You can run a continuous cartoon stream on a spare PC by connecting a computer encoder to a YouTube Studio livestream and keeping the encoder, source playback, network connection, and PC running. First confirm that you have the rights to stream every cartoon and soundtrack. YouTube may interrupt streams that contain unapproved third-party material, and it warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be saved as archives.
Before you set up the stream
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it and confirm access before planning a launch. See YouTube’s livestreaming enablement guidance.
Confirm the rights to every cartoon and soundtrack
You need permission for public livestreaming of the cartoons and all accompanying audio. YouTube says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can cause a placeholder to replace your stream, followed by interruption or termination if the material remains. If you have a license, ask the rights holder whether your channel needs to be added to its Content ID allowlist; having a license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption. Check the PC and connection you actually have
A spare PC is not automatically capable of encoding a stable 24/7 stream at a particular resolution or bitrate. Its operating system, processor or graphics encoder, cooling, disk space, and reliability all matter. Test your chosen playback and encoder together before relying on them for a long broadcast. YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom beyond the stream’s total bitrate; measure the connection rather than assuming it can sustain the stream.

Create and connect the YouTube livestream
- Enable livestreaming. In YouTube Studio, start the livestreaming enablement process for the channel and complete verification if prompted. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. Open YouTube Studio, choose Create and then Go live, and set up a stream in the Live Control Room. Keep the stream key private; anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Choose the encoder protocol and settings. Enter the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio in the encoder you use. YouTube documents RTMP/RTMPS workflows and a separate HLS workflow for compatible encoders. Use the option supported by your encoder; HLS has higher latency than RTMP and additional segment and transport requirements. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and HLS ingestion requirements.
- Set resolution and bitrate based on testing. Match the output to the source video and what the spare PC can encode reliably. The available evidence does not establish a safe one-size-fits-all resolution or bitrate for an unspecified PC. Keep total stream bitrate within measured upload capacity, with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that video and audio appear correctly in the Live Control Room preview before going live. Check for missing audio, black frames, stutters, or an unintended crop.
- Go live and monitor the broadcast. Watch stream quality and confirm that the source continues playing. If you are recording locally, check that the recording file keeps growing.
Make the broadcast continuous
A one-time connection test does not prove a spare PC can run unattended around the clock. Before calling the setup 24/7, test the complete source-playback and encoder workflow for an extended period. Confirm how your particular playback and encoding software handles the end of a video, the next item in a playlist, a lost connection, and a PC restart. YouTube’s encoder instructions do not prescribe a specific playlist-automation app, restart routine, or seamless failover method.
- Keep the PC powered on and prevent sleep or automatic shutdown while streaming.
- Check that the source files and any playlist are available locally or otherwise remain accessible throughout playback.
- Monitor the stream’s video, audio, and connection. YouTube recommends ongoing quality checks rather than assuming a long stream remains healthy.
- Leave adequate disk space if you are recording locally; streaming and recording at once require the PC to handle both tasks.
Plan for the archive and audience settings
A 24-hour stream is not a reliable complete YouTube archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the full program matters, record a local copy and verify that it is being written successfully. Make sure there is enough storage for the recording; an external drive is optional if existing storage is insufficient.

Set the audience accurately
When creating the stream, set whether it is made for children according to the content and applicable requirements. YouTube disables features including live chat and personalized ads on made-for-kids livestreams. Monetization also depends on YouTube Partner Program eligibility; a livestream alone does not establish eligibility or guarantee revenue.
Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a livestream: Check that the channel is verified, the creator meets the age requirement, and the channel has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is your first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm that you selected the correct stream in YouTube Studio and copied its matching stream URL and key into the encoder. Keep the key private; if you think it has been exposed, replace it in Studio and update the encoder.
- The preview is blank, silent, or unstable: Verify the encoder’s source selection and audio routing, then inspect the Live Control Room preview before going live. Reduce the output demands if the PC cannot encode the chosen settings reliably, and test again.
- The stream buffers or drops: Check the actual upload connection and total stream bitrate. Preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom, and test network stability under the conditions in which the PC will operate.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Stop using the matched material unless you have the necessary rights. If it is licensed, contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel; a license by itself may not prevent interruption.
- The 24-hour broadcast is missing or incomplete in YouTube: YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as archives. Use a working local recording when a complete archive matters, and check available disk space and recording continuity.
