You can run OBS on an India-region cloud server and send its output to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The setup is: enable live streaming on your channel, choose a cloud machine that can handle your OBS scenes and encoder continuously, connect OBS to YouTube, then test the stream and plan for interruptions and archives. A server’s location alone does not guarantee adequate performance, reliability, or low cost; check its graphics support, network capacity, operating-system licensing, and recurring compute and outbound-transfer charges with the provider.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the process.
- A cloud server suitable for OBS. Match the operating system, graphics support, encoder, output format, and scene complexity to the workload you intend to run.
- A prepared stream. For example, an OBS scene can include media, images, and text. Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream, and check YouTube’s copyright requirements before going live.
- A cost and operations plan. Confirm the provider’s India-region availability, continuous compute and outbound data-transfer charges, and how you will respond if OBS or the connection stops.
Choose an India cloud server that can run your OBS workload
Start with the OBS system requirements for your chosen operating system, but treat them as compatibility floors, not a promise that a particular machine can stream reliably. OBS explicitly warns that a compatible system is not necessarily capable of streaming or recording with OBS Studio.
Check the graphics and encoding path
Decide whether your workload will use a hardware encoder or software encoding on the CPU. Hardware encoding can move encoding work from the CPU to a specialized component, but only if the cloud instance exposes supported graphics hardware and drivers. Verify that availability with the provider; do not assume that a virtual machine includes a usable GPU or encoder.
Match capacity to the actual scene
Encoding demand depends on the output resolution and frame rate, the encoder, and what the scene contains. A simple looping media scene and a layered scene with multiple sources are not the same workload. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then observe encoding load and connection indicators while running the scene you plan to broadcast.

Verify India-region costs and recovery
Ask the cloud provider to confirm the instance’s region and availability, operating-system licensing, storage charges if you retain recordings, and outbound data-transfer charges. For a 24/7 stream, calculate ongoing costs rather than relying on an introductory or hourly figure alone. Also establish how you or the provider can restore OBS after a restart or disconnection. A cloud server is not automatically reliable, and no particular India-region instance, price, or failover capability is established here.

- Encoding headroom: supported hardware encoder or enough CPU capacity for the scene and output settings.
- Network stability: ability to sustain the configured bitrate over time, not just a headline bandwidth figure.
- Continuous-use cost: compute, OS licensing, storage, and outbound traffic.
- Recovery plan: how OBS will restart and reconnect after a failure, and who is responsible for doing it.
Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Enable live streaming on YouTube. Complete channel activation in advance. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Install OBS on the cloud server. Follow the OBS Quick Start Guide for the selected operating system. Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard as an initial configuration aid; it considers hardware and network conditions, but it cannot replace a test under your actual workload. - Build the scene. In OBS, add the sources your broadcast needs, such as a media source, images, or text. Set the output resolution, frame rate, and encoder to settings the server can sustain. There is no universally suitable bitrate or encoder preset for every instance and scene; validate your configuration on the chosen server.
- Configure encoding. If selecting hardware encoding, first confirm that the instance exposes compatible graphics hardware and drivers. OBS describes the trade-off in its hardware encoding guide. If the hardware path is unavailable, choose an encoding option the machine can handle and test its load.
- Create or select a YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live, then select the Stream tab. Create a stream or choose an existing one. Copy the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open OBS’s stream settings, select the appropriate service configuration, and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that stream. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS with the new key.
- Start the encoder and verify the preview. Click Start Streaming in OBS. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room and click Go live there when ready. Confirm that YouTube receives the intended picture and sound.
- Test before relying on it. Watch OBS’s connection and encoding indicators during a realistic test. Confirm that the stream remains stable under the intended scene and output settings, and that someone knows how to respond if it stops.
Keep the stream running and plan for YouTube archives
A 24/7 broadcast depends on OBS remaining active and maintaining a network connection capable of the configured bitrate. The cloud location does not remove the need to monitor the encoder, connection, and instance. Decide who will notice an interruption and how OBS will be restarted and reconnected; do not assume a provider will automatically restore the broadcast.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 channel should therefore plan how to manage stream sessions and archives rather than assuming one uninterrupted broadcast will become a single archive. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

When dropped frames appear
OBS identifies dropped frames as a network stability or capacity issue. Check whether the server’s connection can sustain the configured bitrate; if it cannot, lower the bitrate and test again. Use OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide to diagnose connection problems.
When considering HLS
The standard encoder workflow uses the server URL and key provided in Live Control Room. YouTube also documents HLS ingestion for compatible encoders, with segment-format and timing requirements, and notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Do not switch to HLS for a routine OBS setup unless you need its supported features and have confirmed that your OBS version and configuration support the intended protocol. Troubleshoot common setup problems
- You cannot start a live stream: check that live streaming is enabled for the channel. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive OBS’s feed: check that OBS has the correct server URL and current stream key from the selected stream in Live Control Room. If the key was exposed or changed, update the OBS settings.
- OBS connects but drops frames: investigate network stability and capacity. Reduce the configured bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, then test again.
- Encoding overload or an unstable picture: check the server’s encoding load and whether the selected hardware encoder and drivers are actually available. Revisit the output settings and scene complexity, then test under the intended workload.
- The stream ends or OBS stops after a server restart: follow your recovery plan to restore OBS and reconnect it. Confirm with the provider what happens after instance restarts; automatic restart or failover is not guaranteed by using a cloud server.
- You expect a single archive for a 24/7 broadcast: account for YouTube’s automatic-archive behavior for streams under 12 hours when planning stream sessions and archive management.
