Streamlabs Stream Boss is an interactive on-stream widget that turns supported audience activity—such as follows, tips, bits, and subscriptions—into damage against a boss. Viewers can compete to defeat it and claim the throne. To set it up, configure the battle in the Streamlabs Dashboard, save its health settings, then add the widget as a native source in Streamlabs Desktop or as a Browser Source in OBS Studio and other compatible broadcasting software.
What Streamlabs Stream Boss does
Stream Boss puts a health-based battle on your stream. When supported audience events occur, they affect the boss’s health according to the values you configure. The battle is an engagement feature—not a promise of more viewers, growth, or income.
It is different from an ordinary goal bar: the central mechanic is a boss whose health changes as viewers participate. If you want to display progress toward a target without a battle, Streamlabs has separate goal widgets.
Choose how the battle should work
In the Dashboard’s Manage Battle settings, choose a starting health value and a battle mode. The mode determines what happens after a boss is defeated:

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Mode | How it works | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed | Each boss starts with the same health. | You want the challenge to stay consistent from one battle to the next. |
| Incremental | Each defeat adds an amount of health that you set to the next boss. | You want successive battles to become harder over time. |
| Overkill | Excess damage on the killing blow is multiplied and becomes the next boss’s health. | You want the next battle’s health to depend on how much the winning attack exceeds the remaining health. |
Streamlabs gives 2,000 as an example starting-health value for creators who want more frequent boss changes. It is an example, not a universal recommended setting. Choose health and event effects to suit your own audience and stream pace; the setup guide does not establish a universally optimal balance.
Configure Stream Boss in the Streamlabs Dashboard
- Sign in to the Streamlabs Dashboard.
- Open All Widgets from the left navigation and select Stream Boss.
- Choose a theme. Use Launch to preview the widget, and preview again after saving your changes.
- Under Manage Battle, set the starting health and select Fixed, Incremental, or Overkill. For Incremental, set the added health; for Overkill, account for the multiplied excess damage carrying into the next boss.
- Open Settings and decide how supported events—such as follows, bits, subscriptions, and tips—affect health. Set the effects deliberately so one event type does not dominate the battle unintentionally.
- Customize the appearance if needed, including the kill animation, fade time, font, background color, and health-bar colors. Streamlabs suggests zero fade time if you want the health bar to remain visible continuously.
- Save your settings. Return to Manage Battle and select Save Stream Boss Health to activate the widget.
Add the widget to your streaming software
Streamlabs Desktop
- Open Sources, select the add-source control, and choose Widgets > Stream Boss.
- Configure the available tabs: Goal for starting health and battle mode, Manage Battle for interaction effects, and Visual Settings for appearance.
- Select Done, then position and resize the source on the canvas.
- Use Sources for advanced controls such as audio and custom CSS if you need them.
OBS Studio, XSplit, or similar software
- Copy the Stream Boss Widget URL from its Streamlabs settings.
- In your broadcasting software, add a Browser Source.
- Paste the widget URL, set the source width and height to fit your scene, and confirm.
- Check the source in your scene and adjust its size or placement in the broadcasting software.
Control names and menus can differ by software version. The documented approach for OBS Studio, XSplit, and similar compatible software is a Browser Source; exact version-specific menus are not specified in the Streamlabs instructions.

Check the scene and event behavior before relying on it
- Preview the widget after saving, and verify that the selected theme, colors, font, and fade behavior are legible against your scene.
- Confirm that the starting health and battle mode match the pace you intend. Fixed health repeats the same starting challenge; Incremental and Overkill change the next boss after a defeat.
- Review the event effects in Settings. Which events are available can depend on account configuration; the guide does not establish that every event is enabled for every account.
- If the source does not appear in your scene, check that you added the Stream Boss widget in Streamlabs Desktop or used the widget URL in a Browser Source in other software.
Troubleshooting common setup problems
The widget is missing from the scene
Confirm that the source was added to the active scene and that setup was saved. In Streamlabs Desktop, add it from Sources > Widgets > Stream Boss. In other compatible software, verify that the Browser Source contains the Stream Boss Widget URL.
The widget is present but difficult to see
Check the source’s placement and dimensions, then review the background color, health-bar colors, and font in its visual settings. If the bar disappears after activity, review the fade-time setting; zero fade time keeps it visible continuously according to Streamlabs’ guidance.

The next boss has unexpected health
Check the mode under Manage Battle. Incremental adds the amount you configured after a defeat, while Overkill carries multiplied excess damage into the next boss’s health. If you want the same starting health every time, select Fixed.
Expected audience events do not affect health
Review the event effects in Settings and confirm that the event type is supported and available for your account configuration. Streamlabs’ guide does not guarantee identical event availability across all accounts or platforms.

Streamlabs Stream Boss is an overlay widget; it does not keep a prerecorded YouTube stream live. If your separate goal is to loop uploaded videos on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud service for that task: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free day.
