Hulu + Live TV does not provide a general setting for choosing any city’s local stations. Your local ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, and other affiliates are determined by your service territory, current device location, Home network, and the local broadcast market available at your address.
Change the Hulu + Live TV Home network only when you have genuinely moved or Hulu has assigned your real home network incorrectly. If you are traveling within the United States, use Hulu’s supported travel access instead of changing Home. Hulu and Hulu + Live TV are officially available only in the United States and certain U.S. territories, and Hulu’s current agreement prohibits technology used to obscure or disguise your location.
What “location” means on Hulu
“Your Hulu location” is not one universal setting. Several different systems can affect what you can watch:
- Service territory: Hulu and Hulu + Live TV are offered only in the United States and certain U.S. territories under Hulu’s current Subscriber Agreement. Hulu + Live TV is advertised for the 50 states and Washington, D.C.
- Current device location: Hulu may require location sharing on certain devices to determine whether live programming, local affiliates, or restricted events are available. Hulu does not necessarily use the same location method on every device.
- Home network: Hulu + Live TV associates your account with a residential, non-mobile internet network. This Home setting is part of Hulu’s rules for in-home and out-of-home access.
- Local broadcast market: Your market determines which affiliate represents a national network. For example, the ABC or FOX station shown in one city may not be the one shown in another.
A ZIP code, IP address, device permission, and Home network are related but not interchangeable. Entering a different ZIP code does not reliably override Hulu’s other location checks.

How to change your Hulu + Live TV Home network after moving
Use this process only after moving to a new permanent residence or when Hulu has associated the account with the wrong genuine home network. Hulu’s interface can change, so the labels may appear as Home, Home network, or a similar Live TV location control.
- Sign in to Hulu through the current web account-management interface.
- Open your Hulu + Live TV account or settings area.
- Find the Home or Home network control.
- Choose the option to set or change the Home network.
- Connect through your actual residential, non-mobile internet connection—not a hotspot, public Wi-Fi network, VPN, or proxy.
- Enter or confirm your real home address or ZIP code if Hulu requests it.
- Save the change, then restart Hulu on affected devices.
- Check the expected local lineup using Hulu’s Live TV channel-availability tool.
If Hulu refuses the update or continues showing the wrong market, stop repeatedly changing the setting and contact Hulu Support. Do not rely on the commonly repeated claim that Home can be changed exactly four times per year; that limit was not confirmed in the current official material.
How to get the correct local stations
Hulu’s local, regional, and national channel availability depends on your area and can change. Some channels may also be unavailable on particular devices. To correct a wrong local lineup:
- Connect the affected device to your real home Wi-Fi or wired residential network.
- Turn off VPNs, proxies, Smart DNS services, private relays, and similar location-obscuring tools.
- Enable Location Services if Hulu requests them.
- Allow Hulu to use your location while the app is running, where your device provides that permission.
- Restart Hulu and the device.
- Reboot your modem and router if your ISP recently changed your public IP address or service.
- Test Hulu in a web browser and in the app, if both are available.
- Use Hulu’s ZIP-code channel checker to compare the expected lineup with what you see.
If the ZIP code is correct but the affiliate remains wrong, the problem may be IP geolocation, an ISP address range, IPv6 or carrier-grade NAT mapping, a cellular connection, device permissions, or Hulu’s current location record. A manually entered ZIP code cannot override every location signal.

Can you change Hulu’s local market manually?
No supported Hulu setting lets you select New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, or another city simply to receive that market’s affiliates. Hulu’s Home network is tied to an actual residential connection and is not intended to be a free market selector.
Changing Home while visiting another city can associate the account with a temporary market and create problems when you return home. If you need a station from another city, check whether that station offers an authorized app or website, use an antenna if you are physically near the broadcast signal, or consider a legally available live-TV service in that market.
How to use Hulu while traveling within the United States
Traveling within the U.S. is different from permanently changing your Home network. Mobile-device access may work away from Home, but availability depends on the device, your subscription, Hulu’s location checks, local-market rights, and the program being watched.
Hulu’s current agreement says subscribers should access Hulu on a mobile device from their Home location every 30 days—or according to the period specified in Hulu’s Help Center—to maintain uninterrupted Live TV use. It also explains that the device’s location may determine access to individual events or local affiliates, while some networks, including regional sports networks, may depend on the Home location.

For a short trip:
- Keep the permanent Home network set to your real residence.
- Use a supported mobile device when traveling.
- Do not change Home merely because you are visiting another U.S. city.
- Expect local channels and live events to vary with your current location.
- Remember that blackouts and regional rights restrictions can apply even when Hulu correctly identifies you.
Can you watch Hulu outside the United States?
Not as an officially supported Hulu use case. Hulu’s current Subscriber Agreement states that Hulu and ESPN services are available only in the United States and certain U.S. territories. Hulu + Live TV’s product page describes availability in the 50 states and Washington, D.C.
The agreement also prohibits accessing the service from places where Hulu does not make it available and prohibits using technology or techniques to obscure or disguise your location. That means a VPN, proxy, Smart DNS service, residential IP, or router configuration should not be presented as a reliable or policy-compliant way to watch Hulu abroad.
A location-obscuring tool might appear to work temporarily, work on one device but not another, or fail when Hulu requests location verification. Temporary technical success does not make the method officially supported. For viewers outside the U.S., look instead for legally available local streaming services, broadcaster apps, network websites, or other services licensed in the viewer’s country.
Why are my Hulu local channels wrong?
Common causes include:
- Your ISP changed your public IP address or assigned an address range mapped to the wrong region.
- You changed internet providers.
- The device is using a mobile hotspot, cellular network, public Wi-Fi, or another unstable location source.
- Location Services are disabled or Hulu lacks permission to use them.
- A VPN, proxy, privacy relay, Smart DNS service, or similar tool is active.
- IPv6 or carrier-grade NAT is being geolocated incorrectly.
- You are traveling and Hulu is correctly showing the market associated with the device’s current location.
- The channel is unavailable in your ZIP code or on the device you are using.
- The program is subject to a regional restriction or blackout.
Hulu notes that channel availability varies by location and device. Its agreement also allows live programming, local affiliates, and sports access to be affected by location, rights availability, and blackouts. A missing channel during one game may therefore be a rights issue rather than a defective Home setting.

Local stations are primarily a Hulu + Live TV issue. A standard Hulu on-demand subscription does not provide the full Hulu + Live TV channel lineup.
Hulu + Live TV carries live local, regional, and national programming subject to market availability, blackouts, device restrictions, and location checks. Hulu’s Live TV page currently advertises more than 100 live channels, while warning that availability depends on area and that location data may be required. Plan features, channels, pricing, trials, and device support can change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose New York, Los Angeles, or another city’s local stations on Hulu?
No. Hulu does not offer a supported control for freely selecting another city’s local market. Its Home network should represent your actual residential connection.
Does changing my ZIP code change Hulu’s local stations?
Not necessarily. Hulu may also consider your Home network, current device location, permissions, and rights restrictions.
Can I use Hulu + Live TV on a mobile hotspot?
A hotspot may not identify a stable residential Home network and can produce location or Home-network errors. Use your actual residential connection for Home settings.
Why did my local stations change after switching ISPs?
Your new ISP’s IP address range may be mapped to a different region, or Hulu may need to reassess the Home network. Disable location-obscuring tools, reconnect at home, and contact Hulu if the market remains wrong.
Does a VPN change Hulu’s location?
A VPN may alter the apparent network location, but it does not officially change Hulu’s Home network or guarantee access. Hulu’s agreement prohibits technology used to obscure or disguise location.
Can I watch Hulu from Canada, Mexico, Europe, or elsewhere?
Hulu is not officially available outside the United States and certain U.S. territories under its current agreement. Do not treat a VPN or proxy as an approved workaround.
