To play prerecorded lectures in sequence as one continuous YouTube Live broadcast, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source: add the lecture files in order, enable Loop Playlist if they should start over after the final lecture, then send OBS to a YouTube Live event using its stream URL and key. This is an encoder playlist, not a YouTube watch-page playlist. The same global YouTube setup applies in India; the cited guidance does not identify a separate India-only workflow.

What “continuous YouTube Live playlist” means

OBS plays local lecture recordings and sends the resulting picture and sound to YouTube as one live feed. Viewers watch a live event; they are not watching a YouTube playlist page that automatically becomes a live broadcast. YouTube also uses “playlist” in its HLS documentation for transport segments, which is a different technical meaning and not the collection of lectures you are preparing.

This workflow is for files accessible to the computer running OBS. The documented VLC Video source does not establish a way to stream videos hosted only on YouTube, nor does it automatically change scene layouts for each lecture.

Check eligibility and permissions first

Confirm the channel can go live

YouTube’s global eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the intended session. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup guide.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Clear rights for the complete recording

Make sure you have permission to broadcast each lecture and all embedded material, including slides, photographs, music, film clips, and guest contributions. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match may interrupt or terminate a stream. Even when you have a licence, a rights holder may need to allowlist your channel for Content ID. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and YouTube’s Terms of Service. Institutions and educators in India should also confirm that their permissions comply with applicable laws and territorial limits.

Prepare the lecture files and OBS playlist

  1. Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. Match the architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Install or update both before building the scene.
  2. Arrange the files. Put the recordings in the intended course order and ensure the streaming computer can access them for the full broadcast. Keep the files in a stable location rather than moving them after setup.
  3. Add the playlist source. In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene and add the lecture files to its media list. Arrange them in order. Leave shuffle off when students should see the lectures sequentially.
  4. Choose whether to repeat. Enable Loop Playlist if playback should restart with the first lecture after the last. OBS documentation indicates this control defaults to On; verify the setting instead of relying on the default. If the series should finish rather than restart, turn it off.
  5. Check the scene and sound. Set the OBS canvas and output to suit the recordings, confirm that the video fits the frame, and listen for clear audio at a sensible level. Play through the source and check how file changes look and sound. Differently encoded recordings may not transition seamlessly; test the actual sequence rather than assuming they will.

The VLC Video source handles a playlist of multiple files. OBS’s standard Media Source is for one local file and has its own single-file loop control; it is not a substitute when you need an ordered multi-lecture list.

Create the YouTube event and connect OBS

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a new live event or choose an existing stream. Scheduling is optional, but it gives viewers a watch page and a chance to set a reminder.
  2. Copy the encoder details. Get the stream URL and stream key for that event, then enter them in OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it. YouTube’s scheduling guidance and encoder guide explain the event and connection steps.
  3. Start OBS and inspect the preview. Start the encoder early enough to check that Live Control Room receives the expected video and audio. Confirm that the event’s visibility is set to public, unlisted, or private as intended.
  4. Check the viewer experience. Open the watch page on a phone or another device, verify playback and sound, then monitor Live Control Room’s stream health during the broadcast. If you also make a local recording, check that it is recording to a drive with enough free space.

For ordinary local lecture playlists, use the conventional encoder workflow above rather than YouTube’s HLS ingestion instructions. HLS is a distinct protocol choice with codec and segment constraints; YouTube notes that “HLS has higher latency because it sends segments of video, instead of a continuous stream like RTMP.” Use it only if your encoder specifically supports and requires those HLS capabilities. See YouTube’s HLS setup guide.

Plan for a long broadcast and possible interruptions

  • Keep the local setup running. The computer must remain powered on, OBS must keep running, and the internet connection must remain available. YouTube recommends reliable connectivity, sufficient outbound upload capacity with headroom, advance setup, testing, and monitoring. Its documentation does not promise uninterrupted operation or a particular uptime.
  • Have a recovery plan. Decide who will notice a stopped encoder or connection drop and how they will restart the broadcast. Test the computer, power, and network arrangement for the intended duration; do not assume a local setup will recover automatically.
  • Understand the archive limit. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not count on a longer continuous broadcast being archived in full; make a separate recording if you need a dependable copy of the complete lecture run. Details are in the encoder guide.

Troubleshooting the playlist before and during the stream

What you see Likely cause What to do
VLC Video is missing or will not load VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. Install VLC and ensure 64-bit OBS is paired with 64-bit VLC. Reopen OBS and test the source.
The wrong lecture plays or the sequence is shuffled The source list is out of order or shuffle is enabled. Reorder the media list and turn shuffle off, then test from the first item.
The playlist ends instead of starting over Loop Playlist is off. Enable Loop Playlist and verify the behavior by testing through the end of the list.
YouTube does not receive the OBS feed The encoder is not started, or the URL/key was entered incorrectly or belongs to a different event. Compare OBS’s encoder details with the selected event in Live Control Room. Keep the key private, and replace it if it may have been exposed.
Viewers report buffering or the stream health is poor The network may lack stable outbound capacity or headroom. Test the connection in advance, reduce competing network traffic, and monitor stream health. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover preparation and connectivity.
The live broadcast is interrupted after a copyright match A lecture asset or embedded third-party material may be detected, or a licensed channel may not be allowlisted. Review the matched material and your permissions; arrange any required allowlisting with the rights holder before retrying.

Or let it run in the cloud

If keeping a streaming computer and home connection available for the whole lecture run is impractical, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud plays the uploaded videos, so nothing has to stay on at home. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed.
