Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo loop one prerecorded video in OBS, add it to your scene as a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop in its properties. Connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, check the incoming preview, then go live. The loop setting restarts the file when playback ends; it does not promise a gapless join.
Choose the right OBS source
| Source | Best for | Repeat behavior | Extra requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One local video file | Enable Loop to restart the file when playback completes. | No VLC dependency. |
| VLC Video | A playlist of files | Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the playlist. | VLC must be installed. Match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
For a single video, Media Source is the direct option. OBS documents support for common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM. The source documentation describes restarting playback, but does not guarantee a seamless transition at the repeat point; that depends on the media and playback behavior. OBS Media Sources documentation
Set up the video loop in OBS
- Open the scene you intend to stream. In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and choose the video file on your computer.
- In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. This makes the file start again after playback completes.
- Consider Restart playback when source becomes active separately. OBS describes this as restarting playback when the source becomes visible in the current scene. If you switch scenes and return, this setting can affect where playback starts.
- Confirm the video appears in the preview and that its audio is present at the intended level. Play through the end and repeat point in a test before relying on the loop for a broadcast.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder stream and open its Live Control Room settings.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding streaming settings in OBS. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in screenshots or share it publicly. YouTube Help: stream with an encoder
- Start streaming from OBS. For a scheduled event, wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room, verify picture and sound, and select Go live when ready.
- During the broadcast, monitor the picture and audio. YouTube recommends testing in advance and keeping upload capacity with 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate. YouTube Help: troubleshoot live stream issues
Check YouTube eligibility and archive limits
YouTube requires channel verification for livestreaming and says the channel must not have livestreaming restrictions from the preceding 90 days. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day of the event. YouTube says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume an exceptionally long continuous broadcast will be archived in full. Keep the content eligible to stream
Using a prerecorded video does not remove YouTube’s copyright or livestream rules. Stream only material you own or have permission to use, including music and footage, and check that the channel is eligible before scheduling. A loop setting controls playback; it does not grant rights to the video or guarantee that YouTube will keep a stream available.

Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
- The video stops at the end: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled on the source actually used in the live scene.
- The video restarts after changing scenes: Check Restart playback when source becomes active; OBS may restart playback when the source becomes visible again.
- A playlist will not repeat: Use VLC Video with Loop Playlist, and confirm VLC is installed with the same architecture as OBS.
- YouTube receives no picture or sound: Check that OBS is streaming to the intended YouTube stream URL and key, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and verify the video and audio in OBS before selecting Go live.
- The stream is unstable: Test the connection and keep the upload headroom YouTube recommends—20% above total stream bitrate. If you change bitrate, account for the combined output rather than only one video component.
- Livestreaming is unavailable: Check channel verification, recent livestream restrictions, and whether first-time activation is still processing; YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours.
Or let it run in the cloud
OBS keeps the loop on the computer running OBS; StreamNeo instead plays uploaded videos from the cloud for YouTube, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
