On Android, open a song’s Lyrics view, tap Share, select up to five lines, choose a background, and save or share the finished card.
What YouTube Music’s lyrics-sharing feature does
This is not a tool for exporting an entire lyrics page or copying a complete song transcript. It creates a visual card containing a short excerpt from the lyrics, along with the song title, artist name, limited album artwork, and YouTube Music branding.
The original rollout report described a limit of up to five lyric lines. Selecting more than the supported number can reset the selection, so the feature is best suited to a memorable line, chorus fragment, or short quote rather than a full verse.

The card can be saved as an image or passed to compatible apps using Share with other apps. That image-sharing flow is separate from ordinary YouTube Music sharing, which sends a link for a song, album, playlist, or podcast. The available reports confirm the image-saving and app-sharing options, but do not establish identical link behavior in every destination app.
How to share lyrics on Android
- Open the YouTube Music app.
- Start playing a song that has lyrics available.
- Open the Now Playing screen.
- Switch to the Lyrics tab.
- Tap the Share button or the floating share button near the bottom of the lyrics view.
- On Select lyrics, tap the lines you want to include. The rollout reporting specified a maximum of five lines.
- Tap Next.
- Choose a background from the available options.
- Tap Save image to store the card, or choose Share with other apps to send it through a messaging or social app.
The June 2025 rollout report described 10 solid-color background choices. Labels and button positions can change as YouTube Music updates its interface, but the basic route is:
Now Playing → Lyrics → Share → Select lyrics → Next → background → Save image or Share with other apps

- Selected lyric lines
- The song title
- The artist’s name
- A small amount of album artwork, positioned toward the top-left in the reported design
- YouTube Music branding
- A selectable background
That makes the feature more useful for social posts and messages than a plain copied text snippet. It also means the result is a designed image, not an editable lyrics document.
AI-generated backgrounds are a later addition
Later reporting described an AI-generated background option for lyric cards on Android and iOS. In screenshots, the option is associated with a Gemini-style sparkle icon and appears alongside the original color choices.
This AI option should not be confused with the original 2025 launch. It has been reported as a later test or enhancement and may not appear for every account. YouTube also warns that generated images may not always follow its policies or match the song’s theme, so a generated background should be treated as decoration rather than an accurate visual interpretation of the track.

Is lyrics sharing available on iPhone?
The initial report focused on Android, but by June 17, 2025, coverage described lyrics sharing as rolling out on both Android and iOS. This article’s steps focus on Android because that was the platform named in the original rollout, and the exact controls can differ between the two apps.
Do you need YouTube Music Premium?
When the feature broadly rolled out, it was reported as available to both free and paid users. That does not make Premium an unconditional requirement for creating lyric cards.
However, Google later confirmed an experiment affecting repeated lyric access for a small percentage of ad-supported users. Android Authority reported that some free users were shown a limited number of lyric views before being prompted to subscribe. That experiment concerns access to the lyrics screen itself; it should not automatically be interpreted as a separate paywall on the sharing-card tool.
In practice, a user may be unable to share lyrics because their account cannot currently reach the lyrics view, even though lyrics sharing was originally available to free users. Availability can depend on the account, region, catalog, and active YouTube Music experiments.

Do not subscribe solely to obtain lyric-card sharing. Premium may be worthwhile for its broader benefits, such as ad-free listening, background playback, and downloads, but the original rollout did not make it a paid-only feature. Current subscription prices and eligibility can change.

A missing button does not necessarily mean the feature is broken. Work through these checks:
- Confirm the app. Make sure you are using YouTube Music, not the regular YouTube app.
- Update through Google Play. The broad 2025 rollout was associated with YouTube Music version 8.24, but that is a historical rollout detail, not a current version requirement. The Google Play listing has continued to receive updates, including an update shown on August 14, 2026.
- Try another song. The track may not have lyrics available, or its particular upload may lack the required lyrics metadata.
- Open Now Playing and check Lyrics. The current layout may place the tab or share control differently from older screenshots.
- Force-stop and relaunch YouTube Music. This was among the troubleshooting steps suggested during the rollout.
- Sign out and back in only if relaunching does not help.
Lyrics availability varies by song and can be affected by catalog coverage, licensing, metadata, and the specific version of a recording. There is no evidence that changing country settings, joining a beta program, or sideloading an APK reliably activates lyrics sharing, so those should not be treated as guaranteed fixes.

The official YouTube Music help page documents ordinary music and timestamp sharing, but it does not provide a dedicated, current procedure for lyric-card sharing.
Rollout timeline and version context
- April 21, 2025: lyrics sharing was reported in limited Android testing.
- June 17, 2025: wider Android and iOS availability was reported, with YouTube Music version 8.24 cited in the coverage.
- Later: AI-generated lyric-card backgrounds were reported as a test or added option on Android and iOS.
- August 14, 2026: the Google Play listing showed a later YouTube Music update, but did not identify a current version specifically required for lyrics sharing.
The original “starts rolling out” wording therefore describes a 2025 event, not a new Android rollout beginning in August 2026. Users may still see differences because Google enables features by account, region, server-side configuration, or experiment.

Bottom line
YouTube Music’s lyrics sharing is a lightweight way to turn a short lyric excerpt into a shareable image. On Android, use the Lyrics view’s Share control, select up to five lines, choose a background, and save or send the card. The main limitations are the short selection cap, song-by-song lyrics availability, account and region differences, and possible limits on lyric access for some ad-supported users.
