To run separate 24/7 YouTube radio stations for different moods at the same time, create an independent feed and broadcast for each distinct music program. For example, an ambient station and an upbeat station need separate stream resources and encoder configurations if they are to carry different music concurrently. YouTube also supports associating multiple broadcasts with one stream, but that shares the same feed; it does not create separate programming.
Choose the right YouTube setup for each mood
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a liveStream—the feed sent to YouTube—from a liveBroadcast, the YouTube broadcast associated with that feed. The distinction matters: separate videos do not necessarily mean separate stations.

Plan each station before configuring it
Define the programming and schedule
List the moods you intend to run, the tracks and visuals each feed will contain, and whether each needs to be live concurrently. Keep the content plan for each independent station distinct. If you only need the same program shown in multiple videos, use the shared-feed model instead of creating the impression that one feed supplies different music.

Check rights for music, visuals, and replays
Confirm that your permissions cover the actual tracks and visuals, territories, continuous live use, and any archive or replay use. A general permission to use a track may not address all of those uses. YouTube says its live streams are scanned for third-party content; detected material may lead to a placeholder image, interruption, or termination. For licensed third-party material, YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived stream may also receive a Content ID claim after the live broadcast ends. Read YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.
Do not treat YouTube’s live Content ID matching feature as a general music-clearance tool. YouTube describes that feature as highly sensitive and restricts access to certain partners with Content Manager access; it requires global rights and exclusive ownership of the matched live content. Its documentation also says third-party material, such as background music, is not permitted in a stream using that feature. Set up and test each independent feed
- Create a separate broadcast and stream for each distinct concurrent program. In YouTube’s Live Streaming API model, each station needs its own feed when it is carrying different content at the same time. Keep a record of which stream resource, broadcast, mood, and rights coverage belong together.
- Prepare a continuous audio-video output for each station. Supply the mood’s music and any visuals as a feed that an encoder can send to YouTube. The reviewed YouTube documentation does not establish a required encoder product, operating system, or 24/7 restart script, so choose an encoder workflow that supports your planned output and can be monitored.
- Configure each encoder with that station’s stream settings. Do not reuse a stream configuration when you intend to send a different program simultaneously. Check that the selected broadcast is paired with the intended feed before starting it.
- Run a test for every station before relying on it continuously. Verify that the intended music and visuals reach the correct broadcast, that the feed remains available through a test period, and that the rights arrangements cover the planned live and archived use. No single test can guarantee that automated rights checks will not interrupt a later stream.
- Use protocol-specific instructions where applicable. If you choose HLS ingestion, YouTube’s HLS setup guidance specifies TS segments 1–4 seconds long, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. These are HLS requirements, not universal settings for every YouTube ingestion method. YouTube lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output. Consult YouTube Live Streaming API: HLS ingestion.
Keep multiple stations manageable
- Label resources clearly. Use a consistent internal naming scheme for each mood, feed, broadcast, encoder profile, and rights record so a station is not accidentally started with another mood’s content.
- Track content and permissions per feed. A rights arrangement for one catalog or program does not automatically establish permission for another.
- Separate simultaneous programs technically. If two moods must be live at once, each needs its own distinct feed; a single shared stream carries the same content to its bound broadcasts.
- Plan for continuity. YouTube’s reviewed documentation does not prescribe a universal 24/7 restart script or a particular server or computer. Choose and test an operating method that can detect and recover from encoder or connection failures.
Common problems and what to check
Both mood broadcasts play the same music
They may be bound to the same stream. YouTube’s shared-stream option presents the same feed in multiple broadcasts. For distinct concurrent programming, configure separate stream resources and send the appropriate content to each.
A live stream shows a placeholder or is interrupted
YouTube may identify third-party content during live scanning. Review the affected program’s music and visuals, confirm that the rights cover live use, and ask the rights holder about channel allowlisting through Content ID when you have licensed material. A license does not guarantee that automated scanning will never interrupt a stream.

A claim appears after the broadcast ends
YouTube says archived live streams may receive Content ID claims after completion. Check the claim details and verify the rights and permitted archive use for the material in that feed.
An HLS feed is rejected or unstable
Check that you are applying the HLS-specific setup: TS segments of 1–4 seconds, no more than five outstanding segments in the rolling playlist, and HTTPS POST/PUT. Do not apply these HLS constraints to a different ingestion protocol. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide.
