YouTube Studio can schedule a live broadcast, but it does not play a playlist of prerecorded videos as the live feed. You need two pieces working together: a scheduled YouTube broadcast and a playout source—local encoder software, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service—that sends the playlist to YouTube using your stream URL and stream key. Set both schedules to the same India Standard Time (IST), then test the complete path privately before relying on it.
How scheduling an always-on playlist works
Think of the broadcast and the playlist as separate parts of the setup. YouTube Studio creates the watchable event; the encoder or cloud playout service supplies its audio and video. Google’s API guide likewise describes a liveBroadcast as the event and a separate liveStream as the feed connected to it. As Google puts it, “A broadcast represents an event that can be watched on YouTube as it happens.” Google for Developers: YouTube Live Streaming API
Scheduling the broadcast alone will not make prerecorded videos play. Your chosen playout system must hold or access the files, play them in order, and send the resulting feed to YouTube. YouTube’s own live-streaming checklist recommends testing the complete setup as a private stream before going public. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder
Before you schedule
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Its checklist advises enabling Live at least 24 hours ahead and verifying your account. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Prepare the playlist files. Confirm the videos play correctly, have the intended order, and are available to your local encoder or uploaded to your cloud playout service.
- Choose the playout method. For local software, the computer, power and internet connection must remain available while it is streaming. For unattended operation without a home computer, choose a cloud service that explicitly supports playlist looping and scheduling.
- Check rights before broadcasting. Make sure you have the rights needed to stream every video and its audio. A private test helps verify the technical setup; it does not establish that you have permission to use the content.
Schedule the YouTube broadcast and playlist
- Open the scheduling controls. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream. Choose new settings or reuse previous settings.
- Set the event details. Enter the title, description, visibility and intended start time. A scheduled stream can be promoted, and viewers can set reminders, according to YouTube’s guidance. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Copy the connection details. If your encoder offers YouTube sign-in or selection, follow its YouTube connection flow. Otherwise, copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it.
- Build the playlist in the playout system. Add the prerecorded videos, put them in the desired order, and enable continuous playback or looping if the stream should repeat. YouTube Studio does not perform this playlist playback.
- Match the start time in both systems. Set the playout start to coincide with the scheduled broadcast. Check what timezone the playout scheduler uses and confirm the time is entered as IST (UTC+5:30); vendor interfaces differ, so do not assume a displayed local time means India time.
- Run a private end-to-end test. Start the playout and confirm the encoder feed appears in YouTube’s preview. Check picture, sound, transitions between videos, the scheduled start and the stream’s visibility before switching to a public event. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Plan the archive and stream lifecycle. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will be archived in full; plan separate event broadcasts or another archive workflow if retaining the full programme matters. | Approach | When it fits | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud playout | You want an uploaded playlist to run continuously on YouTube without keeping a computer at home online. | Check that your files fit the available storage and that your schedule matches the YouTube broadcast. StreamNeo includes 10 GB of storage per slot, pooled across active slots. |
| Local software encoder | You want a do-it-yourself setup with control over playback and encoding. | The source computer, power and upload connection must stay available. Test restart and reconnect behavior before depending on unattended operation. |
| Hardware encoder | You prefer a dedicated appliance workflow. | YouTube lists AJA HELO Plus with scheduled prerecorded media support. Verify current model availability and whether its features suit your workflow; dedicated hardware is not required if a computer or cloud service meets the need. YouTube: Live streaming encoders |
| Other cloud playlist services | You want cloud-hosted playback and are comparing providers. | Verify playlist limits, stream duration, timezone controls, reconnect behavior, file limits, image quality, account support and recurring price directly with the provider. Product capabilities and prices are vendor statements and can change. |

Common scheduling problems
- The scheduled event starts, but there is no video. Scheduling a broadcast does not start playlist playback. Check that the encoder or cloud playout is running and connected to the correct event.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed. Check that the stream URL and key were copied correctly and that the key belongs to the scheduled broadcast. Keep the key private.
- The playlist starts at the wrong time. Compare the YouTube event time with the playout scheduler’s timezone setting, then verify the playout time is IST rather than assuming the interface uses India time.
- The stream stops when nobody is at the computer. A local encoder depends on its computer, power and internet connection staying available. Test the setup’s restart and reconnect behavior, or use cloud playout if you need to avoid relying on a home machine.
- The stream archive is incomplete or missing after a long run. YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. For longer programming, plan separate broadcasts or another recording and archive workflow.
- A private test works, but the public stream is not ready. A private test is for checking the technical path. Recheck the intended event visibility and start time in YouTube Studio before the public broadcast.
Costs and practical checks
Local software may avoid a cloud-planning fee, but the source computer, electricity and reliable upload connection have to be available for the stream. Cloud playout shifts that dependency away from the home setup; compare the provider’s recurring cost alongside playlist size, allowed duration, recovery behavior, quality and timezone controls. For multiple channels or playlists, check how a provider defines a slot and what storage or account limits apply. No independent, topic-specific published statistic establishes audience size or typical uptime for always-on YouTube playlist streams in India, so do not use vendor activity or uptime claims as a substitute for your own test.
