Jackson said the cross-country commute between Los Angeles and his Tennessee home could not be sustained alongside family life.
When did Jonathan Jackson leave General Hospital?
Jackson’s latest departure was reported on June 5, 2025, with his exit expected the following week. His final episode as Lucky in this run aired June 11, 2025, about nine months after his August 2024 return. TV Insider reported the departure and later identified June 11 as his final episode date.
Why did Jackson leave?
Jackson said the shorter-than-hoped-for run was not the plan. He told TV Insider, “The hope was to be able to stay on longer.” He explained that traveling between his home in Tennessee and the show’s workplace in Los Angeles did not fit with his family life. “We gave it our best shot, but we weren’t able to keep it going,” he said. This was Jackson’s explanation, not a statement of the network’s position. TV Insider’s interview with Jackson includes his comments.
How did Lucky leave Port Charles?
Lucky’s fictional departure followed the end of his relationship with Elizabeth Webber. Elizabeth turned down his marriage proposal, and the two acknowledged that they wanted different things before saying goodbye. Lucky then left Port Charles with his son, Aiden, planning to travel in Europe. He had also said goodbye to his sister Lulu and his mother, Laura. The storyline gave Lucky a reason to be away without closing off the possibility of a future visit.

Is Lucky Spencer coming back?
No return was confirmed in the cited coverage. Executive producer Frank Valentini said, “We wish him nothing but the best, and the door is always open for Jonathan to return.” That expresses an invitation, not a production announcement or scheduled appearance.
In an October 2025 interview, Jackson said he would be honored to return if the show invited him to take part in a possible memorial story for Denise Alexander’s Dr. Lesley Webber. “Oh, yeah. I’d be honored,” he said. His willingness was conditional on the show developing that story and asking him; it did not confirm a return or air date. TV Insider reported Jackson’s comments about the possible memorial.
