Start by checking which OBS counter is rising. Network dropped frames usually mean the connection between your computer and YouTube’s ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Rendering lag and encoding lag are separate local performance problems, so lowering your internet plan or changing Wi-Fi settings will not address them. For an India-based store promo, check OBS Statistics and the session log, then troubleshoot the matching symptom rather than assuming an India-wide YouTube or ISP problem.
Identify the kind of frames OBS is losing
Open OBS’s Statistics window during the affected stream and note which counter increases. OBS distinguishes network delivery drops from rendering and encoding lag. Its 2024-09-30 connection guide explains that dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server: OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting. The Help Portal says an increasing “Dropped frames” counter with a yellow or red connection indicator means the server connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the set bitrate: OBS streaming issues.
- Network dropped frames: troubleshoot the route from the streaming computer to YouTube, available sustained upload, and configured bitrate.
- Rendering lag: OBS is struggling to render frames locally, often because of GPU load or complex scenes.
- Encoding lag: OBS is failing to encode frames at the required rate; investigate encoder and system workload.
Save the OBS session log for the affected broadcast as well as noting the counter. If viewers report buffering but OBS does not show drops, do not treat that alone as proof of a broadcaster-side network fault; viewer playback can be affected by their own devices, locations, and connections.
Fix rising network dropped frames
1. Reduce the bitrate to a sustainable level
In OBS, open Settings → Output and review the video bitrate. OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a guaranteed safe setting. Use sustained upload capacity rather than a brief peak, and remain within YouTube’s applicable streaming limits. The right value cannot be prescribed without the store’s stable upload result, chosen resolution and frame rate, and stream-health information.

If the current bitrate is too high for the connection, lower it and watch whether the network dropped-frame counter stabilizes. A lower bitrate can reduce image quality, so make the smallest practical change that produces reliable delivery rather than choosing a number based on the connection’s advertised download speed.
2. Test with wired Ethernet
If the streaming PC is on Wi-Fi, test a wired Ethernet connection. OBS notes that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming, but changing to Ethernet is a diagnostic step—not proof that Wi-Fi caused the issue or a guaranteed fix. A Cat6 Ethernet cable can make this test possible if a cable run from the router or network switch to the PC is practical. It cannot fix ISP congestion, an unstable route beyond the local network, or a bitrate above the connection’s sustained capacity.

3. Check software and drivers that can disrupt delivery
Temporarily check whether a VPN, firewall or antivirus product, bundled network-priority or optimization utility, or outdated network driver is interfering. If security software is implicated, OBS recommends adding an exception for OBS and re-enabling the protection rather than leaving it disabled. Get network drivers from the PC or motherboard manufacturer.
4. Use OBS network options cautiously
OBS documents Windows-specific network optimizations and TCP pacing options, as well as keeping Bind to IP at Default. It also describes testing IPv4-only; revert that change if it makes no difference. Menu availability can vary with OBS version and streaming protocol, so follow the current OBS connection guide rather than applying every option indiscriminately. Testing another service or server can help compare paths where appropriate, but success elsewhere does not itself repair YouTube delivery.

Dynamic bitrate can adapt to congestion and reduce dropped frames, but OBS cautions that it does not resolve the underlying connection problem. It can lower stream quality as it adjusts, so treat it as a mitigation rather than a substitute for stable upload capacity.
Fix rendering lag or encoding lag

- On Windows, try running OBS as administrator.
- Close other GPU-heavy applications and reduce unnecessary GPU load.
- Reduce output resolution or frame rate. If 60 fps is not keeping up, test 30 fps.
- Simplify scenes and scene collections; remove or reduce costly filters and browser sources where possible.
These steps address local rendering or encoding capacity. They do not fix an unstable connection between OBS and YouTube.

First confirm whether OBS itself reports network dropped frames. OBS notes that viewers can buffer even when the broadcaster is not dropping frames, because playback depends on each viewer’s device, location, and connection. If OBS is stable, investigate viewer-side playback separately. If accessibility across weaker connections is a concern, a lower stream bitrate or resolution may help; YouTube transcoding can give viewers quality choices, as described in OBS’s guidance on stream settings: Streaming with OBS Studio.

What to record for an India-specific diagnosis
There is not enough information about this store’s city, ISP, router, connection type, sustained upload, packet loss, selected YouTube ingest server, OBS version, or session log to identify a regional or provider-wide cause. For a useful follow-up diagnosis, collect one log from a single affected session and record:
- City and internet provider, plus whether the PC was on Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- The selected YouTube server and protocol, if shown in OBS.
- Configured bitrate, resolution, and frame rate.
- A sustained upload measurement taken under conditions similar to the stream.
- Which OBS Statistics counter rose and whether YouTube Studio reported a stream-health issue.
These details help narrow the fault; none alone establishes that an ISP or YouTube caused it.
