You can build a YouTube lofi radio stream to run continuously, but no setup can guarantee that it will never stop. You need music cleared for livestreaming, a visual-and-audio loop, and an encoder or hosted service that keeps sending the feed to YouTube. You also need to monitor stream health and be ready to recover from interruptions.
What keeps a YouTube lofi radio stream live?
YouTube separates the viewer-facing broadcast from the stream that carries its audio and video. Its API documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast continuing while another broadcast is started and completed, showing that a continuous feed can be managed separately from individual broadcast events. In practice, something must keep transmitting the audiovisual feed for the ongoing stream to stay live. YouTube Live Streaming API documentation
That transmitter can be an encoder running on a computer you control or a hosted streaming service. Neither choice makes the stream immune to copyright enforcement, connection problems, encoder failures, or YouTube restrictions. Plan for continuity and recovery rather than literal, guaranteed nonstop operation.
Prepare the channel and music before launch
Enable live streaming early
If this is your first YouTube livestream, enable the feature at least 24 hours before the planned start. YouTube for Artists directs creators to select Create, choose Go live, enable live streaming, and verify the account by phone. Follow the current prompts in YouTube Studio, since interface details can change. YouTube for Artists: live streaming

Clear the music for the exact use
Do not assume that a track described as “copyright-free” is automatically safe. Confirm that your permission covers a YouTube livestream, the territories where you expect it to be available, and any monetization conditions that apply. If you want the stream archived, check that the rights also cover the replay. Keep records of licenses and permissions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; if the content continues, the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated. A strike can also end a stream. YouTube says creators using licensed third-party content should ask the rights holder to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted, and territorial restrictions do not necessarily prevent interruption. Archived livestreams may receive Content ID claims after they end. YouTube Help: copyright issues with live streams

YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when planning to use copyright-protected music. That coordination is not a substitute for confirming that your rights cover the stream and replay. YouTube for Artists: live streaming
Build and test the continuous feed
Choose how to run the encoder
With a self-hosted setup, your own computer runs the encoder and sends the feed to YouTube. It gives you direct control, but the computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available. A mini PC is one possible category of machine for this job; there is no single required model or specification established here. A hosted service moves the continuous playback and transmission off your local computer, but you should check the service’s current capabilities and terms before relying on it.

Make the audiovisual loop and test the whole path
Prepare the lofi audio and the visual that will accompany it, then configure your chosen playback and encoding setup to send a continuous feed. The right loop-building method depends on the software or service you choose; YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe a specific encoder or a consumer recipe. Test the complete signal path in an unlisted stream before your public launch, as YouTube for Artists recommends. Confirm that audio and video continue playing and that the feed reaches YouTube as expected.
Monitor and plan for recovery
YouTube’s LiveStreams API exposes stream status and health information, including categories of configuration issues. Monitoring can help you notice problems, but it does not guarantee uptime or itself provide automatic recovery. Decide how you will respond if the encoder, connection, or YouTube feed fails, and check the stream after launch rather than assuming it will run indefinitely. YouTube LiveStreams API documentation

Common problems and what to check
- The channel cannot go live yet: Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio and complete phone verification. If this is your first stream, allow at least 24 hours after enabling it before the planned launch.
- The stream is replaced or interrupted: Check whether YouTube detected third-party content. Stop using disputed material and resolve the rights issue; if the music is licensed, ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel.
- The feed stops reaching YouTube: Check whether the encoder or hosted playback is still running and whether its connection to YouTube remains active. Use available stream status and health information to identify configuration issues, then restore the feed using your recovery plan.
- The live stream worked but the replay receives a claim: Review whether your permissions also cover the archived livestream, and address any Content ID claim through the applicable rights process.
Costs and expectations
A self-hosted approach may involve buying and maintaining a computer and keeping it powered and connected; a hosted service shifts those operating responsibilities to a provider and usually has its own recurring price. The available YouTube documentation does not establish objective cost or uptime figures for either approach, so compare the actual hardware, electricity, service terms, and recovery options for your situation. A continuous stream is an operational goal, not a promise of uninterrupted service.
