How Much Does a 24/7 YouTube Stream Cost on an Indian VPS?

In the Indian VPS examples reviewed on October 3, 2026, advertised starting prices are ₹880 per month from Inservers and ₹930 per month from CloudPe. Those are provider-listed base prices, not guaranteed all-in costs or proof that a particular server can encode your stream. The biggest variable beyond the VM fee is outbound data: a continuously running HD stream can send several terabytes in a 30-day month. Check the transfer allowance or egress terms, taxes, renewal price, and server capacity before buying.

What an Indian VPS might cost

These are two published examples, not a market-wide average. Both providers’ prices and terms can change; confirm them at checkout.

Provider Published price or plan Bandwidth terms stated by provider What to verify
Inservers Starting at ₹880/month for its streaming VPS line The provider says its plans include 1 Gbps unmetered bandwidth with no per-GB overage charges. Which exact plan the starting price buys, its CPU resources, applicable taxes, billing and renewal terms, and whether the bandwidth conditions suit your workload.
CloudPe ₹930/month for a listed configuration with 4 GB RAM and 30 GB NVMe The provider claims zero egress fees. Current plan details, taxes, billing conditions, and what the egress claim covers.

Inservers says its datacenter is in New Delhi, but location alone does not establish the route quality or latency from that server to YouTube’s ingestion endpoint. Neither listed price is an independent performance test or a guarantee that the plan can encode a specific video at a particular resolution.

How much outbound data a continuous stream uses

A constant-bitrate stream running for 30 days sends approximately bitrate in Mbps × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000,000,000 terabytes of video data. This decimal-TB calculation excludes protocol overhead and variation in bitrate, so actual transfer can be higher.

Video setting YouTube H.264 recommended bitrate Approximate outbound data over 30 days
720p30 5 Mbps About 1.62 TB, calculated from the bitrate
720p60 8 Mbps About 2.59 TB, calculated from the bitrate
1080p30 14 Mbps About 4.54 TB, calculated from the bitrate
1080p60 17 Mbps About 5.51 TB, calculated from the bitrate
1440p30 21 Mbps About 6.80 TB, calculated from the bitrate
1440p60 34 Mbps About 11.02 TB, calculated from the bitrate
4K30 42 Mbps About 13.61 TB, calculated from the bitrate
4K60 50 Mbps About 16.20 TB, calculated from the bitrate

Recommended H.264 bitrates are from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. The transfer amounts are arithmetic estimates for a constant bitrate over 30 days, not provider measurements. A metered plan with a 1 TB allowance could incur overages or throttling well before the month ends. For two simultaneous output destinations, count a separate outbound copy for each destination.

What determines the real monthly bill

  • Base rental: Compare the recurring price with the renewal price, billing period, and applicable taxes. The ₹880 and ₹930 examples above are advertised figures checked October 3, 2026, not guaranteed all-in bills.
  • Transfer and egress: A low VM price may be poor value if the included transfer is small or excess data is charged. Get the allowance and overage or throttling policy in writing; distinguish metered bandwidth from an unmetered claim or a zero-egress-fee claim.
  • Compute for the actual workflow: Software encoding uses CPU; relaying an already encoded feed has a different compute profile. There is no universally established CPU/RAM configuration for every video and codec here. Ask the host for a workload-specific recommendation or test the intended settings.
  • Operations: Include your own time or tools for installation, monitoring, restarts, and YouTube session handling. Renting a server does not by itself guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
  • Route and location: Treat a provider’s stated Indian datacenter location as a location claim, not evidence of measured latency or a stable route to YouTube.

Configure bitrate and encoder settings to estimate bandwidth

Use YouTube’s recommendations as a planning reference, not a requirement to stream at the maximum quality. YouTube says the encoder should use settings supported by a reliable upload connection and advises testing before going live. Its current guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video codecs, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport and transcodes incoming streams into multiple output formats. See YouTube’s encoder settings.

  1. Choose the output resolution and frame rate that match the source and the quality you intend to deliver. Use the H.264 bitrate reference in the table above to estimate transfer; do not assume a higher setting improves a source that was made at lower quality.
  2. Set the encoder to CBR and use a two-second keyframe interval, keeping it at four seconds or less, according to YouTube’s current guidance.
  3. Use RTMPS where supported for encrypted transport. In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder or relay as directed by YouTube’s encoder workflow.
  4. Test before the scheduled broadcast and check the incoming stream in Live Control Room. Confirm the server can sustain the selected encoding mode and that the host’s transfer terms cover the projected monthly traffic.

Plan for YouTube’s session limit in a 24/7 setup

YouTube states that streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 channel therefore needs an operational plan for ending and restarting sessions or automating session handling; a VPS alone does not remove this requirement. Follow YouTube’s encoder workflow and verify current Live Control Room behavior for your setup.

Questions to ask a VPS provider before paying

  • What exact plan does the advertised starting price buy, and what are the renewal price, billing period, and taxes?
  • How much outbound transfer is included? Is it metered, unmetered, or subject to a fair-use policy? What happens at the limit: overage billing, throttling, or suspension?
  • Does the listed egress policy cover traffic to YouTube’s ingestion servers, and are there other network or port restrictions?
  • What CPU and RAM does the plan provide, and does the provider recommend it for your codec, resolution, frame rate, and encoding method?
  • Where is the server located, and can you test the actual route and stream stability before committing?
  • What support is available if the encoder stops, the server restarts, or the YouTube session ends?

Troubleshooting a cost estimate or stream plan

  • The quote looks unusually low: Check transfer caps, overage charges, taxes, renewal pricing, and whether the advertised amount applies only to a particular configuration.
  • The stream uses more data than expected: Recalculate using the actual bitrate and run time. Include protocol overhead, bitrate variation, and a separate copy for every simultaneous destination.
  • The server struggles to encode: Encoding load depends on the chosen video, codec, frame rate, and software settings. Ask the provider for a workload-specific recommendation or test the intended stream; the listed starting price does not establish sufficient CPU capacity.
  • YouTube ends or archives a session: Check the Live Control Room and encoder workflow, then account for session restart handling. Streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived under YouTube’s stated rule.
  • The server is in India but the stream is unstable: A stated datacenter location does not prove a good route to YouTube. Test the actual connection and ask the provider about network troubleshooting.
