What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Record your screen with your computer’s built-in tool, save the video, then upload it through YouTube Studio. Windows and Mac have different recording controls; YouTube handles the upload and publishing, not the computer-screen recording itself.
Before you record
Decide whether you need the whole screen or only part of it, and whether the recording needs narration. Close unrelated windows and silence notifications if they might reveal private information. For a short, straightforward capture, start with your computer’s built-in recorder; use configurable software such as OBS if you need to select capture sources or configure audio devices.
Record your screen on Windows
- Open Snipping Tool. On Windows 11 and Windows 10, Microsoft also documents the shortcut Windows logo key + Shift + R to open screen recording controls: Microsoft’s Snipping Tool instructions.
- Select Record, then New.
- Drag to select the rectangular area you want to record.
- Start the recording, perform the actions you want to capture, then stop the recording when the clip is complete.
- Save the resulting video file somewhere you can find it for the upload.
The available controls can depend on your Windows version and installed Snipping Tool, so labels or behavior may vary slightly.
Record your screen on Mac
- Press Shift-Command-5 to open Screenshot.
- Choose Record Entire Screen or Record Selected Portion.
- Open Options if you need to change the recording settings, then start recording.
- Stop the recording when finished and save the video file.
Apple also documents QuickTime Player as a screen-recording option. Some apps do not allow their windows to be recorded; Apple gives Apple TV as an example, so do not assume protected video or every app window can be captured. See Apple’s screen-recording instructions.

Upload and publish the recording in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- At the top right, select Create, then Upload videos.
- Select the video file you saved from your screen recording.
- Enter or review the title and other video details.
- Choose the visibility setting: Private, Unlisted, or Public. You can also schedule publication if that option suits your upload.
- Save or publish the video, as appropriate for the visibility choice.
Uploading imports the file into YouTube; publishing makes it available to viewers according to its visibility setting. If you close the upload window before selecting visibility, YouTube says the video is saved as private. YouTube’s upload instructions say you can upload up to 15 videos at a time. Higher resolutions such as HD and 4K may take longer to process, and processing time varies with quality, duration, format, and traffic. Consult YouTube’s upload instructions for current details.
YouTube recommends a test upload if you want to learn the process before sharing a finished video; use privacy settings for the test. For computer screen capture, YouTube itself is not the recorder: “YouTube does not have a webcam feature to record videos on your computer.” See YouTube’s recording guidance.
