Netflix’s Sign out option is usually under Get Help, not the TV’s general settings. From the Netflix home screen, press Back, open Get Help, choose Sign out, then confirm with Yes. If that option is missing or the app will not respond, try Netflix’s remote-button sequence or sign the TV out from your account online. Signing out does not cancel your membership.
Sign out through Netflix’s Get Help menu
Netflix menu layouts vary by TV and app version. Its current general instructions describe both a top-menu layout and a left-side menu. Start from Netflix’s home screen—not the TV’s home screen.
If the Netflix menu is at the top
- Open Netflix and go to its home screen.
- Press Back on the remote.
- Move left to the profile icon, then select Get Help.
- Select Sign out, then select Yes to confirm.
If Netflix has a left-side menu
- Open Netflix and press Back from the Netflix home screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of the left-hand menu and select Get Help.
- Select Sign out, then Yes.
Netflix documents these sign-out paths at its TV and streaming-device troubleshooting page. The labels or menu position may differ on a particular device.
If Sign out is missing, use Netflix’s remote sequence
While Netflix is open, press the remote’s directional buttons in this order:

Choose the option shown: Sign out, Reset, Start Over or Deactivate. The available label depends on the device. Use the directional pad, not the volume or channel controls. This opens Netflix’s app control menu; it is not a factory reset of the television. Netflix’s general instructions do not apply to Apple TV, which has a separate sign-out process.
For Roku TV variations, Netflix also lists device-specific instructions at its Roku TV help page.

If Netflix is frozen or the remote is not responding
Check whether the problem is the remote or Netflix
- Press Home or open another app. If the TV responds elsewhere but Netflix does not, focus on the Netflix app.
- Replace or recharge the remote batteries if other remote commands fail.
- If the whole TV is unresponsive, restart it before trying the Netflix menu again.
Fully restart the TV or streaming device
- Turn off the TV or device running Netflix.
- Unplug it from power if possible; make sure it is fully off rather than merely in standby.
- For a smart TV, leave it off for at least 15 seconds, then reconnect power and turn it on.
- For some streaming devices, Netflix’s instructions call for pressing the device’s power button once while unplugged and waiting one minute, or leaving it unplugged for three minutes. Follow the instructions for your device.
- Reopen Netflix and try Get Help > Sign out. If the menu still lacks that choice, retry the remote sequence.
Netflix recommends a full restart for TV-app problems; see its restart instructions. A restart can clear a temporary app freeze, but it does not guarantee that every logout problem will be fixed.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

If a restart does not help, check for an update to the Netflix app in the TV’s app store, if that option is available. Also check for TV operating-system or firmware updates in the manufacturer’s settings. If Netflix runs on a Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, game console or set-top box, update that device instead of assuming the built-in TV app is involved.
Use reset, clear-data or reinstall options only if safer steps fail and the device offers them. Resetting Netflix can sign you out and delete downloads; uninstalling the app may also remove downloaded content where downloads are supported. Netflix explains the reset consequences at its app-reset help page.

A full device restore is a last resort: it may remove apps, saved data, Wi-Fi settings and other preferences. Have your Netflix credentials and Wi-Fi password ready if the manufacturer recommends one. Netflix’s device software and membership troubleshooting also covers situations where an inactive membership or payment problem prevents normal use.
Sign out of a TV you cannot access
If the TV is at a hotel, rental, former home or another place you cannot revisit, use Netflix’s account controls in a web browser:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Sign in to Netflix and open Manage Access and Devices.
- Find the TV or streaming device and open its options.
- Select Sign Out for that device.
To sign out everywhere, use Sign Out of All Devices on the same page and confirm. This is broader than signing out one TV: it also signs out phones, tablets, computers and other TVs.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the TV was in a hotel, rental or another household
If you no longer have access to the TV, use the account-side sign-out steps above. If you recognize the device and simply want to stop its access, signing it out is normally the relevant action. If you do not recognize a device or suspect someone else is using your account, change your Netflix password and sign out unfamiliar devices. Netflix recommends these steps for suspected unauthorized use at its account-security help page. A password change is a security measure, not a routine fix for a frozen logout menu.
A Netflix Household prompt is different from a failed sign-out. Netflix associates a Household with factors including the TV’s internet connection, device IDs and account activity. On a hotel TV, vacation rental, friend’s TV or second residence, a prompt asking whether the TV belongs to your Household may require device verification, a Household update or Netflix’s temporary travel process if you want to keep watching there. Signing out alone does not resolve every Household or verification prompt. See Netflix’s pages on Household use and travel and device verification.

Make sure you are signing out of the device running Netflix
A television can display Netflix from its built-in app or from a device connected over HDMI. Signing out of the TV’s app will not necessarily sign out of a Roku player, Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, game console or set-top box connected to it. Open Netflix on the device that is actually running the app and sign out there. If you need to remove access at a location, check each device you used there or use Sign Out of All Devices.
Netflix supports many TV and streaming-device categories, but support depends on the model. Some TVs and TV devices made before 2015 may no longer support Netflix; that does not mean every device from that year is unsupported. Check Netflix’s supported TV and streaming-device information before spending time on repeated app repairs.
Apple TV uses a separate process
Do not assume the generic smart-TV path or remote sequence applies to Apple TV. Netflix’s general TV instructions exclude Apple TV from that process. Use Netflix’s Apple TV-specific sign-out instructions for the Apple TV model and software you have.
When a logout problem points to something else
“Unable to log out” is usually a description of a symptom, not one standardized Netflix error code. The sign-out control may be hidden, the app may be frozen, remote input may not register, or stale app data or device software may be interfering. A network problem can affect Netflix, but a missing logout control alone does not prove that the network is the cause.
Quick Recap
- The app returns to the same account: Check that you signed out of the device actually running Netflix. A separate HDMI device, an incomplete app reset or another household member reopening the account can make it look as if logout failed.
- Netflix shows a membership or payment prompt: The account may be inactive or on hold; resolve the membership or payment issue through Netflix rather than repeatedly resetting the TV.
- The device is not listed online: It may not have appeared yet, or may fall under one of Netflix’s device-list exclusions. Use Sign Out of All Devices if you need broader account-side sign-out.
- The TV has a system or installation problem: Contact the TV or streaming-device manufacturer for model-specific firmware, app, remote or reset advice. Contact Netflix for account access, membership, Household or sign-in problems.
