To go live from a phone or tablet, your YouTube channel needs at least 50 subscribers, verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and live streaming enabled. Then open the YouTube app and tap Create → Live. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
What you need before you can go live on mobile
YouTube Help lists these requirements for mobile live streaming:
- At least 50 subscribers. This threshold applies to mobile live streaming; it is not a universal requirement for every YouTube streaming method.
- A verified channel.
- No live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Live streaming turned on. The first activation may take up to 24 hours to become available.
- A supported device: Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 8 or later, according to YouTube’s published requirements.
These are YouTube’s stated eligibility conditions, not a way to see the status of a particular channel. Check your account if the Live option is unavailable. See YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements.
How to enable and start a mobile live stream
- Check that the channel is eligible. Confirm it has at least 50 subscribers, is verified, and has no live-streaming restriction from the past 90 days.
- Turn on live streaming for the channel. If this is your first activation, allow up to 24 hours before trying to start a stream.
- Open the YouTube app on your phone or tablet and sign in to the channel you intend to use.
- Tap Create → Live. Follow the in-app setup controls to add stream details and either start the broadcast or schedule it.

Why the Live option may be missing
Check each published requirement before treating the problem as an app fault. A channel can meet some conditions and still be unable to start if another one is unmet or first-time activation is pending.
- Fewer than 50 subscribers: the mobile feature’s minimum has not been met.
- Channel not verified: verify the channel, then check the app again.
- Recent live-streaming restriction: YouTube requires no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days.
- Live streaming not enabled, or activation still pending: turn it on and allow up to 24 hours for the first stream to become available.
- Unsupported operating system: YouTube lists Android 8.0+ and iOS 8+ as the minimums for mobile live streaming.
If you have 50 subscribers but still cannot go live, that number alone does not establish eligibility. Verify the channel, check its restriction and activation status, and confirm the device meets YouTube’s listed minimum. Public help pages cannot identify the status of an individual account.

What to expect with 50–999 subscribers
YouTube says mobile live streams from channels with 50–999 subscribers may have a limited audience, and their archived streams are set to private by default. After a channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, YouTube says changes may take several weeks to be reflected. These conditions are specific to the mobile eligibility guidance; consult YouTube Help for the current details.
