How to Prepare a Video Playlist for YouTube Live with Adobe Media Encoder

Adobe Media Encoder can prepare video files, but the playlist playback and live transmission require a separately verified workflow. Here’s how to prepare clips and connect an encoder to YouTube Live.

Adobe Media Encoder can be used to prepare individual video files, but the available documentation does not establish that it can assemble a playlist, loop it, or send it as a live YouTube broadcast. Treat this as two jobs: export compatible clips in Media Encoder, then use a separately verified playback and live-encoding workflow to play them in order and send the feed to YouTube. YouTube requires an encoder connected with your stream URL and stream key.

What Adobe Media Encoder does—and what it does not establish

For this workflow, Media Encoder is the file-preparation stage. The current Adobe-specific steps, export presets, playlist support, and direct live-streaming capability are not established here, so do not assume a particular Adobe menu, preset, or feature will produce a continuous YouTube Live broadcast.

A separate live-playback encoder must be able to play the clips in the intended order, keep the feed continuous, and transmit to YouTube. OBS documentation confirms that media files can be added to a scene, but that alone does not establish sequential playlist playback, looping, or unattended operation. Verify those requirements in the chosen playback tool before relying on it for a broadcast.

Prepare the video files

  1. Choose the source clips and order. Make a list of the videos in the sequence you want viewers to see. Confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to broadcast each video, including its music and other included material.
  2. Use Media Encoder only for file conversion or export if needed. Select export settings appropriate for your source and intended output. Because Adobe’s current interface and recommended settings were not verified here, consult the documentation for your installed Media Encoder version rather than relying on assumed menu names or a guessed preset.
  3. Check the resulting files. Play each exported clip from beginning to end. Confirm that the picture and audio work, note each clip’s resolution and frame rate, and make sure the playback tool you plan to use accepts the file. Keep the clips’ output characteristics compatible with the live feed you intend to send.

Choose and verify the playlist playback workflow

Before configuring YouTube, establish that the playback/live-encoding tool can do all of the following for your specific setup:

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Play every intended file in the right order, without gaps or an unexpected stop.
  • Loop the sequence if the broadcast needs to repeat it.
  • Send one continuous live feed to YouTube using its stream URL and key.
  • Output a codec, frame rate, keyframe interval, and bitrate compatible with YouTube’s recommendations.
  • Recover or alert you if playback or transmission stops, and indicate whether the workflow needs an operator present.

Do not infer unattended playlist playback from the fact that a tool can place a media file in a scene. Test the complete sequence—including the transition from the final clip back to the first, if looping—before scheduling a public event.

Create or schedule the YouTube stream

  1. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. YouTube allows a scheduled stream to be public, private, or unlisted.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into the live encoder you selected. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private; if it is exposed, reset it in the live-stream settings and replace it in the encoder.
  3. For a scheduled stream, wait for the encoder’s feed to appear in the Live Control Room preview. When you are ready to broadcast, use YouTube’s Go live control for the scheduled stream.

You need a verified YouTube channel and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, according to YouTube’s live-streaming tips. Check channel eligibility before building a production around a scheduled event.

Set encoder output to YouTube’s recommendations

YouTube Help’s “Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions” page, accessed 2026-10-03, lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends RTMPS for a secure connection. Match your chosen output to the capabilities of your playback encoder and the clips; the bitrate recommendation depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate.

Setting YouTube guidance
H.264 at 1080p/30fps 10 Mbps recommended bitrate
H.264 at 1080p/60fps 17 Mbps recommended bitrate
Keyframe interval 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds
Frame rate Up to 60 fps
Rate control CBR
Connection RTMPS recommended

These are YouTube recommendations, not universal requirements for every codec and output size. Use YouTube’s current settings page to choose the bitrate for any combination other than the two H.264 examples above; do not transfer those figures to a different codec or resolution as if they were equivalent.

Test, start, and monitor the broadcast

  1. Set up the encoder at least two hours before the planned livestream, as YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend.
  2. Run an appropriate test stream, such as an unlisted stream when that fits your use, and check the Live Control Room preview before going public. YouTube’s settings guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
  3. Confirm that audio is present and at a usable level, the picture is correct, and the playlist advances as intended. Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event, following YouTube’s recommendation, so you can inspect the preview and resolve connection problems before the start time.
  4. Monitor audio, video, and stream health while live. A successful initial preview does not prove that a long playlist will continue unattended.
  5. At the end, stop the broadcast using YouTube’s scheduled-stream controls, then stop the sending encoder after the event has ended on YouTube. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Likely check What to do
No feed appears in Live Control Room Stream URL, key, and encoder connection Confirm the URL and key belong to the intended stream and were copied correctly. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
YouTube preview is present but the broadcast is not live Scheduled-stream state For a scheduled stream, check the preview and use YouTube’s Go live control when ready.
Picture or audio is missing or incorrect Exported clip and encoder output Play the exported file locally, then check the encoder’s selected video and audio inputs and output settings.
The stream starts but the playlist stops or does not repeat Playback workflow Test ordering, end-of-list behavior, and looping in the playback tool itself. Adding a media file to a scene does not by itself verify playlist sequencing or unattended looping.
Stream health is poor or the feed disconnects Output settings and connection Check codec, resolution, frame rate, CBR, keyframe interval, and the bitrate recommendation for that exact output. Use RTMPS where supported and monitor the preview and stream health.
