The Kansas locations connect her story in France with her mission among Potawatomi people—and with the history of forced removal that shaped that mission.
What is the documentary about?
The film follows Duchesne through a France–United States lens. Its project page says the narration draws on her original letters, while landscapes in Isère, France, and the United States provide a visual thread. Cassen told The Leaven, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, that the transatlantic connection matters because it helps tell the human story.
The campaign page names historian Catherine Marin, author Christine Delmar, and Joseph Rupnick, chairman of the Tribal Council of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, among the contributors. Those are credits and descriptions presented by the project, not independently confirmed final credits.
Where did the crew film in Kansas?
According to The Leaven’s October 10, 2026 report, the crew visited three sites or people connected to Duchesne’s Kansas story:

The Centerville park commemorates a burial ground for more than 600 Potawatomi, according to The Leaven’s photo caption. That figure is the newspaper’s report; it should not be treated as an independently verified count.
Why does the Kansas chapter need historical context?
Duchesne’s mission in Kansas took place amid the forced removal of Potawatomi people. The Leaven’s caption describes the Trail of Death as a 660-mile forced walk from Michigan to Sugar Creek Mission in Kansas that lasted two months and caused more than 40 deaths, mostly children. These figures are reported by the newspaper and are attributed to its account.

A Sacred Heart province biography says Duchesne went to Sugar Creek in 1841, aged 72, with three other sisters to establish a school for Potawatomi girls. It says she was unable to learn the language, spent much time in prayer, and returned to St. Charles after about a year for health reasons. Her religious work should be understood alongside the coercive removal and colonial conditions surrounding the mission, rather than as a story of individual devotion alone.
Cassen acknowledged that difficult setting in comments reported by The Leaven: “It was a hard time when she came here to America. There was slavery. The Trail of Death.” The film’s campaign page also says contributors will address political and cultural context, including contradictions involving slavery and colonial tensions.

What is the film’s production status?
The CredoFunding campaign page says filming is complete and the project is in post-production. It lists editing, sound mixing, color grading, credits, and preparation of the final version as intended uses for its €8,000 fundraising goal. When the page was accessed on October 11, 2026, it displayed €150 pledged and an end date of November 20, 2026; fundraising totals and deadlines can change.
The campaign advertises VOD access as a reward for donations of €50 or more. That is a campaign offer, not confirmation of a public streaming release. The available project information does not establish a distributor, release date, or scheduled public screening.

What can viewers expect from its approach?
The project’s stated method combines Duchesne’s letters with landscapes on both sides of the Atlantic, while its Kansas filming brings the story to sites tied to her mission and to Potawatomi history. The central challenge is to hold these strands together: a religious figure’s life, her own words, and the experiences of the Native people encountered by the mission. The campaign’s stated intention to address slavery and colonial tensions signals that the film aims to include, rather than sidestep, those contradictions.
Cassen’s assistant Xiaohan Lin described the archival work as a way to keep history present: “Archives are the guardians of history,” Lin said. “What we are doing is like a rebirth of history, giving it a second life to let the [viewers of the documentary] know something which is important and to not forget. “We are keeping the history alive.” The bracketed wording and punctuation follow the published account.
