A local OBS setup gives you direct control, but your computer, power and internet connection must stay available. YouTube can interrupt a stream over detected third-party content, and a single broadcast longer than 12 hours is not guaranteed a complete archived replay.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has live streaming enabled and has no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. YouTube currently says streamers must be at least 16. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance for current requirements.
- An encoder, such as OBS, and a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen stream settings.
- An animated scene and audio files in formats your encoder can play.
- Rights to use the animation, music recordings and compositions, and any other assets in the broadcast.
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for the necessary rights on the content provider. Keep written permissions that cover live streaming and, if you plan to keep replays, recording and archive use. How do I loop a pixel art video on a YouTube livestream?
1. Create a scene that can loop cleanly
Make or commission an original pixel-art scene, then animate it so the ending can return to the beginning without a visible jump. Check the transition locally, including any movement, lighting changes or animated details. The OBS documentation confirms that Media Source can loop a file; it does not prescribe a particular frame rate, resolution or pixel-art export setting.
OBS Media Source supports video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. Confirm the format you export is supported by your installed encoder. See OBS Media Sources documentation.

2. Add and loop the media in OBS
- Open OBS and create a scene for the radio stream.
- In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and select the local animated video. If the animation and music are separate, add the music as its own media source.
- Enable the Media Source’s Loop setting so playback starts again when it finishes.
- Arrange any title, now-playing information or other overlays. Keep important text away from edges where it may be difficult to read on smaller screens.
- Play the scene and check that the video loops smoothly and that audio neither cuts out nor restarts awkwardly. Make sure the intended audio source is the one OBS sends to the stream.
OBS describes Loop as setting whether the file plays again after playback completes. It does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted streaming: the source file, OBS, computer, power and connection still have to work.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a broadcast.
- Open the encoder’s stream settings and enter the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current interface.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it, show it in overlays or send it to anyone who does not need access. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live settings and update OBS.
- Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview. Check the picture and sound there before making the broadcast public or telling viewers it is live.
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for supported codecs and settings. Its recommended keyframe interval is 2 seconds; do not assume that a setting suitable for one resolution or frame rate is suitable for every stream. See YouTube’s encoder settings.

Test and monitor the stream
Test before launch with audio and movement similar to the actual broadcast. Check your upload speed, then choose a bitrate your connection can sustain reliably rather than targeting the maximum it reaches briefly. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health. Its live-stream tips also advise setting up in advance, checking access on watch pages and devices, and continuously monitoring sound and picture.
- Watch YouTube’s preview for a stable picture and confirm the stream is reaching the intended broadcast.
- Listen for silence, distortion, abrupt music transitions or audio that does not match the animation.
- Check OBS for dropped frames and confirm the media source continues playing and loops as intended.
- Check the watch page on the devices and connections your audience is likely to use.
These checks reduce avoidable failures but cannot guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation.

What music can I use in a 24/7 lo-fi livestream?
Use music only when you have permission for the actual use. That may mean original music you control or a license that expressly covers livestreaming; if you want to keep a replay, confirm it also covers recording or archive use. Check territory, duration, attribution and any conditions imposed by the recording and composition rights holders.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can cause the stream to be replaced with a placeholder and trigger a warning; continued use can lead to interruption or termination. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption if a rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Ask the owner or licensor about allowlisting before you launch. Do not assume YouTube Creator Music covers this use: YouTube’s terms limit its licensed and revenue-sharing tracks to long-form videos, not live streams or Shorts. A separate license must fit your broadcast and any rights-management settings the owner requires.

Keep a local OBS broadcast running
With a local encoder, the computer, OBS, power, internet connection and source files all need to remain available. Someone also needs a way to notice and respond if the encoder or connection stops. Plan how you will recover after a power cut, computer restart, internet outage or source-file error; a loop setting cannot restart a failed broadcast on its own.

Understand the replay limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A single continuous 24-hour broadcast is therefore not guaranteed to produce a complete archived replay. If preserving the programming matters, plan a separate recording or archive workflow and verify that your rights cover it. See the archive note in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Monetization is a separate decision
A channel that loops music and visuals is not automatically eligible for monetization. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy update calls repetitive or mass-produced material “inauthentic content” and says it is ineligible for monetization. Reused-content review is channel-wide and separate from copyright review. Make your authorship and meaningful original production evident across the channel, but no checklist can guarantee YouTube will approve a particular channel. Live-stream ads and fan-funding features also have separate eligibility and configuration conditions for Partner Program channels.
