To stream an Indian-language video continuously to YouTube, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, copy its ingestion URL and private stream key, then run FFmpeg with the file looped, the intended audio track explicitly mapped, and YouTube-compatible encoding settings. For a playlist, use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer with compatible files and test every transition before relying on the stream.
1. Prepare a YouTube Live stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, create or select a scheduled or immediate encoder stream.
- Copy the stream’s server or ingestion URL and stream key. Use the exact endpoint YouTube provides for that stream; an example endpoint is not a substitute.
- Prefer the RTMPS endpoint when YouTube provides one. Enter the endpoint and key in FFmpeg’s output URL in the format required by that endpoint.
- Keep the key private. YouTube describes it as password-like: do not put it in a public script repository, screenshot or log. If it is exposed, reset it in Studio and update the FFmpeg command.
- For a scheduled event, check whether the encoder feed must be followed by the Live Control Room’s Go live action. YouTube also offers auto-start and auto-stop settings; confirm their selected behavior before production.
A connected encoder feed and a viewer-facing broadcast are distinct parts of YouTube Live. Confirm that the event is actually live in the Live Control Room rather than assuming FFmpeg connecting alone completes every scheduled-event step.
2. Inspect the videos and choose the language audio
Before streaming, inspect each file’s video, audio and subtitle streams. Files may contain more than one audio track; map the intended one explicitly instead of assuming the first track is the desired language. In the command below, -map 0:a:0 selects the first audio stream from the input. If, for example, the intended track is the second audio stream, change it to -map 0:a:1 after verifying the stream order.
- Listen to the selected track before going live, including at the start and end of the file.
- For a playlist, confirm that each file has the expected language track and compatible audio layout. A stream index that selects the right language in one file may not select it in another.
- Review any captions or subtitles for spelling, names and script rendering. Identify the language accurately in the title and description, and use YouTube’s captions workflow for captions. Language metadata does not change the spoken track or create captions by itself.
YouTube’s reviewed encoder guidance does not call for a special ingest protocol for Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Bengali, Urdu or other Indian languages. The important language-specific work is choosing and checking the right media track and making accurate captions available.

3. Choose a continuous-playback method
| Approach | Best suited to | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Loop one file | A simple, repeating broadcast built from one video. | Check that the beginning-to-end transition is acceptable and that the selected audio remains correct when the file restarts. |
| Loop a concatenated playlist | A sequential rotation of several videos. | Use compatible streams, test each transition, and check audio continuity and the return from the final item to the first. |
Loop one file
FFmpeg’s input loop option can repeat one file indefinitely. The pattern below reads the file at playback speed with -re, maps its first video and audio streams, encodes H.264 video and AAC audio, and sends the output to an RTMPS ingest URL. Replace the file path and endpoint placeholders with your own values.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "video.mp4"
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 5M -maxrate 5M -bufsize 10M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://INGEST_HOST/APP/STREAM_KEY"
This is an illustrative command pattern, not a tested command. FFmpeg options are order-sensitive and apply to the following input or output, so check the help for your installed FFmpeg build and test the exact command privately. Replace the sample output URL with the exact ingestion URL and key format YouTube gives you. If the intended audio is not the first audio stream, change the audio map after inspecting the file.

Loop a playlist
For sequential playback, make a text file such as playlist.txt with the paths to your files:
file '/absolute/path/video-01.mp4'
file '/absolute/path/video-02.mp4'
Then use the concat demuxer and loop the resulting input:

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0

-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://INGEST_HOST/APP/STREAM_KEY"
The concat demuxer is appropriate when the files have compatible streams. Check codec, resolution, frame rate, sample rate and channel layout; do not assume FFmpeg will make mismatched media join cleanly. If needed, preprocess the files into a consistent format or use a suitable filter and transcode pipeline. -safe 0 relaxes path restrictions, so use it only with a playlist you control. Confirm that your FFmpeg build supports the protocol and codecs you intend to use.
4. Set video and audio for YouTube
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 ingestion over RTMP/RTMPS. H.264 is the widely interoperable baseline. Its guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), progressive scan, square pixels, Rec. 709 for SDR, and a keyframe interval of two seconds (not more than four seconds). The sample commands use H.264, CBR-style bitrate limits, progressive-compatible pixel format and a two-second GOP at 30 fps.

| Setting | YouTube encoder guidance or sample value | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264, H.265 or AV1 are listed for RTMP/RTMPS; H.264 is the widely interoperable baseline. | The example commands use H.264 through libx264. |
| 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 | 5 Mbps recommended bitrate. | The example’s -b:v 5M matches this recommendation; adjust it if your resolution or frame rate differs. |
| 1080p at 60 fps, H.264 | 6 Mbps recommended bitrate. | Choose bitrate, frame rate and keyframe/GOP settings together rather than carrying over the 30 fps example unchanged. |
| Keyframes | Two-second interval recommended; do not exceed four seconds. | At 30 fps, a 60-frame GOP corresponds to two seconds. Recalculate for the selected frame rate. |
| Stereo audio | AAC or MP3 audio is listed; stereo AAC guidance specifies 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. | The examples encode AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. |
| 5.1 audio | 48 kHz and 384 kbps; 5.1 is supported only with AAC on RTMP/RTMPS. | Do not apply the stereo example unchanged if the source and intended output are 5.1. |
The 1080p bitrates above are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that a stream will work over an unstable uplink. Check sustained upload capacity and test with representative motion and audio. A bitrate that exceeds what the connection can sustain can undermine delivery even if the encoder settings match the recommendation.

- Run a private or otherwise non-public test using the actual files, audio selection, endpoint and encoding settings you plan to use.
- For a playlist, watch each transition and the wrap from the last file to the first. Listen for gaps, silence, unexpected language changes or a track that disappears.
- Start FFmpeg and inspect its output for input decode errors, dropped or duplicated frames, reconnects and output failures.
- Open the YouTube Live Control Room preview and check stream health before promoting the broadcast. For a scheduled stream, complete any required Go live action.
- Keep the source files accessible and plan how the process will be restarted if FFmpeg, the host, storage or network fails.
A process supervisor can restart a crashed FFmpeg process, but that alone does not ensure uninterrupted playback. The operator still needs to account for reconnect behavior, key validity, host restarts, disk access and internet outages.

6. Understand YouTube’s continuous-feed and archive limits
Google’s YouTube Live API describes a 24/7 feed as an architecture use case in which a persistent incoming liveStream can be associated with a separate viewer-facing liveBroadcast. Separately, YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. These facts do not establish that one endless broadcast will be saved as one complete archive video.
If a complete replay matters, schedule bounded sessions, preserve source media locally and verify current YouTube Studio behavior for the event you are running. A continuous feed and an automatically archived, complete single video are different operational goals.
7. Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg cannot connect or YouTube reports no incoming stream. | Wrong ingestion URL or key, an unavailable endpoint, or unsupported protocol in the installed FFmpeg build. | Copy the exact endpoint and key from the selected Studio stream, verify RTMPS support, and check that the key has not been reset or exposed. |
| The scheduled event has an encoder feed but is not viewer-live. | The event may require the Live Control Room’s Go live action, or its auto-start behavior may differ from what you expect. | Check the event’s Studio state and its auto-start/auto-stop settings. |
| Video stutters, drops frames or loses connection. | The uplink may not sustain the chosen bitrate, or the network may be unstable. | Check sustained upload capacity, lower bitrate or output demands as appropriate, and test with representative content before the broadcast. |
| A playlist stops, glitches or has a bad transition. | Files may have incompatible codecs, resolutions, frame rates, sample rates or channel layouts. | Inspect every file, test the full sequence including the loop point, and preprocess to consistent media if needed. |
| The wrong language plays or audio disappears. | The selected audio stream index may not match the intended language across files. | Inspect each file’s audio streams, update the map or normalize playlist inputs, then listen through every transition. |
| FFmpeg exits and the broadcast does not recover. | Decode errors, host or disk problems, a key issue, or an outage may have stopped the process. | Read FFmpeg logs, verify source access and key validity, and address restart and reconnect handling. A process supervisor alone cannot cover every failure mode. |
| One long broadcast does not produce the expected complete replay. | A persistent feed is not the same thing as an unlimited-duration archive; YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. | Use bounded sessions if a complete archive is important, keep local source copies and verify the event’s current Studio behavior. |
