Cancel Apple Music at least 24 hours before your free trial expires to avoid automatic renewal. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Apple Music → Cancel Free Trial (or Cancel Subscription), then confirm. Apple may end access immediately when a free trial is canceled, so do not assume you will keep the remaining trial time.
Apple Music trials generally convert to a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel in time. Apple’s support guidance says to cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends; using a larger safety margin is wise. See Apple’s subscription-cancellation instructions and media-services terms.

Cancel Apple Music on an iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name or Apple ID banner at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Apple Music.
- Tap Cancel Free Trial or Cancel Subscription.
- Confirm the cancellation.
The 2021 iOS interface usually used “Cancel Free Trial.” The current interface commonly says “Cancel Subscription”; the route is otherwise similar.

macOS Catalina and later
- Open the App Store.
- Click your name in the sidebar and choose Account Settings.
- Scroll to Subscriptions and click Manage.
- Select Apple Music, click Cancel Subscription, and confirm.
Older macOS with iTunes
Open iTunes → Account → View My Account. In Settings, find Subscriptions, click Manage, select Apple Music, choose Edit, then Cancel Subscription. This is a legacy route and is not the normal method on current macOS.

Cancel on Windows
iTunes (the route many 2021 users had)
In iTunes, choose Account → View My Account → Settings → Subscriptions → Manage. Select Apple Music, click Edit, choose Cancel Subscription, and confirm.
Current Apple Music or Apple TV app
Open Apple Music or Apple TV, click the account name at the bottom of the sidebar, select View My Account, and scroll to Settings → Subscriptions → Manage. Choose Apple Music, click Edit, then Cancel Subscription.
Cancel on the web
At music.apple.com, sign in, open the account icon, choose Settings, scroll to Subscriptions, select Manage, and cancel Apple Music. Depending on your country and billing arrangement, Apple may instead direct you to account.apple.com.

Cancel on Android
First identify who bills the subscription:
- Google Play billing: cancel it in the Google Play app’s subscription-management screen or at play.google.com. Apple also provides applicable cancellation controls in the Android Apple Music app.
- Apple billing: use Apple’s account-management page at account.apple.com or the Apple Music account settings available to you.
Carrier, partner, and promotional subscriptions can have their own cancellation process. The billing company on your receipt or card statement is the best guide.
Verify that cancellation worked
Return to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Apple Music, or the equivalent account page. Look for:
- An expiration date instead of a next billing date.
- A red message stating that the subscription expires.
- No Cancel Subscription button.
- A cancellation email or receipt, if Apple sends one.
Apple says that no Cancel button or a red expiration message generally means the subscription is already canceled. Take a screenshot, especially if the expiration date is close.

Will Apple Music keep working after cancellation?
Not necessarily. Apple’s general support guidance says canceling during a free trial might end access immediately. Some promotional terms explicitly end access as soon as the trial is canceled. Canceling early stops the paid renewal, but the exact access behavior depends on the offer and account. Do not wait until the final 24 hours just to preserve access; that creates a real risk of missing the cancellation deadline.

What happens to downloads and playlists?
Apple Music catalog downloads are subscription content. When access ends, those tracks generally cannot be played as Apple Music content. Music purchased from the iTunes Store is different and remains owned by you.
After Apple Music expires, catalog songs and playlists that depend on those songs become unavailable, and Sync Library turns off. Apple says music and playlists that were already on the device before subscribing remain available. If a playlist matters, write down or export its track list before canceling; Apple’s exact behavior and labels may vary from the 2021 interfaces.

If Apple Music does not appear
- You may be signed in to the wrong Apple Account.
- A family member may have purchased the subscription.
- Google Play, a carrier, or another partner may be billing it.
- The trial may already be canceled.
- Apple Music may be included in Apple One rather than listed separately.
Search email for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple.” If there is no Apple receipt, check your bank or card statement for the billing company. With Apple One, you may need to change or cancel the Apple One plan instead of canceling Apple Music alone.
If you were charged
Canceling prevents future renewals; it does not automatically reverse a charge that has already posted. Request a review through Apple’s refund process or the billing support hub. Approval is decided by Apple and is not guaranteed.
If you canceled but were charged, gather the cancellation confirmation, screenshot of the expiration status, original trial receipt, transaction details, and Apple Account email. Possible explanations include canceling less than 24 hours before renewal, canceling the wrong account, third-party billing, an Apple One charge, or a delayed account-page update.
2021 interface note
The steps above preserve the iOS 14-era and iTunes instructions relevant to a 2021 trial while identifying current Apple routes. Menu names can differ by operating-system version, country, subscription offer, and billing source. The deadline and verification principles remain the important safeguards.
