Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo show a radio station’s changing song title on a YouTube live stream, get the station’s now-playing metadata and display it in an OBS scene before OBS sends the video to YouTube. For an Icecast station, the documented /status-json.xsl endpoint may expose the active mount’s current title. YouTube’s broadcast title is not a substitute: it describes the broadcast, while the song label must be part of the on-screen video.
What you need
The setup has two connected parts: a feed that provides the station’s changing track information, and an OBS scene element that renders that information for viewers. The audio stream and the metadata feed are separate; having the station’s audio URL alone does not guarantee access to its current song title.
- A documented now-playing API, feed, or other supported metadata interface from the station or its hosting provider.
- An OBS text source, browser source, or compatible plugin to display the title.
- A test at a track change to confirm that the displayed value updates and is readable in the finished scene.
Find the station’s now-playing metadata
Ask which streaming platform it uses
Ask the station operator or host whether the stream uses Icecast, SHOUTcast, or a managed service. Request its public now-playing endpoint or supported metadata interface. The exact URL and data fields depend on the station’s service and configuration.
For Icecast, check the status JSON endpoint
Icecast documents a machine-readable /status-json.xsl endpoint. Try that path on the station’s host, then inspect the JSON for the active mount and a title field. Depending on the feed, the value may combine artist and track title. Icecast cautions that fields are not always present, so confirm that the active stream supplies a title and that it changes when tracks change. See the Icecast documentation.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not build an integration by scraping the station’s human-facing status page. Icecast says it discourages scraping its web interface because it is not an API and may change between versions. If the station does not use Icecast, request its documented feed rather than assuming a web player page is a stable data source.
Choose how OBS will display the title
| Method | How it works | Best fit and caveats |
|---|---|---|
| Browser overlay | A small overlay page periodically fetches the station’s metadata and displays the current title in an OBS browser source. | Useful when the endpoint allows browser requests. If it blocks cross-origin requests (CORS), a local helper or server-side proxy may be needed. Do not put private station credentials in a public overlay URL. |
| Local helper and text file | A helper polls the metadata feed and writes the latest title to a local text file; an OBS text source reads that file. | Useful when browser access is blocked or you want the metadata polling separate from the browser source. The helper must keep running and handle missing or stale titles sensibly. |
| OBS Tuna plugin | The plugin reads metadata from supported media sources and exposes it for display in OBS. | Consider it only if the radio audio is played through a supported source such as VLC or MPD in the streaming setup. Its listing specifies OBS 28.0.0 minimum and Windows/Linux support; check the listing for current compatibility and supported sources before installing: OBS Tuna. |
| Music on stream browser resource | An OBS browser overlay for listed music services and title sources. | Its listing reports support for YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Deezer, Pretzel, and Epidemic Sound, with title sources including YouTube chapters and description playlists. It does not establish support for an arbitrary radio station metadata endpoint: Music on stream. |
Set up and test the OBS overlay
- Confirm the metadata first. Open the documented feed or run your helper and verify that it identifies the correct active mount and returns the current title. Note how an absent title is represented so your overlay can avoid showing a broken value.
- Connect the feed to OBS. For a browser overlay, add the overlay page as an OBS browser source. For a file-based method, configure the local helper to poll the feed and write the title to a text file, then add an OBS text source configured to read that file. Exact OBS labels and options can vary by version and operating system.
- Add it to the outgoing scene. In OBS, place the browser or text source in the scene used for the YouTube broadcast. Position and format it so it remains legible against the video; preview the complete composition rather than judging the text alone.
- Check refresh and failure behavior. Leave the preview running through a track change. Confirm the title updates, and decide what should appear if the endpoint is unavailable or the station has not published a title. A useful overlay should not imply a new song when its data is stale.
- Go live using your existing OBS-to-YouTube workflow. The OBS output carries the visible overlay. YouTube’s broadcast and video resources have their own broadcast metadata; changing that metadata does not itself draw a changing song label into the picture. See the YouTube Live Broadcasts documentation.
Protect access and keep the display reliable
- Endpoint is private or unavailable: ask the operator for authorized access or a public feed. Do not expose credentials in a browser source URL or public overlay page.
- No title field appears: the station may not publish track metadata, or the active mount may not include it. Ask the operator to expose a supported now-playing feed; OBS cannot infer a title from the audio reliably.
- Browser source cannot read the endpoint: the endpoint may disallow cross-origin requests. Use a local helper or properly configured server-side proxy rather than scraping the station’s status page.
- Text does not change: check whether the feed itself updates, whether the helper is still running, whether the browser overlay refreshes its data, and whether OBS is showing the intended source and scene.
- You operate the Icecast station: Icecast documents an administrative metadata-update function for changing mountpoint metadata. It is not a public read endpoint; use it only with proper authorization and protect its credentials. See the Icecast documentation.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel built around uploaded recordings or playlists, StreamNeo can keep the video playing without an OBS computer or home connection left on. It is separate from the metadata-overlay workflow above: StreamNeo plays uploaded videos, not a live camera or a radio station feed, so it is not a way to fetch a station’s changing now-playing data.
