay available and correctly configured. |
| Hardware encoder | Your production already uses dedicated broadcast hardware or has a hardware-based workflow. | YouTube supports hardware encoders, but prerecorded playlist rotation does not by itself require buying one; weigh it against software you already have. |
| StreamNeo | You want a YouTube playlist broadcast that continues without leaving a local computer running. | StreamNeo is a cloud service for uploaded videos and YouTube streams; check that its upload-based workflow suits your tours. |
For a creator with suitable tour files and a computer available, OBS is a practical starting point. If the key requirement is that the stream keep running with the computer off, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative: it plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not camera footage or streams to other platforms.
Rights, disclosure, and YouTube policy
Clear the rights for every part of every tour before streaming: video, music, photographs, graphics, and other included material. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. It may display a warning or placeholder and may interrupt or terminate a stream if the content remains. Its live-stream copyright guidance also notes that licensed third-party content can still trigger interruption unless the rights owner allowlists the channel through Content ID.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Permission to film or show a property, occupants, or sales materials depends on your situation; YouTube’s general copyright guidance does not determine those permissions. Describe the broadcast honestly as prerecorded walkthroughs being streamed live, rather than implying that the footage is a live camera tour.
Cost and operating trade-offs
The OBS workflow uses streaming software with files you already have, but it requires a local computer and ongoing attention to playback and connection. A hardware encoder is an option for a production that already needs hardware, not a requirement for rotating prerecorded files. A cloud service can remove the need to keep a home computer running, but compare the vendor’s current capabilities, pricing, and terms before relying on it.
