Google’s Gemini “New Home” Super Bowl ad shows a family turning an empty house into a home

Google’s 60-second Gemini commercial, “New Home,” premiered online on February 5, 2026, and aired as a national in-game advertisement during Super Bowl LX on February 8. The spot follows a mother and son using Gemini, Google Photos memories, and AI image editing to make an unfamiliar house feel like home.

Google’s official “New Home” Gemini commercial. An accessible audio-described version is available through the official video listing.

What happens in “New Home”

The commercial opens with a mother and her son looking at photographs of their new, still-empty house. The child appears unsure about the move and the unfamiliar rooms. Rather than presenting Gemini through technical jargon, Google frames it as a way to make the transition less intimidating.

The mother uses Gemini to retrieve photos of the house from Google Photos. The family then asks Gemini to visualize the son’s belongings in his future bedroom, changes the room’s wall color, and guides image edits with text and drawing or annotation. Later, they ask Gemini to surface photos connected with what they planted in the garden.

As the empty rooms fill with familiar objects and memories, the house becomes emotionally recognizable to the child. The end card reads, “A new kind of help from Google,” followed by “Google Gemini: Get Google’s AI app.” The song is identified by iSpot as “Feels Like Home,” performed by Randy Newman.

Contemporaneous coverage reported prompt concepts including “pull up photos of our new house in Glenville,” “fill this empty room with Ben’s stuff,” “make the walls blue,” and “show me photos of what we planted in our garden.” These are prompts shown or reported in connection with the advertisement, not guaranteed instructions that will work identically for every Gemini user.

Which Gemini features does the ad demonstrate?

Google Photos retrieval

The house and garden scenes are designed to show Gemini working with a user’s connected Google Photos library. That requires relevant images to exist in Google Photos and the appropriate account connection and permissions to be available. Gemini cannot be assumed to search every Google service or file automatically.

AI room visualization and editing

Gemini generates visual ideas for furniture, belongings, paint colors, and other room changes. Google discusses the image-editing technology shown in the campaign using the names Nano Banana and Nano Banana Pro. Nano Banana is the image-generation and editing technology described by Google; it is not a separate consumer app being launched under the name “New Home.”

The results are visual concepts, not architectural renderings, measured floor plans, construction specifications, product guarantees, or safety recommendations. Image models can change details that were not meant to change, misrepresent proportions, or produce furniture and materials that do not exist as shown.

Drawing-guided changes

The advertisement also shows the family drawing or annotating an image to indicate an intended edit. This can help communicate the area or object to change, but it should not be treated as pixel-perfect control.

Personal memories as context

The garden prompt gives the commercial its emotional center: Gemini is shown retrieving and reusing the family’s own information rather than creating an entirely generic image. That convenience comes with a trade-off. Photos may include children, addresses, documents, and other sensitive details, so users should review connected services, permissions, and current privacy controls before enabling integrations.

Is “New Home” a new Gemini product?

No. “New Home” is the title of Google’s advertising campaign. The product promoted is the Gemini app and web service, with connected Google-service and image-generation capabilities. It is not a separate app, subscription, device, or “Gemini for Home” product.

Can everyone use the features shown?

Not necessarily. Access can vary by Google account, country, language, age, device, app version, rollout status, connected-service permissions, and usage limits. Free and paid plans may also provide different levels of access. Google’s current plan comparison and AI plan details should be treated as the source of current pricing, names, limits, and availability; those details can change.

Before trying to recreate the commercial, readers need a Google account, Gemini access, relevant photos in Google Photos, and an account and region that support the relevant integration. If Gemini cannot find a photo, check the active Google account, confirm the image is in Google Photos, use a more specific date, location, or album description, and check permissions. If the feature is unavailable, uploading an image directly may be an alternative where supported.

If a generated room looks wrong, state what must remain unchanged, identify the exact area to edit, use a shorter prompt, and make one change at a time. Even then, use the result as a mood board rather than a precise design plan.

Why Google chose this story

Google’s announcement presents Gemini as practical help for everyday tasks such as exploring ideas and creating images. “New Home” turns those capabilities into a family story about relocation, uncertainty, memory, and belonging. The message is less “look at the model’s benchmark” and more “use an assistant that understands the context already present in your Google account.”

That is also where the advertisement’s promise needs the most qualification. It is a polished brand narrative, not a complete product tutorial or independent test of Gemini’s accuracy. Connected photos may not be available to every account, and generated images cannot confirm measurements, costs, compatibility, lighting, structural feasibility, or the final appearance of real materials.

What to use instead—or alongside Gemini

  • Google Photos may be the better choice for users who mainly want photo search, organization, and editing.
  • A dedicated interior-design or visualization service may be more suitable for dimensions, catalogs, floor plans, and purchasable furniture.
  • A human designer or retailer visualization service is preferable for expensive renovations and purchase-ready plans.
  • Privacy-conscious users can use Gemini for generic brainstorming without connecting their Google Photos library.

For most people curious about the commercial, the sensible path is to try Gemini first and subscribe only if higher limits, storage, or bundled Google benefits justify the cost. Paying for a plan does not guarantee that every feature shown in the advertisement is available in every country or account.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
