To create a 24/7 YouTube jazz radio channel with lo-fi visuals, clear the music and artwork for continuous YouTube live use, build a looping audio-and-visual scene, and send it through an encoder to YouTube Live. The channel must be verified and eligible to livestream; the encoder needs a stable upload connection; and a stream running longer than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube. Plan rights, monitoring, recovery, and local recording before you launch.
1. Prepare the YouTube channel before launch
- Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days.
- Enable live streaming in advance. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this until launch day. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast. Copy the stream URL and stream key for the encoder. Keep the key private: anyone with it can send a feed to your channel.
YouTube describes encoders as the option for productions that need more control over audio and video inputs. Its encoder setup guide explains the connection process.
2. Clear the music and visuals separately
Before assembling the station, confirm that you have the rights for every asset in the broadcast. A music license and an illustration license solve different problems; neither should be assumed to cover the other.
Questions to ask about the jazz
- Does the license explicitly permit YouTube live transmission, rather than only personal listening or use in an ordinary edited video?
- Does it allow continuous or repeated playback, including a loop that may run day and night?
- Does it cover commercial use if you plan to monetize the channel, and the territories in which the stream will be available?
- Does it permit synchronization with your chosen visual and retention of a recording or replay?
- Can the rights owner add your channel to its Content ID allowlist?
Keep the license, invoice, and any written permissions. “Royalty-free” does not by itself establish permission for every use above, and a subscription to a music service should not be treated as a live-stream license unless its terms say so. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match may cause a placeholder to replace the broadcast and a warning to appear; if the matched content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube Help says: “If you’ve licensed third-party content to use in your stream, ask the owner of the content to add your channel to their allowlist through Content ID.” See Copyright issues with live streams.

YouTube Creator Music is not a shortcut for this format: the cited usage guidance says its licensed tracks are not for live streams. Check the current Creator Music usage terms before relying on any platform music product, since terms can change.
Questions to ask about the lo-fi scene
Get separate permission for the illustration or animation, fonts, logos, and any other visual elements. Confirm that the rights cover broadcast, looping, relevant territories, and replay retention where applicable. A static illustration with restrained motion can work as a station look, but that is a design choice, not a YouTube requirement.

3. Build and check the looping scene
- Assemble the cleared jazz audio and approved visual in an encoder or production application that can output a continuous live feed.
- Check the entire loop, including its endpoint and restart. Listen for silence, clipping, abrupt transitions, and changes in loudness; inspect the visual for unintended black frames or overlays.
- Play the output through the encoder preview and YouTube Live Control Room preview. Check the sound from a separate device as well as the production computer.
- Confirm that the right audio and visual sources are selected before going live. A still image does not remove the need to send a valid audio/video stream.
4. Set encoder output for YouTube
Use RTMP or RTMPS ingest. YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, or AV1 depending on the protocol, and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. For a broadly compatible setup, use H.264 video and AAC audio if your encoder offers them.

These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a given internet connection can sustain a particular stream. Choose a bitrate within the guidance that your encoder and connection can maintain, then verify stream health in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

5. Design for continuous operation
YouTube recommends upload capacity at least 20% above the stream bitrate. Shared connections can reduce the bandwidth actually available to the encoder, so allow headroom rather than planning around a speed-test peak. For example, a 6 Mbps video bitrate calls for at least 7.2 Mbps of upload capacity under that recommendation, before accounting for other household or office traffic. See YouTube’s network guidance.
- Use a reliable network path and check that other devices or uploads will not consume the available capacity.
- Monitor stream health and audio/video quality after launch; do not assume that a live indicator means the feed is clean.
- Decide who or what will respond to encoder, computer, power, or internet failure. YouTube’s guidance does not guarantee uptime or provide a complete unattended-recovery design.
- If you configure primary and backup encoders, test the failover path rather than assuming it will take over correctly. YouTube discusses this in its live streaming tips.
6. Protect the archive and plan restarts
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a replay matters, end each scheduled segment with a margin before 12 hours, then start the next one; YouTube does not prescribe a specific restart interval below that limit. Keep a local recording as a backup and check that the file exists, plays, and continues growing. The archive guidance is at YouTube’s live-stream archive help page.

An external SSD can be a practical recording destination, but there is no universal capacity figure: estimate storage from your recording bitrate, resolution, file format, and intended retention period.

- Start with a private or unlisted test broadcast and confirm that the Live Control Room receives a stable feed.
- Watch and listen from another device. Check for correct framing, clean loop transitions, steady audio, and any warnings or copyright notices.
- Verify that the local recording is being created if you are relying on it for backup.
- Only after the test looks and sounds right, switch to the planned public broadcast and keep monitoring it.
