To loop multiple videos on a YouTube Live stream with OBS, add them to one VLC Video Source in the order you want, enable Loop Playlist, and connect OBS to your YouTube Live broadcast separately. Install VLC first; if you use 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies 64-bit VLC.
Use a VLC Video Source for a playlist
OBS’s built-in Media Source has a Loop option for replaying one file. For multiple files in sequence, use VLC Video Source, which plays media as a playlist and can restart it when the list ends. See the OBS VLC Video Source documentation for the source requirements and options.
| OBS source | Files | Playback | Dependency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One file | Replay the file with its Loop option | Built into OBS |
| VLC Video Source | Multiple files | Playlist; can loop after the final item | VLC must be installed |
Set up the playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. Match its architecture to OBS. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Open the scene you will stream. In OBS, add a source and choose VLC Video Source. Give the source a recognizable name.
- Add your files. Add the intended media files to the playlist and arrange them in the order you want them to play.
- Enable looping. Turn on Loop Playlist so playback returns to the first item after the last one. Leave shuffle off if you need a predictable sequence.
- Set visibility behavior. Choose whether playback stops and restarts, pauses and resumes, or continues while the source is hidden. The right choice depends on how you use scenes; this setting controls source playback when hidden or shown, not whether YouTube is broadcasting.
- Place and size the source. Ensure it is visible in the scene and fits the stream layout.
- Check playback before going live. Confirm in OBS that the source appears and the playlist plays as expected before starting the broadcast.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live separately
The playlist controls media playback inside OBS; it does not create or configure the YouTube broadcast. You need a configured YouTube Live broadcast and an encoder connection from OBS. YouTube’s API describes the live broadcast and the audio-video stream as separate resources; its Live Streaming API documentation explains that distinction. Configure the destination and connection using the current YouTube and OBS workflows rather than expecting the playlist source to set up the event.
YouTube’s HLS ingestion is a separate encoder setup, not a prerequisite for this basic playlist method. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP and documents specific HLS encoder settings. Unless you have a reason to use HLS, do not change ingestion protocols just to loop a playlist; see YouTube’s live encoder settings.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check rights before streaming documentary footage
OBS will play the files you supply; adding them to a playlist does not grant permission to rebroadcast them. Confirm you have the necessary rights for every video, music track, image, and other included material, and follow YouTube’s applicable copyright and platform rules. A technically successful loop is not evidence that the content is authorized.
Troubleshoot common problems
- VLC Video Source is missing: Make sure VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Only one video repeats: Check whether you added a Media Source and enabled its single-file Loop option. Use VLC Video Source for a multi-file playlist.
- The playlist order changes unexpectedly: Turn off shuffle and verify the item order in the VLC Video Source.
- Playback pauses or restarts when changing scenes: Review the source’s Visibility Behaviour and choose stop/restart, pause/resume, or continue playing while hidden according to the intended scene behavior.
- The playlist works in OBS but the YouTube stream is not live: Treat broadcast setup as a separate issue. Check the configured YouTube Live broadcast and the OBS encoder connection; playlist looping alone does not connect to YouTube.
- You want to edit the playlist during a live stream: Do not assume that adding or removing items preserves the current playback position or avoids interruption. Arrange and test the playlist before going live when continuity matters.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that needs uploaded videos to keep looping without leaving OBS or a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs at the quality you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Start the free day at StreamNeo registration.
