Netflix’s documented control is for viewing activity, not a separate “clear search history” list. To hide titles you watched, open Netflix in a browser, go to Account → Profiles → choose a profile → Viewing activity, then select the hide icon beside a title—or choose Hide all at the bottom. Netflix says changes may take up to 24 hours to appear on all devices.
If you mean words entered in Netflix’s search box rather than shows you watched, the help-documented viewing-activity control does not establish a way to erase those search terms.
Hide a watched title from Netflix viewing activity
- Sign in to Netflix in a web browser.
- Open Account.
- Under Profiles, select the profile whose activity you want to change.
- Choose Viewing activity.
- On the Watching page, select the hide icon beside the episode or title. Confirm if prompted.
Netflix describes this as hiding a title from viewing history. The control is profile-specific, so repeat the steps for another profile if needed. Netflix accounts can have up to five profiles, with separate viewing activity and recommendations. Netflix’s instructions for hiding titles and its profile overview explain these settings.

To remove a series rather than just one episode, hide an episode from that series. Netflix then offers an option to hide the entire series. Choose that option if you do not want to repeat the action for each episode.

To hide all viewing activity for the selected profile, scroll to the bottom of its Viewing activity page, select Hide all, and confirm. This is not a reset of every profile on the account; select each profile separately if you want to manage its history too.
If you want a copy before hiding everything, Netflix provides Download all at the bottom of the same page. The downloaded viewing list can be opened as a spreadsheet with software that supports CSV files. If your account is inactive, Netflix says you must download a copy of your information to see viewing history. See its viewing activity and download guidance.

What hiding a title changes
According to Netflix, a hidden title is removed from the profile’s watched-title record, is not used for recommendations unless it is watched again, and is removed from Continue Watching. The update may take up to 24 hours to reach all devices. If the title remains visible immediately after hiding it, allow time for the change to sync and check again later.

Remove a title from Continue Watching only
If you only want to tidy the row and do not need to change viewing activity, use Netflix’s separate removal control where available:
- Computer: Hover over the title in Continue Watching and choose Remove From Row.
- TV: Open the title’s details page and choose Remove from Continue Watching.
- Mobile: Open the title’s menu and select Remove From Row.
Availability and labels can differ by device or app version. Netflix documents the options in its Continue Watching removal instructions.

Can you clear it in the Netflix app?
Netflix’s verified instructions for managing viewing activity use the account page in a web browser. If you cannot find Viewing activity in the app, open Netflix.com in a browser and follow the steps above. Avoid assuming every TV or mobile app has the same account menus; the interface can vary.

Why can’t I hide a title?
- You are on a Kids profile: Netflix says titles cannot be hidden from the Viewing activity page reached through a Netflix Kids profile. Manage the relevant profile through account settings where possible; deleting or replacing a Kids profile can affect other profile data.
- You are viewing the wrong profile: Activity belongs to an individual profile. Return to Account and select the profile whose titles you want to hide.
- The title still appears on a device: Changes may take up to 24 hours to sync. After that, switch profiles and return, or sign out and back in. If the problem is limited to Continue Watching, check whether the device offers Remove From Row and update its Netflix app.
Clearing browser cookies is not a substitute for changing account-level viewing activity; cookies affect local browser data, not necessarily the history attached to your Netflix profile.

Does “Hide” permanently erase Netflix’s records?
Do not treat the viewing-activity control as a guarantee that every copy of the information has been permanently deleted. Netflix describes the action as hiding titles from a profile’s viewing history. Its privacy materials say it may retain personal information as required or permitted by law and for other stated purposes. For details, see Netflix’s privacy and information-retention guidance.
If you mean browser search history
There are two different things people call “Netflix search history”: titles watched on a Netflix profile, and search phrases entered into Netflix’s search box. The documented Viewing activity control addresses the former; it is not a browser-history tool and should not be taken as proof that Netflix’s internal records of search terms are erased. If you mean searches stored by your web browser, manage them in that browser’s own history settings.
Should you delete the profile instead?
Usually not just to remove a title. Deleting a profile is a more destructive option: Netflix says it removes that profile’s viewing history and game saves, along with personalized profile data such as recommendations, My List, ratings, and playback preferences. The primary profile cannot be deleted. Use profile deletion only when the profile is disposable and you accept losing its associated data. See Netflix’s profile management information.
If someone else used your profile, hide the unwanted activity and consider setting up separate profiles. If you suspect unauthorized access, change the account password and sign out of devices rather than relying only on history cleanup.
