How to Listen to Podcasts on a Samsung Galaxy Phone, Tablet, or Watch

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can listen to podcasts on a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet with an Android app such as YouTube Music, Spotify, or Amazon Music. Install an app from the Google Play Store or Galaxy Store, find a show, open an episode, and tap Play. You do not need a Samsung-branded podcast app, and you can use Bluetooth headphones, a compatible car system, or a supported Galaxy Watch for listening.

Start listening in five steps

  1. Open the Google Play Store or, on some devices, the Galaxy Store.
  2. Search for YouTube Music, Spotify, or Amazon Music. Check that the publisher is the expected company, then tap Install if the app is not already on your device.
  3. Open the app and sign in if prompted. Search for a show by its title, host, or subject.
  4. Choose the correct show, then select an episode.
  5. Tap Play. Follow or save the show if you want it to be easier to find again.

These steps apply broadly to recent Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, but app availability, menus, and features can vary by country, device, Android or One UI version, app version, and account. Most apps include shows from many publishers, so a separate app for each show is usually unnecessary. Some programs are exclusive to one service, and some are offered as both audio and video.

Choose an app that fits how you listen

Option A good starting point if you… What to know
YouTube Music Already use Google services, want podcasts alongside YouTube content, or use Android Auto or Wear OS. Google documents podcast listening on Android, Android Auto, and compatible Wear OS watches. Availability and features can vary by country and account; Premium does not necessarily remove podcast ads.
Spotify Want music and podcasts in one familiar app and an established offline-listening workflow. Spotify says free users can download podcasts, while music downloads require Premium. Downloads have account and device rules, and podcast ads or sponsorships may remain.
Amazon Music Already use Amazon services or want music and podcasts in that ecosystem. Catalog, plan benefits, and offers depend on territory, device, and account. Samsung announced a Galaxy Store rollout and limited-time offer for eligible new subscribers; it is not a universal benefit.
Dedicated podcast app Want more control over RSS feeds, filters, playback rules, or importing and exporting subscriptions. Features, setup, and pricing depend on the app. Check its current listing in your app store.

You can usually stream with a free account, but particular shows, downloads, or other features may require an account or paid plan. If your main goal is simply to hear a show, try an available app before subscribing or buying accessories.

Listen with YouTube Music

  1. Open YouTube Music and tap Search.
  2. Enter the podcast name, host, or subject. Check the result carefully, especially if the show has separate audio and video listings.
  3. Open the show, choose an episode, and tap Play.
  4. Use the player to pause, skip or rewind, and change playback speed where those controls are available. Follow or save the show to find it more easily later.

Google documents YouTube Music podcast playback on Android and says podcasts can be used with Android Auto regardless of membership status. Its help page also describes streaming or downloading podcasts to compatible Wear OS watches. Watch playback depends on the watch, app, headphones, account, and a suitable connection or stored downloads. Podcast and music availability may differ by country, and a YouTube Music Premium membership may not remove ads inserted into podcasts. Google’s YouTube Music help page has current platform details.

  4. Follow or save the show if the current interface offers that option. Use the player controls for pause, skipping, rewind, queueing, or playback speed where available.

Spotify says free users can download podcasts for offline listening; downloading music requires Premium. Spotify’s support guidance says downloads require reconnecting to the internet at least once every 30 days. Its stated limits include downloads on up to five devices and up to 10,000 tracks per device, but that track figure is not a podcast-specific guarantee. Spotify recommends at least 1 GB of free space for downloads. See its offline-listening guidance and download feature details for the current rules. Podcast advertising and host-read sponsorships may still be present on Premium.

Listen with Amazon Music

  1. Open the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store, search for Amazon Music, and install it if needed.
  2. Open the app and sign in with an Amazon account.
  3. Search for a podcast, open the show, choose an episode, and tap Play.
  4. Check the episode page or its menu for download and subscription controls; options vary by episode and account.

Samsung announced on July 15, 2026, that Amazon Music would be available through the Galaxy Store and preinstalled on select Samsung phones and tablets. The announcement also described a limited-time three-month Amazon Music Unlimited offer for eligible new subscribers. Preinstallation and offer eligibility depend on device, territory, account, and terms; neither is guaranteed for every Galaxy owner. Samsung’s announcement gives the offer context.

What happened to Samsung Podcasts?

A U.S. Samsung community notice reports that Samsung Podcasts was discontinued on December 1, 2024, and that downloaded podcast data was removed. Yet Samsung’s Canadian support page, updated April 24, 2026, still describes a Podcasts tab in Samsung News. Those records point to regional, app-version, or service-transition differences; they do not establish that the feature is available on every device or in the United States. The practical choice for U.S. listeners is to install a current podcast app rather than rely on Samsung News or search for a guaranteed Samsung Podcasts app. See the U.S. Samsung community notice and Samsung Canada’s Samsung News guidance.

Download episodes for offline listening

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi if possible, then open the episode in your podcast app.
  2. Tap the app’s Download icon or look in the episode’s menu.
  3. Wait for the download to finish. Find it under a section named Downloads, Your Library, or Offline; the label depends on the app.
  4. Test the episode by temporarily turning off Wi-Fi and mobile data, or enabling airplane mode. Restore your connection afterward.

Streaming uses data; downloads use device storage. Audio generally uses less data than video, but actual usage depends on the app, quality, and episode. Offline access is managed by the app, not by Samsung’s basic media player. Some services require periodic online check-ins; app reinstallation can remove downloads, and some apps automatically delete episodes after playback. Members-only episodes may require an account or paid plan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If a download fails, check the connection, free storage, app updates, cellular-download settings, device limits, and any battery-saving or cleaning utilities that may restrict or remove files. Spotify also lists SD-card problems among possible download causes. Delete finished episodes when you need space, and avoid aggressive cleaner apps that may interfere with app data.

Use Galaxy Buds or other Bluetooth headphones

  1. Put the headphones or earbuds into pairing mode.
  2. On the Galaxy device, open Settings → Connections → Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
  3. Select the headphones in the available-device list and confirm pairing if asked.
  4. Return to the podcast app and press Play.

Basic Bluetooth audio works with Galaxy Buds and other Bluetooth-capable headphones. Advanced Buds features—such as certain controls or device-switching functions—vary by Buds model and connected device, and may require a Galaxy phone or the Galaxy Wearable app. Samsung’s Buds4 feature compatibility matrix distinguishes support by device type; do not assume its feature list applies to every Buds generation.

Listen in the car

Bluetooth audio

  1. Pair the Galaxy device with the vehicle’s Bluetooth system.
  2. Select Bluetooth audio on the car stereo.
  3. Before driving, open the podcast app and start playback. Use vehicle controls where supported.

Android Auto

Connect the phone by USB or wirelessly if both the vehicle and phone support that method. Sign in to the podcast app on the phone first, then select a compatible app on the Android Auto screen. Not every podcast app appears in Android Auto, and some apps or content may require an account or paid plan. Google’s Android Auto guidance covers music and podcast playback through the car’s speakers.

Set up subscriptions and downloads before setting off. Do not search, type, or browse on the phone while driving; use supported vehicle controls or voice commands instead.

Listen on a Galaxy Watch

Phone-free podcast listening depends on the watch model and its supported app. Google documents YouTube Music podcast streaming or downloads on compatible Wear OS watches. Pair Bluetooth headphones directly with the watch; then use a suitable Wi-Fi or LTE connection for streaming, or download episodes to the watch before leaving the phone behind. Available storage, app support, account permissions, and network access all matter, so check the instructions for your particular watch and app.

Use voice commands and playback controls

Depending on your device and setup, you may be able to ask Google Assistant or Gemini, use an app’s voice search, use earbud controls, or speak through Android Auto. Examples such as “Play [podcast name],” “Pause,” or “Skip forward” may work, but commands vary by assistant, app, vehicle, language, and current configuration. Google’s Android Auto help page uses “Play [podcast name]” as an example and notes that Assistant-to-Gemini changes may affect voice behavior. If a command opens the wrong app, try the app’s own search or start playback before connecting to the car.

Troubleshoot common problems

The app is missing from the store

Availability varies by country and device. Check both Google Play Store and Galaxy Store, and confirm that you are searching for the app’s current name. Avoid unofficial APK sites. If the app is unavailable, try another podcast service or the publisher’s website.

The show does not appear

  • Search for the host’s name or an exact episode title.
  • Check whether audio and video versions appear as separate listings.
  • The show may be region-restricted, exclusive to another service, or temporarily unavailable.
  • Check the publisher’s official website, then try another major podcast app.

Playback stops when the screen locks

Check whether the app and account support background playback for that content, then update the app and test an audio-only episode. On the phone, look under Settings → Apps → [podcast app] → Battery for background-use permissions; exact labels vary. Temporarily turn off extreme power-saving mode, avoid force-stopping the app, and download the episode if the network is unreliable.

A download fails or disappears

Check storage, connection, app updates, download-over-cellular settings, battery or cleaning utilities, and any account or device limits. Episodes may also be automatically deleted after listening, removed during reinstallation, or require an online account check. Following a show does not permanently archive every episode.

Bluetooth connects but there is no sound

  1. Confirm the headphones show as connected and selected as the media output.
  2. Raise media volume, not only ringtone volume.
  3. Pause and resume playback, then disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth.
  4. If needed, forget and re-pair the headphones; test another audio app to see whether the issue is app-specific.
  5. Restart the phone and earbuds if audio still does not play.

The podcast app is missing from Android Auto

Confirm the app is installed, signed in, and compatible with Android Auto; update both apps and check Android Auto’s launcher customization to see whether the app is disabled. Also verify that the phone is connected in the mode supported by the vehicle. Compatibility is app-specific.

Manage data, storage, and battery

  • Download episodes on Wi-Fi when practical, especially before travel or time in a weak-signal area.
  • In Spotify, the cellular download setting is under Profile picture → Settings and privacy → Data-saving and offline → Downloads and streaming → Downloads over cellular; labels can change with app updates.
  • Audio usually consumes less data and battery than video, but actual use varies with bitrate, screen activity, and connection quality.
  • Delete episodes you have finished. On supported Samsung models, check Settings → Battery and device care → Storage.
  • Review battery restrictions if downloads or background playback stop unexpectedly; avoid cleaner utilities that remove app data or restrict background activity.
