Choose from the size chart for the exact stream-merch item, not from its S, M, L, or XL label alone. Compare the chart’s measurements with a similar shirt or hoodie you own and like, making sure both measurements describe the same thing—such as flat garment width rather than body circumference. Then account for the item’s cut and the fit you want.
Start with the exact product’s size chart
Stream merch is not sized by one universal standard. Cuts and measurements can differ between sellers, garment styles, and even products from the same store. Open the chart for the item you plan to buy and check that it matches the garment type and category: for example, an adult hoodie rather than a youth T-shirt. The Official Merch Report Store advises choosing by the measurements for the specific product instead of relying on the size label alone (product details and sizing guidance).
- Check whether the chart is for a T-shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie.
- Confirm whether it is an adult, youth, or children’s chart; do not assume these ranges correspond directly.
- Note the units, listed fit or cut, available sizes, and how the seller defines each measurement.
Compare the chart with a garment you already like
Choose a similar item from your wardrobe that fits the way you want the merch to fit. Lay it flat, smooth it without stretching, and measure the points the seller’s chart specifies. Many charts use chest width measured across a flat garment, but measuring points can vary, so follow the chart rather than assuming every seller uses the same method. Rally & Love and FaZe Merch Store both describe comparing chart measurements with a well-fitting garment you own (Rally & Love size guide; FaZe Merch Store size guide).
- Find a similar garment with the fit you want. Compare a tee with a tee or a hoodie with a hoodie where possible.
- Lay it flat and smooth it without pulling or stretching the fabric.
- Measure the chart’s stated points, such as chest width and body length. Follow its reference points for length, since a shoulder or collar starting point may differ between charts.
- Compare each number only with the same type of measurement on the chart.
A flat chest width is not the same as body chest circumference. A garment’s full circumference and a person’s body measurement are also different quantities. If a chart is unclear about what its numbers represent, ask the seller before ordering rather than treating unlike measurements as interchangeable. A flexible measuring tape is optional; comparing a garment you already own may be enough.

Choose the fit, not just the closest size label
Think about whether you want a fitted, regular, relaxed, or oversized look. Check the measurements against that preference: the closest chart match may suit a closer fit, while extra room may better suit a relaxed look. The Official Merch Report Store suggests considering a larger size for a relaxed or oversized fit, but that is seller guidance—not a universal rule. Check the exact item’s chart before sizing up.
Garment type and cut matter. A fitted tee, unisex shirt, and hoodie may have different proportions even when all use the same size label. Rally & Love, for example, provides separate adult T-shirt and sweatshirt/hoodie charts, as well as youth and toddler charts (size guide). Rapid Silk Screen Printing’s charts likewise show measurements by brand and style; its page was last updated April 29, 2026, and notes that measurements vary by brand and garment style (size charts and guides).

What if you are between sizes?
First decide which fit you prefer, then compare both available sizes against the garment you used as a reference. Pay particular attention to the dimensions that matter most for that item—often chest width and body length. If the chart still does not settle the choice, ask the seller for item-specific advice before checkout, especially if exchanges or returns may be limited. Return and exchange terms are store-specific, so check the actual seller’s policy.
Allow for a seller’s stated measurement tolerance if one is provided. Rally & Love’s undated size guide says its print-on-demand products may have slight size variations of ±1 inch; this is that seller’s stated allowance, not an industry-wide guarantee (size guide). Tolerances can differ: Dzeetee’s chart says its measurements are approximate and allows up to 0.5 inch due to its print-on-demand process (size chart). Check the chart for the product you are buying rather than applying either figure to another store.
