Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteLoop the playlist inside your encoder and keep the same encoder feed connected to the same YouTube live event. For one video, enable Loop in OBS Media Source; for several videos, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist. That avoids restarting the event just to replay content, but it does not guarantee YouTube will create one archive file. If the archive matters, keep the stream under 12 hours, record locally, and verify that the recording is growing.
Why a playlist loop can still leave you with a split archive
The playlist loop controls media playback in the encoder; it does not control how YouTube archives a live event. Keep the encoder running through each transition and do not end and restart the YouTube event merely to restart the playlist. Even then, looping alone is not a guarantee of one archive file: YouTube’s archive guidance and the encoder’s playback loop address separate things.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. It warns that “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” That is a capture caveat, not a promise that longer streams will be split into usable parts. See YouTube’s Archive live streams guidance.
Set up the loop without restarting the live event
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream. Connect your encoder with the event’s YouTube stream URL and stream key. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions; keep the stream key private.
- Choose the OBS source for your media. For one file, add a Media Source and enable Loop. For a multi-file playlist, add a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. OBS documents these controls in its Media Sources guide.
- Test a transition before going live. Confirm the file plays and the loop returns to the beginning; for a playlist, check that playback advances through the items and starts over. Resolve missing-file or playback problems before sending the feed to YouTube.
- Start the encoder feed and confirm the event is live. Check YouTube’s preview or live status. Leave the encoder session and event running while the playlist repeats; do not stop and restart the event as a way to loop the content.
- Keep the session within the archive window if you need YouTube’s automatic archive. Plan to stop before 12 hours. The stated guidance is that shorter streams can be archived automatically, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; neither outcome guarantees a single archive file in every case.
- Record a local backup. Start local recording and check that the file exists, its size is increasing, and it can be opened or played. YouTube also recommends keeping a local archive; see YouTube live streaming tips. Ensure the recording destination has enough available space for the session.
- End in order. After the event has stopped on YouTube, stop the encoder. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains ending the stream at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Single video or multi-file playlist?
| What you want to repeat | OBS source | Loop control |
|---|---|---|
| One video file | Media Source | Enable Loop |
| Several files in sequence | VLC Video | Enable Loop Playlist |
These settings repeat media in OBS. They do not set YouTube’s archive behavior or merge archive segments.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What to do if YouTube still splits the archive
- Preserve the local recording first. Do not delete or overwrite the backup while investigating. Confirm its file size and playback so you know whether it is a usable copy.
- Check for a stop or restart. Review whether the encoder feed or YouTube event was stopped and started during the session. This is useful diagnostic context, but the available guidance does not establish a single cause for every split archive.
- Check session length. If the stream exceeded 12 hours, YouTube says it may not be captured at all. The limit is not a setting that promises a clean split or merge.
- Keep the copies you have. The guidance cited here does not establish a setting that merges archive segments. Keep the local file intact while deciding how to publish or preserve the material.
DVR is not an archive-splitting fix
DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue while a stream is live. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Turning DVR off removes the ability to seek backward during the live stream; it does not merge or repair archives. Viewers can still watch the full recording after it becomes available. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.

If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not go live from a camera, and it does not change YouTube’s archive-duration guidance or guarantee that YouTube will produce a single archive.
