PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo play music between videos in an OBS 24/7 stream, use a separate music or interstitial scene and switch to it between video scenes. For one repeating track, add an OBS Media Source and enable Loop; for a playlist, add a VLC Video Source. OBS does not automatically insert music between videos, so you must arrange the scenes and transitions yourself.
Choose how the music should play
| Setup | Best for | Controls and considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One audio file that repeats | Use Loop to replay the file and Restart playback when source becomes active to control what happens when its scene becomes active. OBS also provides a close-when-inactive control. |
| VLC Video Source | A playlist of music files | Use Loop Playlist or Shuffle Playlist. VLC must be installed; match its bitness to OBS (64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC). |
| Separate interstitial scene | Music only in the gaps between videos | Switch from a video scene to a music scene between clips. This is a scene-design approach, not an automatic OBS feature. |
| Music in the video scene | Music underneath video audio | Keep the music source active alongside the video and balance its volume against the video’s audio. Continuity across scene changes depends on source placement and visibility behavior. |
Neither the OBS playlist documentation nor its loop setting promises gapless transitions. Test the playlist at its end and loop point before relying on it unattended.
Set up one looping music file
- Open the scene where the music should play in OBS.
- In Sources, select + and add Media Source. Give it a clear name, such as “Interstitial music.”
- Choose the local audio file in the source properties. OBS Media Source supports common audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV, as well as common video formats.
- Enable Loop if the file should begin again when playback ends.
- Choose whether Restart playback when source becomes active should be enabled. Enable it if the track should start from the beginning each time the scene becomes active; otherwise, test the playback behavior you want when returning to the scene.
- Check the source’s inactive behavior and listen to a full playback cycle, including the point where the file repeats.
Set up a music playlist
- Install VLC before setting up the source. If your OBS installation is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC.
- In the scene where the playlist should play, select + in Sources and add VLC Video Source.
- Open the source properties and add the audio files in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the playlist, or Shuffle Playlist to randomize playback, according to your preference.
- Set the VLC source’s visibility behavior deliberately: it can stop and restart, pause and resume, or continue playing while its scene is hidden. The right choice depends on whether the playlist should resume where it left off or keep running through scene changes.
- Test the full playlist, its loop point, and any transitions to other scenes. Do not assume the change from one file to the next will be gapless.
Make music play only between videos
For clear interstitials, create one scene for video playback and another for music. Put the video source in the video scene and the music source in the interstitial scene. Switch scenes when a clip ends, then switch back when the interstitial is over. OBS supplies the sources and scene controls, but this sequence is your scene layout rather than a built-in “insert music between clips” function.
Decide what should happen when the music scene becomes active again. A Media Source can restart when activated; a VLC playlist has visibility behavior that determines whether it stops, pauses or continues while hidden. Choose and test the behavior that fits your sequence.

Keep music underneath the videos
If you want a soundtrack throughout the stream rather than only in the gaps, place the music source in the scene containing the video, or use a source arrangement that remains active across your scenes. Balance the music against the video audio so dialogue or documentary narration remains intelligible. Scene changes can affect playback depending on where the source lives and how it behaves when hidden, so test the actual scene collection and transitions rather than assuming the track will continue seamlessly.
Check music rights before going live
Use music licensed for both the live broadcast and any recording you retain. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; if detected content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A creator with a license may still need the rights holder to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruptions. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for having necessary rights, including music licensing rights. A track labeled “free” is not automatically clear of Content ID issues. Check the license itself, and for any paid music service confirm it explicitly permits livestreaming on the relevant platform and in the relevant territories, monetization if applicable, and use in retained recordings. YouTube’s tips to find safe music are a starting point; they do not establish that a track is suitable for every use.
Troubleshoot playback before leaving OBS unattended
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC and ensure it matches OBS bitness. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist stops when you switch scenes: Review the VLC source’s visibility behavior. Select pause/resume or continue-while-hidden behavior if that matches your intended playback; test the result.
- The music starts over on every return: Check whether the Media Source’s Restart playback when source becomes active setting is enabled, and choose the behavior you want.
- The music does not repeat: Confirm Loop is enabled for a single Media Source file or Loop Playlist for a VLC playlist.
- There is a pause between playlist files: OBS documents playlist playback but does not promise gapless transitions. Test the actual files and playback on your setup; do not count on a seamless handoff.
- The stream is interrupted after music is detected: Check YouTube’s copyright notice and the track’s license. If you have permission to use third-party material, ask the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is simply to keep uploaded videos live on a YouTube channel, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative to leaving an OBS computer running. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer, OBS installation or home connection needs to stay on. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera.
