Yes. You can put 720p and 1080p videos in the same YouTube playlist without converting them to a common resolution. Upload the files, add the videos to a playlist, and arrange their order; YouTube adjusts playback to each individual video and the viewer’s conditions. A playlist plays videos in sequence—it does not turn them into one continuous live broadcast.
Can I put 720p and 1080p videos in the same playlist?
Yes. A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos, and its videos can have different resolutions. For 16:9 footage, 720p is 1280×720 pixels and 1080p is 1920×1080 pixels. YouTube’s player adapts to each video rather than requiring one fixed resolution for the whole playlist. YouTube Help describes how video resolution and aspect ratio work.
Playback quality is determined for each video. It can vary with the viewer’s connection, player or screen size, browser, and the quality of the uploaded source. Viewers can use Settings → Quality in the player to choose a quality when that option is available; some formats may not be available on every device or browser. How to upload the files and create the playlist

Upload each video
In YouTube Studio, upload the local files individually. During upload, you can add a video to an existing playlist or create a new one. YouTube processes the upload for playback across devices and networks. See YouTube’s upload instructions.

Create a playlist in YouTube Studio
In Studio, select Create → New playlist. Enter a title and description, choose the playlist’s visibility and arrangement, add videos, then create it. You can add videos later from search, a URL, or your library. The labels may vary if YouTube updates its interface; YouTube’s playlist instructions for Studio provide the current workflow.

Or create it from a video’s watch page
Open one of your videos, select More → Save → Create new playlist, choose visibility, and create the playlist. Use Save on other videos to add them. The same playlist can contain your 720p and 1080p uploads. See YouTube’s instructions for creating and managing playlists.

Arrange the sequence
Open the playlist and drag videos into the order you want. This changes the playback sequence, not the resolution or quality of any video. You can revise the order later. See YouTube Help on playlist ordering.

Wait for higher-resolution processing
New uploads may initially be available only in low quality while YouTube processes higher resolutions. 1080p may take several hours to appear, depending on the upload. If a video looks soft immediately after upload, check its available quality again later. YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance covers processing delays.

Do I need to convert all the files to the same resolution first?
No. Playlist membership does not require matching resolutions. Keep each video at its intended resolution unless you have a separate editing or delivery reason to change it. Converting a 720p source to 1080p does not add source detail, and making every file the same resolution is not a prerequisite for a playlist.
If you are preparing exports for upload, YouTube’s currently displayed recommendations for SDR video at standard frame rates (24, 25, or 30 fps) are 5 Mbps for 720p and 8 Mbps for 1080p. These are upload-encoding recommendations, not requirements for creating or playing a playlist; the recommendations differ for high-frame-rate footage. YouTube advises preserving the frame rate at which the content was recorded. See YouTube’s encoding settings.

What “playlist stream” means—and what it does not
If you mean videos playing one after another in a playlist, the steps above are all you need. Playlist playback is not a live broadcast: creating a playlist does not send your local files as one continuous live stream, and YouTube’s playlist and playback guidance does not promise uninterrupted playback or a control that forces every video in the playlist to one quality.
If you mean one continuous YouTube Live broadcast assembled from local files, that is a separate live-encoder workflow. Do not assume a playlist will create it. The official playlist and playback instructions cited here do not establish a specific setup for turning mixed-resolution files into a continuous live broadcast.
