Spoilers for the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, also known during production as Deadpool 3. Chris Evans returns as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch—not Captain America—and that role-switch joke is just one of several callbacks to Marvel’s former Fox films. The movie also brings back Blade, Elektra and X-23, gathers exiled characters in the Void, and introduces a crowd of Deadpool variants. There is no single settled cameo count: lists differ on whether they include variants, brief glimpses, archival footage and credits scenes.
The major legacy-role cameos
The film’s most recognizable guest appearances draw on Marvel characters previously played by the same actors in Fox-era films. Their roles and screen time vary: some take part in substantial scenes, while others are brief surprises.

Chris Evans as Johnny Storm
Evans plays Johnny Storm, the Human Torch from Fox’s Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). He is not playing Steve Rogers/Captain America here. The joke works because the audience knows Evans from both roles, but this appearance belongs to the earlier Fantastic Four films.
Wesley Snipes as Blade
Snipes reprises the vampire hunter he played in the Blade trilogy. His appearance connects Deadpool & Wolverine to a separate strand of Marvel film history, rather than to the MCU’s central Avengers storyline.

- Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake yet. His days as Deadpool behind him, a listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. But when his homeworld is threatened, he reluctantly suits up as he tries to convince Wolverine? oh hell, just watch. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Jennifer Garner as Elektra
Garner returns as Elektra, her character from Daredevil (2003) and Elektra (2005). The film folds her past into the characters’ banter as well as its broader gathering of familiar faces.
Channing Tatum as Gambit
Tatum appears as Gambit, a role he had been attached to for a long-developed solo-film effort that was never produced. This is his chance to play the character on screen; it is not evidence that the previously announced solo project was made.

Dafne Keen as Laura/X-23
Keen reprises Laura, also known as X-23, the young mutant she played in Logan (2017). In this film she is among the Void survivors, giving her return a role in the present story rather than limiting it to a passing reference.
Henry Cavill as a Wolverine variant
Cavill appears as a Wolverine variant in a brief multiverse gag. It is a cameo, not an announcement that he is replacing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

The Void’s returning characters and the wider cast
The Void lets the film bring together characters from different Marvel film lineages. Some help form the resistance group there; others appear briefly or in supporting roles. The distinction matters: a name on a cameo list does not mean every character receives an equally substantial scene.
Void survivors and returning villains
- Laura/X-23 returns from Logan as one of the Void survivors.
- Pyro (Aaron Stanford) and Sabretooth (Tyler Mane) return from the Fox X-Men films.
- Lady Deathstrike (Kelly Hu), Toad, Azazel and Juggernaut are also identified among the returning villains. Their appearances range in scale; the film does not give all of them the same kind of extended scene.
- Callisto and Psylocke are included in expanded cameo guides, alongside members of the Void resistance. These lists count brief or background appearances as well as more prominent roles.
TVA and MCU connections
- Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) appears in a connection to the MCU.
- Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) represents the TVA side of the story.
- Thor (Chris Hemsworth) appears through repurposed footage, and there is also a brief glimpse of Hulk.
Deadpool’s familiar friends
Several supporting characters from the earlier Deadpool films return: Peter (Rob Delaney), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Colossus (Stefan Kapičić), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), Dopinder (Karan Soni) and Blind Al (Leslie Uggams). Their appearances continue the original films’ ensemble rather than functioning as new multiverse reveals.

Deadpool variants and quick sightings
The Deadpool Corps is a separate category from returning legacy characters: these are alternate versions of Deadpool. TheWrap and Sideshow identify Lady Deadpool, also called Ladypool, whose voice is Blake Lively’s, and Cowboy Deadpool, voiced by Matthew McConaughey. The group also includes Kidpool, Headpool, Babypool, Welshpool, Watari, Zenpool and Peterpool, with Dogpool among the variants. Peggy plays Dogpool.
Some variants are quick visual or vocal appearances rather than full character arcs. That is one reason lists differ: one guide may count every recognizable member of the Corps, while another focuses on the better-known guest performances.

Credits scenes and footage are not all new cameos
Sideshow describes two credits sequences: a mid-credits montage built from Fox-film outtakes, and a post-credits scene revisiting the Johnny Storm encounter. These are worth distinguishing from newly filmed in-story appearances. Thor’s repurposed footage and the montage likewise involve existing material, not necessarily a new performance for this film.
Why the film can bring these characters together
The multiverse premise and the Void provide a story mechanism for placing characters from distinct film histories in the same movie. The Los Angeles Times describes the film as drawing on the MCU’s multiverse era and Fox’s character history; GameSpot identifies the Void as the device that gathers variants and exiled characters. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has also discussed how Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox gave Marvel Studios access to X-Men characters and room to develop the mutant saga (The Walt Disney Company interview with Kevin Feige, July 25, 2024).
The cameo appeal rewards recognition, but director Shawn Levy said he did not want viewers to need homework to enjoy the film. In an Associated Press interview, he described himself as someone who does his homework as an adult but does not look for homework at the movies; he also said he made the film with respect for highly knowledgeable fans without presuming that every viewer shared that fluency (Associated Press, April 25, 2024).
How to read cameo lists
When comparing lists, check four things: whether they mean a full scene or a fleeting glimpse; whether the role is a variant or a return from an earlier film; whether the appearance is new footage or archival material; and whether the character moves the plot or mainly delivers a callback. TheWrap, the Los Angeles Times and GameSpot all cover notable appearances, while Sideshow’s expanded guide includes additional variants and quick sightings. Their differing scopes explain why a definitive total is not useful.
For context, the Associated Press reported that the first trailer drew 365 million online views in its first 24 hours after its Super Bowl airing. That is a trailer-view figure—not a count of unique people or a measure of ticket sales (Associated Press, April 25, 2024).
