You can install Disney+ on supported iPhones and iPads, Android phones and tablets, Fire TV devices, Xbox One, PS4, and most Samsung Tizen TVs from 2016 onward. A Chromebook is different: Disney’s supported route is to stream in the latest version of Chrome on ChromeOS, rather than download a conventional desktop app. You need a Disney+ subscription to stream, and installing the app is not the same as downloading shows for offline viewing.
The requirements below reflect Disney’s guidance checked August 18, 2026. Supported devices and service availability can vary by country or territory; see Disney’s supported-device list for the broader range.

How to install Disney+ on a phone or tablet
iPhone and iPad
Disney+ requires iOS or iPadOS 16.5 or later. Check the device’s software version if the app does not appear or the store says it is incompatible.
- Open the App Store and search for Disney+.
- Check that the listing is the official Disney app, then tap Get or the cloud-download icon.

- Open Disney+ and sign in.
If installation fails, check the iOS/iPadOS version, App Store region, and available storage before trying again.
Android phone or tablet
Disney’s stated minimum is Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Some older or uncertified devices may still be unable to install the app or play content even if their version meets that minimum.
- Open Google Play Store and search for Disney+.
- Choose the official Disney+ listing and tap Install.
- When installation finishes, open the app and sign in.
Use Google Play rather than an unofficial APK site. If the listing is unavailable, check the device’s Android version, certification, region, and free storage.

- Press Home on the remote and open Apps.
- Search for Disney+. On some supported TVs it may already be installed.
- Select Disney+ and choose Install or Add to Home.
- Open it and sign in.
If it is missing, first confirm the TV is a supported Tizen model and check for a system update. Disney’s Samsung compatibility guidance has the platform details.

How to watch Disney+ on a Chromebook
Disney’s supported Chromebook guidance is browser-based: use the latest version of Chrome on ChromeOS. It does not give a conventional desktop-app installation path for Chromebook.
- Install any available ChromeOS update, then open Google Chrome.
- Go to the official Disney+ website.
- Select Log In and enter your account credentials.
- Choose a title to stream in the browser.
For supported browser details, see Disney’s computer and browser requirements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to activate Disney+ on a TV or console
Some TV-connected devices and consoles show a QR code or an eight-digit activation code instead of asking you to type your password with a remote.
- Open Disney+ on the device and select Log In.
- Scan the on-screen QR code with a phone, or open DisneyPlus.com/begin in a browser.
- Enter the eight-digit code displayed on the TV or console and complete the sign-in prompts.
- Wait for the device to refresh, then select Start Streaming.
If activation stalls, confirm the browser is signed in to the intended account, enter the code exactly, and generate a new code by restarting the app if needed. A private browser window can help if the activation page will not load. Do not share the code. Disney’s sign-in instructions cover device activation.

Installing the app is not the same as downloading shows
App installation lets you stream while connected to the internet. Offline downloads are available only on supported mobile devices—iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, Amazon Fire tablets, Apple Vision Pro, and Meta Quest—not on Fire TV Stick, TVs, Xbox One, PS4, Chromebooks, or computers.
Disney requires an eligible Premium plan or certain Premium bundle plans for downloads. Downloaded titles remain available only while the subscription is active, and the device must connect to the internet at least once every 30 days. Downloads can be stored on up to 10 supported mobile devices. Details are in Disney’s offline download rules.
What to do when Disney+ is missing or will not work
The app does not appear in the store
- Confirm the exact device model and operating system; a platform name alone does not establish compatibility.
- Check the requirements above and install available system updates.
- Check your country or territory and app-store region. Disney says support and availability can vary by location.
- Connect the device to the internet, verify available storage, and check whether parental controls restrict app installs.
The app installs but will not open
- Restart the device fully and check for app and operating-system updates.
- Clear the app cache or data if the platform provides that option; clearing data may require signing in again.
- If the problem remains, uninstall and reinstall the official app from the platform’s store.
- Confirm Disney+ is available in your territory and use the official app rather than a sideloaded package.
Disney provides cache and saved-data guidance and reinstall steps.
Playback buffers or quality drops
Check the internet connection and, where possible, use a stable Wi-Fi or wired connection. Disney’s published speed recommendations are 5 Mbps for HD, 8 Mbps for live content, and 25 Mbps for 4K UHD. These are recommendations, not a guarantee of a particular picture quality: plan, device, connection, and the title all affect available video and audio features. See Disney’s recommended speeds.

TV or console sign-in fails
Use the QR or activation-code route rather than repeatedly typing with the remote. Verify the eight-digit code and the account in the browser; if the screen remains stuck, restart Disney+ and use the newly displayed code.
If your TV is unsupported
Check first whether a streaming device or console you already own is compatible. Supported Fire TV devices, Xbox One or newer supported Xbox consoles, and PS4 or newer supported PlayStations are options. Disney also lists HDMI connection from a supported computer and AirPlay from a supported Apple device as ways to watch on a TV. Its supported-device list covers additional platforms. Verify the exact model and regional availability before buying hardware; an unsupported Samsung TV does not necessarily mean you need a new television.
Is Disney+ free to download?
The app is generally available from the relevant official store without a separate app purchase, but streaming requires a subscription. Disney’s U.S. pricing page, as observed April 30, 2026, listed Disney+ with ads at $11.99 per month, Premium without ads at $18.99 per month, and Premium annual at $189.99 per year. These are dated U.S. prices, not permanent rates; bundles and third-party billing may differ. Disney’s page said there was no current free trial. Check Disney’s pricing page for current terms.
