Fall TV shows 2024 brought a broad U.S. broadcast-season slate across ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and The CW, with new series such as Brilliant Minds, High Potential, Doctor Odyssey, Matlock, Rescue: HI-Surf, Murder in a Small Town, Universal Basic Guys, and Trivial Pursuit alongside returning franchises. The “77” is this guide’s framing, not a verified industry count.
The season was historical rather than predictive: premiere dates were fixed in 2024, but current streaming availability may have changed. This guide separates new series, returning seasons, broadcast debuts, specials, formats, networks, and access methods so readers can understand both what arrived and how the schedule was organized.

- Major new fall TV shows 2024 included NBC’s Brilliant Minds, ABC’s High Potential and Doctor Odyssey, CBS’s Matlock, FOX’s Rescue: HI-Surf, Murder in a Small Town, and Universal Basic Guys, and The CW’s Trivial Pursuit.
- High Potential had a series premiere on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 10/9c, while other fall launches were spread across September, October, and November.
- Returning fall programming remained central, including The Voice, The Masked Singer, The Floor, the Chicago dramas, and Law & Order programming.
- The number 77 is this article’s framing from the supplied title, not an independently verified industry count; the original 77-title enumeration was not available in the research record.
What changed after the 2023 Hollywood strikes?
The 2024–25 television cycle offered a noticeably fuller new-show conversation after the writers’ and actors’ strikes disrupted the previous season. TV Guide writer Tim Surette summarized that contrast this way:
“Last year, the actors and writers strikes for fair wages dried up the usual flow of new series, but the 2024 fall TV season is overflowing with fresh shows.”

— Tim Surette, TV Guide writer, in TV Guide’s 2024 fall new-show guide.
The important qualification is that “overflowing” describes the season’s editorial impression, not a measured count of how many more shows premiered. The practical result for viewers was a schedule with several recognizable new scripted anchors alongside returning franchises, reality competitions, game shows, animation, sports-entertainment, news, and sports.
Which new fall TV shows 2024 titles mattered most?
The strongest starting shortlist included eight new or newly scheduled titles across the five broadcast networks. The shortlist is not a claim that these were objectively the best shows; it identifies the programs most prominently supported by the network announcements and fall premiere guides from the period, including TV Insider’s fall 2024 premiere-date guide.
| Series | Status | Network | Premiere information | Format or genre | Original U.S. schedule access |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brilliant Minds | New series | NBC | September 2024 launch cycle | Medical drama | NBC broadcast schedule |
| High Potential | New series | ABC | Series premiere: Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 10/9c | Scripted drama | ABC broadcast schedule |
| Doctor Odyssey | New series | ABC | Fall 2024; exact date is not specified in the supplied evidence | New drama | ABC broadcast schedule |
| Matlock | New series | CBS | Fall 2024; exact date is not specified in the supplied evidence | New series; format not specified in the supplied evidence | CBS broadcast schedule |

| Trivial Pursuit | New game show | The CW | Included in the 2024–25 schedule; exact date is not specified in the supplied evidence | Game show | The CW broadcast schedule |
The table separates an original network schedule from current streaming availability. A show’s 2024 broadcast placement does not establish where the show can be streamed in 2026, and the supplied evidence does not verify title-by-title streaming rights.

Fall TV shows in 2024 did not share one universal start date: the major premiere guides placed launches across September, October, and November. High Potential is the clearest date-specific example, with ABC announcing its series premiere for Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 10/9c in its official series announcement.
Premiere terminology also matters. A series premiere introduces a brand-new program; a season premiere brings back an existing series; a broadcast debut may move a title from cable or streaming to a broadcast network; and a special preview may not represent the show’s regular weekly time slot. The CW’s 2024–25 announcement, for example, included the broadcast debut of WWE NXT and the final season of Superman & Lois, which belong to different status categories from a brand-new series.
For an exact date, time, and local channel, viewers should use the network’s schedule or a dated premiere guide rather than treating “fall 2024” as a specific launch day. The schedule evidence supports the broad September-to-November pattern, but the supplied record does not provide every title’s exact date.
What did ABC offer in fall 2024?
ABC paired unscripted franchise programming with new scripted dramas. The network highlighted The Golden Bachelorette, High Potential, and Doctor Odyssey in its fall 2024–2025 primetime schedule announcement.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →That mix is useful for understanding the season: “fall TV” was not limited to prestige or serialized drama. Viewers looking for relationship-focused reality programming could start with The Golden Bachelorette; viewers seeking new scripted fare had High Potential and Doctor Odyssey. ABC separately announced the September 17 premiere time for High Potential, making that title easier to place precisely than the other ABC programs in the supplied research.
What did CBS offer in fall 2024?
CBS centered its fall schedule on Matlock as a major new title while retaining the familiar procedural, drama, and comedy ecosystem associated with the network. The broader schedule is documented in TVLine’s network-by-network fall grid.
The retrospective performance note is separate from the preseason schedule. Paramount Global’s Q4 2024 earnings release, published February 27, 2025, described Matlock as the number-one new series in CBS’s fall 2024 slate and described Tracker as the most-watched series on television for the relevant reporting period. Those are later company-reported performance descriptions, not predictions made before the season began; see Paramount Global’s Q4 2024 earnings release.
What did NBC offer in fall 2024?
NBC combined the new medical drama Brilliant Minds with returning franchises including The Voice, the Chicago dramas, and Law & Order programming. NBC’s premiere guide and the season-wide listings from TV Insider make the network’s strategy clear: one prominent new scripted anchor surrounded by highly familiar brands.

For viewers choosing by familiarity, NBC was therefore a straightforward starting point. A viewer could sample a new medical drama without giving up established procedural and competition franchises. The exact returning list should be checked against the intended full inventory because delayed launches, specials, midseason programs, and streaming or cable entries do not all belong to the same scheduling category.
What did FOX offer in fall 2024?
FOX mixed scripted genre programming with animation and unscripted competition. The network’s official announcement highlighted the premieres of Rescue: HI-Surf, Murder in a Small Town, and the animated comedy Universal Basic Guys, while also promoting returning programs including The Masked Singer and The Floor; the details appear in FOX’s fall 2024 premiere announcement.

The CW used a different programming strategy from ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX, combining acquired programming, unscripted shows, sports-entertainment, and a limited amount of original programming. The network’s official 2024–25 seven-night schedule announcement included the new game show Trivial Pursuit, the broadcast debut of WWE NXT, and the final season of Superman & Lois.

The CW should therefore be read on its own terms rather than as a smaller version of the other four broadcast networks. “New,” “returning,” “broadcast debut,” and “final season” describe different viewer expectations, even when all four programs appear in the same fall schedule conversation.
What TV shows are coming back in fall 2024?
Returning fall TV shows in 2024 included major reality franchises and familiar scripted brands, especially The Voice, The Masked Singer, The Floor, the Chicago dramas, and Law & Order programming. These returning titles supplied continuity while the networks introduced new series.
| Returning program or group | Network | Format | Why it mattered to the fall schedule |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Voice | NBC | Reality competition | Established competition franchise |
| The Masked Singer | FOX | Reality competition | Returning unscripted franchise |
| The Floor | FOX | Competition show | Returning game and competition brand |
| Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. | NBC | Scripted drama franchise | Returning three-show network cluster |
| Law & Order programming | NBC | Scripted procedural programming | Established crime and courtroom franchise presence |
This is a representative returning-show shortlist, not a certified complete list of every returning title in the 77-series framing. Programs with delayed, special, midseason, cable, or streaming launches should be classified separately before publication in a complete inventory.
What should I watch this fall?
There is no evidence-based way to declare one 2024 fall show the universal best choice, but the slate supports a practical mood-based starting guide.

- For a new ABC drama: Try High Potential or Doctor Odyssey; High Potential is the easier title to place because ABC supplied its September 17 premiere date and 10/9c time.
- For action: FOX’s Rescue: HI-Surf was promoted as a fall action drama.
- For mystery: FOX’s Murder in a Small Town was promoted as a mystery drama.
- For animation and comedy: FOX’s Universal Basic Guys was the new animated-comedy option in the shortlist.
- For a quiz or game show: The CW’s Trivial Pursuit was the new game-show entry.
- For familiar unscripted viewing: The Voice, The Masked Singer, and The Floor represented established competition franchises, while ABC’s The Golden Bachelorette represented the season’s relationship-focused reality programming.
Where can I watch the new fall shows?
The original U.S. access point for the foregrounded new titles was the broadcast network named in the table: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, or The CW. That usually means a local affiliate, an eligible live-TV service, or an over-the-air broadcast, but the 2024 schedule does not by itself establish a show’s current streaming home.
Current availability must be checked title by title because rights, subscription requirements, geography, and release windows can change. A 2024 premiere-date guide answers when a program entered the schedule; it does not guarantee that the program remains on a particular service in 2026. The supplied research identifies the need for a streaming comparison but does not verify current platform availability for these titles.
A compatible streaming device for your TV can make network and service apps easier to access, but a device does not provide every program. App compatibility, subscriptions, regional rights, and the difference between a live broadcast and an on-demand episode still determine what a viewer can watch.
How can you watch broadcast TV without cable?
An indoor HDTV antenna is a legitimate option for viewers who want local ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, or The CW broadcasts without a cable subscription. Reception varies by location, building materials, terrain, antenna placement, and the strength of nearby signals, so an antenna is not a universal solution and is not needed for every cable or streaming title.
Viewers who need more reliable access to several local affiliates can compare a live-TV streaming service, but the correct choice depends on local channel availability and the service’s current lineup. Neither an antenna nor a streaming device should be described as a bundle that automatically includes every fall show.
How should you interpret the 77-series framing?
The phrase “77 new and returning series” should be treated as the article’s organizing frame, not as an independently verified industry statistic. The supplied research record did not recover the original enumeration that would allow every title, status, premiere type, and access method to be audited.
The defensible editorial approach is to preserve the title’s 77-series intent while labeling the number honestly, foregrounding the eight supported new-show candidates, and identifying the major returning franchises. A complete 77-title version would need a recovered source list and a title-by-title verification pass for new versus returning status, premiere date, network or platform, format, and current availability.
Bottom line
For U.S. viewers, fall TV shows 2024 offered a broader post-strike mix of new dramas, animation, game shows, reality programming, and returning franchises across ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and The CW. The best entry point depends on mood and familiarity: sample the new titles such as Brilliant Minds, High Potential, or Matlock, or return to established brands such as The Voice, The Chicago dramas, and The Masked Singer. Treat the 77 figure as a framing label, and verify current viewing access separately from the historical 2024 premiere schedule.
The Bottom Line
Fall TV shows 2024 combined a fuller post-strike supply of new programming with returning broadcast franchises. Use the network and premiere information as a historical U.S. schedule guide, but verify current streaming rights separately and treat the 77-title count as framing rather than an independently audited statistic.
