To loop several videos in vMix while streaming to YouTube, add them to a List input, leave Auto Next enabled, turn on Loop, put the List on the main Program output, then connect vMix to YouTube Live with the stream’s server URL and stream key. For scheduled streams, you must also click Go live in YouTube Live Control Room after the encoder preview appears.
Choose List or PlayList
Use a List when several video files should behave as one source and play in straightforward sequence. Use a PlayList when clips are separate vMix inputs and you need per-item controls such as start position, duration, or transition.

The steps below use List, the simpler choice when the clips are one continuous sequence. The feature names and help pages cited here span vMix Help 26 and Help 28; if your installed version places a control differently, consult the help for that version.
Create and configure the looping List
- Add a List input. In vMix, add a List input and open its editing window. Add the video files you want to play, or drag them into the List window. Arrange the order and make sure each intended item is enabled; disabled entries are skipped. See the vMix List guide.
- Set sequential playback. Leave Auto Next enabled so vMix advances automatically from one item to the next. It is enabled by default.
- Enable Loop. Toggle Loop on the List input. At the end of the last item, the List starts again from the beginning. Do not select Randomise if you need the same order on every pass.
- Put the List on Program. Bring the List input to vMix’s main Program output. vMix identifies Output 1 as the primary output and the default source for Streaming and Recording. Check the vMix Outputs guide if your output configuration has been changed.
Connect vMix to YouTube Live
- Create or select the stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create a stream, or select the scheduled stream you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the Live Control Room workflow.
- Enter the stream connection details in vMix. In vMix’s streaming settings, choose the YouTube option if it is available. Otherwise, enter the YouTube Live server URL and the stream key shown for that stream. Treat the key as private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Start the vMix encoder. Confirm that the List is on Program, then start streaming in vMix. For a scheduled broadcast, sending the encoder signal and starting the public YouTube broadcast are separate actions. Wait until Live Control Room shows the incoming preview, then click Go live.
- Check playback and sound. Watch the vMix Program output and YouTube preview long enough to confirm that clips advance and the intended audio is present. This catches a wrong output source or a silent file before you rely on the loop.
Check YouTube eligibility before the first broadcast
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions during the past 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the planned broadcast rather than waiting until setup is complete. Looping a file does not grant permission to broadcast it. Use video and audio you own or are licensed to use, and check YouTube’s copyright rules and channel policies before streaming. A technical loop is also not a guarantee that a channel will comply with YouTube’s policies on repetitive or reused material; the rights and context of the content still matter.
Troubleshoot common failures
- The List stops after the final clip: check that Loop is enabled on the List input. If you chose PlayList instead, enable that feature’s own Loop control; the settings are separate. See the List guide and PlayList guide.
- A clip is skipped: check that the List entry is enabled and that the intended order is correct. Disabled entries are skipped. Turn off Randomise if you want a fixed sequence. See the List guide.
- YouTube receives no video: confirm the List is actually on the main Program output, then verify the server URL and stream key in vMix. See the vMix output documentation and YouTube encoder instructions.
- The YouTube preview appears but the scheduled broadcast is not public: in Live Control Room, wait for the encoder preview and select Go live. Starting the encoder alone does not start the scheduled public broadcast.
- Live streaming is unavailable on a new channel: verify the channel and check for current restrictions. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours according to YouTube’s help page.
Know what the loop does—and does not do
List and PlayList repeat media; they do not by themselves schedule content to start at a particular time of day. vMix’s knowledge base says vMix does not provide time-of-day scheduling, though List and PlayList can provide basic continuous playback when clock-time scheduling is not needed. A loop also does not establish guaranteed recovery from a computer, network, encoder, or YouTube failure.
