A 24/7 broadcast is a supported YouTube pattern, but it is not an uptime guarantee: your computer, network, encoder, stream health, and music rights still need attention.
What you need before you start
- Rights-cleared media: permission for each sound recording, composition and lyrics, and visual element you plan to use.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled: use YouTube Studio to create or schedule a live event and obtain its current ingestion URL and stream key.
- FFmpeg: an installed build that supports your chosen input and output codecs. Check the documentation for your installed version; options and codec support can differ.
- A computer and network connection capable of encoding and uploading continuously: the reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish a minimum computer specification or guarantee that any local or remote setup will stay online.
- A monitoring and recovery plan: someone or something must detect a failed encoder, network problem, YouTube warning, or copyright interruption and respond.
Decide whether the stream needs a still image, a slideshow, or other video. Even a music-led stream must send a valid audio/video feed if that is the output you configure. Test the actual files and transitions before relying on a long broadcast.
Clear the rights for every song and visual
Do not assume a bhajan, traditional melody, downloaded track, or recording already available on YouTube is free to rebroadcast. A composition and its lyrics can have different rights from a particular performance or sound recording; visuals can carry their own rights as well. Confirm that you have permission for the specific material and intended use.
YouTube says that “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams explains that a match may lead to a placeholder image, warning, interruption, or termination. If you have a license for material whose rightsholder uses Content ID, ask that rightsholder to add your channel to its allowlist; a license alone does not ensure that the live broadcast will avoid interruption. If you archive the broadcast, Content ID claims can be made after it ends.

Create the YouTube live event and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the live control room. Create or schedule the live event you intend to use.
- In the event’s stream settings, retrieve the current ingestion URL and stream key. Use the endpoint YouTube provides; do not assume an old endpoint or key is still appropriate.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel. Do not publish it in a script, screenshot, or command that you share.
- Keep the event and feed relationship straight. YouTube models a broadcast event and a stream feed as separate resources, and its API documentation describes a 24/7 feed that can continue while separate broadcast events are started and completed. Choose FFmpeg output settings for YouTube
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance rather than copying a bitrate from an unrelated tutorial. For RTMP/RTMPS ingest, YouTube currently lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Its advanced audio guidance recommends 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps for stereo. Bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so select the matching recommendation in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended secure RTMP variant for ordinary low-latency live content. The endpoint must be valid, use TLS over port 443, and use the server hostname for SNI authentication. Follow the details in Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide. Confirm that your installed FFmpeg build can produce the selected codecs and connect to the endpoint in the required way; YouTube’s supported formats do not guarantee support in every FFmpeg build.
Balance picture quality and upload capacity
Choose resolution and frame rate for the visuals you are actually sending. A still image accompanying music may not need the same picture settings as moving footage, but the output must still be a valid continuous feed. Use YouTube’s bitrate guidance for the chosen codec and output mode, and leave network headroom rather than planning to consume all available upload capacity. Test sustained delivery and inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages before treating the setup as ready.

Build a loop from your own files
The exact FFmpeg input and loop options depend on whether you have one file, multiple tracks, a playlist, or a separate visual source, and on your installed FFmpeg version. Consult that version’s documentation and verify that each input repeats as intended. Do not assume a loop will be gapless, that separate audio and video inputs remain synchronized, or that a process will reconnect automatically. Listen and watch across several transitions in a test broadcast.

- Start with a private or unlisted test broadcast if those choices are available for your event.
- Launch your FFmpeg process using the current event’s ingestion URL and protected stream key, with the output codecs and settings you selected.
- Open the Live Control Room preview and check that YouTube receives both audio and video. Review its stream-health messages while the test runs.
- Listen through a track transition and inspect any visual changes. Check for silence, unexpected gaps, clipping, frozen or missing video, and synchronization problems.
- Keep the test running long enough to expose problems that only appear after startup, then confirm that the operator knows how to stop, inspect, and restart the encoder safely.
YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and video and monitoring stream health. It does not establish that one FFmpeg process, computer, or network will remain up indefinitely.

Operate the stream and recover from interruptions
For an around-the-clock channel, monitor the encoder host, network connection, FFmpeg process, YouTube stream-health messages, and copyright alerts. Define who checks them and what they do if the feed stops. A YouTube broadcast/stream arrangement can support continuous feeds, but the API pattern does not restart a crashed local process, restore a broken internet connection, or prevent a rights-related interruption.
- If YouTube receives no feed: check whether FFmpeg is still running, whether the host has power and network access, and whether the event’s current ingestion URL and stream key are configured correctly.
- If the preview has no sound or picture: verify the relevant input, output mapping, and codec support in your FFmpeg build; then check the Live Control Room diagnostics.
- If playback stops at a track boundary: investigate the input-loop or playlist behavior for your installed FFmpeg version, and test the transition again before restarting a long broadcast.
- If YouTube warns about third-party content or interrupts the stream: review the alert and the rights for the matching recording or visual. A license may not prevent interruption unless the rightsholder has allowlisted your channel through Content ID.
- If the encoder exits or the network drops: inspect the process and host logs, restore the underlying service, and restart according to a tested recovery procedure. Do not assume FFmpeg automatically reconnects unless you have verified that behavior in your exact configuration.
Use a suitable existing computer if it can encode and upload your chosen output continuously. A dedicated or remote host is an operational choice, not a YouTube requirement established by its encoder guidance. The available sources do not establish a minimum specification, comparative host reliability, or provider-specific costs.

What this FFmpeg approach does and does not guarantee
FFmpeg gives you control over encoding and sending the feed, but the result depends on your chosen files, build, settings, host, network, YouTube event, and rights status. YouTube’s encoder guidance is platform advice, not a guarantee that a particular configuration is compatible or continuously available. Recheck YouTube’s current settings and copyright help before launch, and consult documentation for your own FFmpeg version when choosing looping or recovery options.
