To record a podcast for YouTube, capture a video episode with clear microphone audio, edit it, upload it to YouTube, and add it to a podcast playlist in YouTube Studio. A phone camera, microphone, and headphones are enough to start; for remote interviews, use a recording workflow that can preserve separate tracks for editing.

Choose a recording setup that fits your show

Solo or in-person episodes

Record the host and any in-person guests together using a phone or camera, with a microphone close enough to capture clear speech. A simple setup is easier to operate and works well when everyone can share the same room. Riverside’s equipment guide describes a microphone, headphones, and camera as a basic kit, and notes that a phone can serve as the camera: Riverside’s video podcast guide.

Remote interviews

For guests in different locations, choose a remote recording workflow and check how it captures audio and video. Separate tracks can make it easier to adjust a guest’s audio or edit a pause without changing the host’s track. Riverside says its workflow records participants locally and captures separate audio and video tracks; that is a Riverside-specific feature description, not a guarantee about every recording service: Riverside’s explanation of local recording.

Prepare the room, camera, and audio

Make the setting quiet and well lit

Choose a room with minimal background noise. Put available light in front of the host rather than relying only on light behind them, and frame the shot so the speaker is clearly visible. Positioning the camera near eye level can make a seated conversation feel more natural. These are practical setup recommendations, not measured requirements for a particular room or lighting level.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Start with essential equipment

  • Camera: A smartphone camera is a reasonable starting point; a dedicated camera is optional.
  • Microphone: Use a microphone that suits your setup and place it near the speaker. Riverside’s guide names the Samson Q2U USB/XLR microphone as one affordable example, not as an independently tested winner: Riverside’s equipment examples.
  • Headphones: Wear them while recording to monitor sound and reduce the chance of audio feedback. Riverside names Audio-Technica ATH-M40x closed-back headphones as an example.

A microphone arm or stand, pop filter, and clamp-mounted LED light are optional accessories. Add them only if they solve a real problem, such as awkward microphone placement or insufficient room light.

Check devices before the full recording

Select the intended camera and microphone in your recording app, confirm that the microphone is receiving a signal, and make a short test recording. Play it back with headphones: check that speech is intelligible, the picture is framed as intended, and there is no obvious room noise or distortion. If a remote guest is joining, ask them to check their own camera and microphone before you begin.

Record the episode

For a solo or in-person show

  1. Set the camera in its final position and make sure the frame includes everyone who should appear.
  2. Place the microphone close to the speaker, then confirm the selected microphone and camera in the recording app.
  3. Record and review a brief test. Correct any device, framing, or sound problems before starting the full episode.
  4. Start the episode recording, pause only when needed, and stop after the conversation is complete.

For a remote interview in Riverside

  1. Create a Riverside studio and open its guest lobby.
  2. Check the selected camera and microphone before inviting or admitting the guest.
  3. Send the guest the studio link and allow time for both participants to verify their devices.
  4. Start recording when everyone is ready, then stop the session when the interview is finished.

Riverside documents this studio, device-check, guest-invitation, and recording flow in its own guide: Riverside’s recording workflow. Menu labels and features may change, so follow the current controls shown in the service.

Edit and publish a video podcast on YouTube

Export a video episode

Edit the recording into the episode you intend viewers to watch. If your capture produced separate tracks, use them to adjust speakers individually where needed. Export a video file for upload; YouTube’s podcast format is video-based, so an MP3 alone cannot be added as a podcast episode.

Create or designate the podcast playlist

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s podcast creation guidance and follow the current steps to create a podcast or designate an existing playlist as one.
  2. Upload the finished video episode to YouTube, or add an eligible existing video to the podcast playlist.
  3. Save the playlist and check that the episode appears in it as intended.

YouTube Help defines a podcast show as a playlist and its episodes as videos. YouTube also lists potential discovery and YouTube Music features, but availability is eligibility-based: some playlists, including content the creator does not own, may not qualify, and copyright issues can affect eligibility. Do not assume that every playlist will receive those features; check YouTube’s current podcast eligibility guidance.

Common recording problems and fixes

  • The video has no sound: Check that the intended microphone was selected and enabled before recording; make another short test and play it back.
  • The wrong camera or microphone is active: Reopen the recording app’s device controls, select the intended devices, and verify them with a test recording or guest check.
  • Speech is hard to hear: Move the microphone closer to the speaker and reduce avoidable background noise. Review the test with headphones before recording the full episode.
  • The picture is dark or poorly framed: Adjust the camera framing and add or reposition light so the speaker is clearly visible.
  • A remote guest is missing or not ready: Confirm they have the correct session link, then check their camera and microphone in the lobby before starting.
  • You cannot add an MP3 as a podcast episode: Export the episode as a video and add that video to the podcast playlist; YouTube’s podcast format uses video episodes.
  • A podcast playlist does not receive a discovery feature: Review YouTube’s eligibility rules. Ownership and copyright can affect eligibility, and creating a podcast playlist does not guarantee every listed feature.

Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
