You can stream recorded gaming highlights to YouTube as an encoder-based live broadcast: prepare a continuous video feed, connect it to a YouTube stream with your stream URL and key, then preview and start the broadcast in Live Control Room. For a 24/7 channel, also plan for rights checks, monitoring, recovery if the feed stops, and a separate archive—YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
Before you build the highlights feed
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Your broadcast must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Check eligibility before preparing a long-running schedule in YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
Check the rights to every part of the broadcast
Make sure you have the rights needed for the gameplay recordings, music, and any third-party clips. Game publishers set the terms for commercial use of game footage; owning a game or recording your play does not by itself establish that you can monetize the footage. YouTube notes that extended videos simply showing gameplay may not be accepted for monetization, while instructional commentary closely tied to the action may qualify. Read YouTube’s guidance on video game and software content and the applicable publisher terms.
Copyright clearance and monetization eligibility are separate. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. Even a licence may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Give the channel original editorial value
A playlist of licensed clips can still face monetization concerns if it is repetitive or adds too little original value. YouTube’s monetization policies cover both inauthentic, repetitive material and reused content, with review potentially applying across the channel. Shape the stream through deliberate selection, context, commentary, analysis, storytelling, or other substantive original treatment; this can reduce policy risk but cannot guarantee monetization approval. Prepare a continuous highlights feed
Use an encoder or hosted streaming service that can feed prerecorded video into a YouTube live broadcast. YouTube documents encoder streaming for gameplay, but playlist and loop controls depend on the tool you choose. Before going live, decide how the clips will run continuously, how transitions will work, and what viewers will see if the playlist reaches its end.

- Arrange highlights into a coherent sequence rather than relying on an unedited, bare loop.
- Check the audio and video of each clip, including transitions between files.
- Confirm that your chosen encoder or service can repeat the feed or maintain a schedule for the time you need.
- If you want to keep a separate copy, arrange local recording or another archive independently of YouTube.
YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary for encoder streaming. Its live-streaming tips cover testing, monitoring, and encoder use for gameplay.
Set up the YouTube live stream
- Open Live Control Room. Create or schedule an encoder-based stream. Enter the title, description, category, visibility, and other metadata for the broadcast. Choose settings that accurately describe a recurring highlights channel and the material viewers will see.
- Get the stream URL and key. YouTube displays these in the encoder setup. In your encoder or hosted service, enter the YouTube stream URL and key in the corresponding connection fields. YouTube describes the key as the stream’s password and address; keep it private and do not publish it or include it in a public recording.
- Set video and audio options. Choose a resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval supported by both your source feed and encoder. Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations rather than assuming one setting fits every source or connection; its live-streaming tips are the relevant reference. The material here does not establish one universal bitrate or keyframe value for every gaming highlights stream.
- Start the feed and check the preview. Start the encoder or hosted playlist. Wait for the incoming picture and sound to appear in Live Control Room, then check the watch page and listen for audio problems before starting the public broadcast.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Use the Live Control Room controls to begin the stream. Watch the stream-health information while it runs and confirm that the feed continues through clip changes. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the stream URL/key workflow and launch process.
Choose a way to keep the stream running
The main choice is whether to run the feed on a computer you control or use a hosted service. Compare unattended operation, loop controls, recovery, source-file handling, schedule limits, monitoring, recording, and plan terms before committing to a setup. YouTube’s documentation does not establish a universal winner or validate any provider’s uptime.

Keep an archive and a recovery plan
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that duration, so do not rely on YouTube as the only copy of the highlights or as a single uninterrupted archive. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive and checking that the recording file is growing and intact. Read its archive live streams guidance.
- Where practical, record the feed locally and periodically check that the archive is being written correctly.
- Decide who will notice a stopped or degraded feed and what they will do to restart it.
- Keep the YouTube stream key private. If it is exposed or compromised, reset it through YouTube’s stream settings; see Manage live stream settings.

Troubleshoot common problems
The stream does not appear in Live Control Room
Check that the encoder is running and that you entered the stream URL and key shown for this broadcast. Confirm the key was not reset after you copied it. Restart the feed after correcting the connection details, then wait for the preview before launching.
The preview appears, but the broadcast will not start
Confirm that the channel meets YouTube’s live-stream eligibility requirements and that the broadcast is configured in Live Control Room. If the channel has a live-stream restriction, resolve that eligibility issue rather than repeatedly restarting the encoder.

The picture or audio fails during a clip change
Inspect the affected files and the playlist transition in your encoder or service. Test the sequence before returning it to the live feed, and check that the selected video and audio settings are supported by the source and encoder. Monitor the preview after restarting the playlist.
The stream stops or is interrupted
Check the encoder or service status, its connection to YouTube, and the stream-health information in Live Control Room. Copyright matching can also interrupt a broadcast, so review YouTube’s notices and the rights for the material. Restart the feed only after identifying whether the cause is a connection, configuration, or content issue.
The YouTube archive is missing or incomplete
For a stream longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns that the broadcast may not be captured at all. Check any local recording or separate archive instead; for the next run, verify that local recording is enabled and that its file is growing.
