To send VirtualDJ to YouTube Live, use VirtualDJ’s video broadcast mode: get a stream key in YouTube Studio, enter it under Settings > Broadcast in VirtualDJ, choose YouTube, then start the broadcast. Check YouTube’s preview and LIVE status before sharing the link. A VirtualDJ Internet Radio Server broadcast is a different mode; it is not the route for a YouTube video livestream.
Before you start: enable YouTube Live and get a stream key
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. If the channel has never streamed live, enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- In the Live Control Room, create a stream or select an existing one from the Stream tab. Copy its stream key and keep it private: it connects an encoder to your channel.
- Set the stream title and description in YouTube Studio. VirtualDJ’s older guide refers to YouTube’s live dashboard and “Encoder Setup”; the current YouTube workflow is through Studio and the Live Control Room.
Configure VirtualDJ for a YouTube video broadcast
- In VirtualDJ, open Settings > Broadcast.
- Select Video, choose YouTube as the destination, and paste the copied key into the Stream Key field.
- Press START BROADCAST. After a few seconds, check YouTube Studio for a preview and confirm that the stream shows LIVE before announcing it.
VirtualDJ’s direct video route is intended for broadcasting the computer’s video output to social platforms, including YouTube. The documented procedure does not require a separate hardware encoder. See the VirtualDJ YouTube broadcast guide and the VirtualDJ Broadcast manual.
Prepare and monitor the mix
Test the actual audio and motion
Before a public session, run a test using audio and video movement similar to what you intend to broadcast. Confirm that the mix reaches YouTube and watch the stream-health messages in the Live Control Room. YouTube recommends testing before going live and recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the stream connection into and through Google’s servers.
Audio and bandwidth guidance
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio. VirtualDJ’s YouTube guide gives approximate required upload speeds of 4–6 Mbps at 1080p, 2–4 Mbps at 720p, and about 1 Mbps at 360p. Those are approximate figures from VirtualDJ, not guarantees; a general speed-test result is not the same thing as YouTube’s recommended video bitrate for a particular resolution, frame rate, and codec. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for its current settings guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Route audio only when your setup needs it
VirtualDJ can use computer audio or a USB sound card and offers configurations such as speaker-only output, master plus headphones, and separate decks. Advanced audio settings let you adjust the source, sound card, and channels, and save audio profiles. For the standard direct YouTube setup, a separate interface is optional, not a prerequisite. Consider a USB audio interface for DJ streaming only if you need additional physical inputs or outputs, or a distinct headphone-cue path.
What “radio playlist” means in VirtualDJ
VirtualDJ’s Broadcast panel separates video broadcast to social platforms from computer-audio broadcasting, Internet Radio Server streaming, and podcast recording. Choose based on where listeners should watch or listen:

| Broadcast mode | Destination and audience experience | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|
| Video | A YouTube livestream page with video | Use this mode for the YouTube procedure above. |
| Computer audio | An audio listening link | This is not the YouTube video broadcast route. |
| Internet Radio Server | A hosted radio server, such as Icecast in OGG format or Shoutcast in MP3 format | You need connection details from the server host. VirtualDJ documents a Pro Infinity or Pro Monthly license requirement for radio-server broadcasting specifically. |
| Podcast | A podcast recording on VirtualDJ’s servers | This is distinct from a live YouTube stream. |
The available instructions establish how to select YouTube as the broadcast destination, but do not specify which VirtualDJ playlist feature, queue behavior, or automation setting a particular “radio playlist” uses. Set up or verify playlist playback separately in VirtualDJ rather than assuming that selecting YouTube enables a continuous-play or Automix behavior. The destination and playlist automation are separate questions.
Copyright and the replay after the stream
Stop the broadcast in VirtualDJ when the session is over, then check the result in YouTube Studio. VirtualDJ warns that the stopped stream is uploaded and analyzed; copyright review may block it, mute it, or prevent publication. Having permission to play a recording does not by itself establish that you have livestream or replay rights.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but that does not guarantee a replay will be published or remain available after copyright review. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance and VirtualDJ’s YouTube broadcast instructions.
Troubleshooting
- YouTube does not offer a preview: Confirm that YouTube Live is enabled, the selected YouTube stream is active in Studio, and the key was copied into VirtualDJ’s Stream Key field. If this is the channel’s first live stream, activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The preview appears but the stream is not marked LIVE: Check VirtualDJ’s broadcast state and the Live Control Room’s stream-health messages. Do not share the stream as live until Studio confirms LIVE.
- Viewers cannot hear the mix: Check VirtualDJ’s selected audio source and sound-card/channel configuration. Test the same routing before the next public session; use an interface only if the routing needs more physical outputs or a separate cue path.
- The stream stutters or reports health problems: Compare the available upload connection with the chosen resolution and frame rate, then test again with similar audio and motion. VirtualDJ’s upload figures are approximate, while YouTube’s bitrate recommendations are specific to resolution, frame rate, and codec.
- The replay is muted, blocked, or missing: Check YouTube Studio for the result of copyright analysis. A live broadcast does not guarantee that its recording will be published as a replay.
- You intended an audio radio station rather than YouTube video: Select Internet Radio Server only if you have a compatible host and its connection details. Its licensing requirement is separate from the documented YouTube video method.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is an always-on YouTube channel playing uploaded recordings, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option, not a way to broadcast a live VirtualDJ session or camera feed. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer, OBS, or home connection left on. It streams uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
