Who is Gordon Reynolds in Deadpool & Wolverine? Gordon Reynolds is not a separate actor: Ryan Reynolds invented Gordon as a fictional twin-brother persona, then used the name for Nicepool’s performance credit in Deadpool & Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds plays both Wade Wilson/Deadpool and Nicepool; “Gordon Reynolds” is an Easter egg linking Nicepool to a 2016 GQ comedy sketch.
The credit can look like a casting mystery because the film identifies the performer as “Gordon Reynolds” rather than simply Ryan Reynolds. The explanation is a deliberately small piece of Reynolds-style meta-humor: the movie pretends that his old fictional twin performed the polite Deadpool variant.
Key takeaways
- Gordon Reynolds is a fictional identity created by Ryan Reynolds, not a separate actor or a real twin brother.

- Deadpool & Wolverine is a 2024 Marvel Studios film released on July 26, 2024, with digital, 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD editions.

Is Gordon Reynolds a real actor?
No. Gordon Reynolds is a fictional name used by Ryan Reynolds for a recurring comedy bit. No second actor played Nicepool under that name, and Gordon Reynolds is not a newly introduced Marvel performer.
| Name | What it is | Connection to the film |
|---|---|---|
| Ryan Reynolds | The real actor | Performs Wade Wilson/Deadpool and Nicepool |
| Gordon Reynolds | A fictional twin-brother persona created by Ryan Reynolds | Appears as the name attached to the Nicepool performance credit |
| Nicepool | An alternate, unusually courteous Deadpool variant | A character performed by Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool & Wolverine |
| Wade Wilson/Deadpool | The central Deadpool identity played by Reynolds | Another role credited to Ryan Reynolds in the film |
Where did the Gordon Reynolds character come from?
The Gordon Reynolds persona predates Deadpool & Wolverine by several years. On November 14, 2016, GQ published an interview in which Ryan Reynolds was supposedly questioned by his “bitter identical twin,” Gordon Reynolds. The premise treated Gordon as a resentful, insulting sibling who had been left behind.
GQ’s official video description introduced the joke with the line, “Who better to interview GQ Man of the Year Ryan Reynolds than the resentful twin brother he left behind?” You can read the original GQ Gordon Reynolds interview or watch the official GQ video featuring Ryan Reynolds’s fictional twin brother.

Why is Nicepool credited to Gordon Reynolds?
Nicepool is credited to Gordon Reynolds because the film turns Ryan Reynolds’s old fictional-twin joke into a small piece of meta-comedy. The contrast is the point: the earlier Gordon was presented as bitter and abusive, while Nicepool is a conspicuously courteous Deadpool variant.
The movie effectively asks viewers to pretend that Gordon Reynolds—not Ryan Reynolds—is the person performing Nicepool. Viewers who remember the 2016 GQ material can recognize the name as an in-joke; viewers who do not know the reference can still understand Nicepool as another Ryan Reynolds performance.
The credit does not mean that Gordon is Nicepool’s civilian identity, that Gordon is Ryan Reynolds’s actual twin, or that Marvel hired an actor named Gordon Reynolds. The most accurate explanation is simple: Ryan Reynolds played Nicepool, but the film credited that performance under his fictional Gordon Reynolds persona.

Who plays Nicepool?
Ryan Reynolds plays Nicepool in Deadpool & Wolverine. “Gordon Reynolds” is the fictional name used in the credit, not the name of a different performer.
Nicepool is an alternate Deadpool variant whose defining joke is exaggerated politeness. The performance credit adds another layer of humor by pairing that character with Gordon Reynolds, a fictional twin previously portrayed as resentful of Ryan Reynolds.
How does the Gordon Reynolds joke work?
The joke has two levels. Inside the movie, Nicepool is a variant of Deadpool played by Ryan Reynolds. Outside the story, the closing credit pretends that a different Reynolds—his invented twin brother, Gordon—performed the role.

Is Gordon Reynolds Ryan Reynolds’ real twin brother?
No. Gordon Reynolds is not Ryan Reynolds’s real twin brother. Gordon is a fictional character created for the 2016 GQ comedy interview and reused as a meta-joke in the Nicepool credit.
The wording “twin brother” belongs to the premise of the GQ sketch. It should not be read as a biographical claim about Ryan Reynolds’s family or as evidence of a second actor in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Readers who want to check the Nicepool scene or inspect the closing credits can watch Deadpool & Wolverine on Disney+ if the film is available in their territory. Disney+ catalogs and streaming rights can vary by country, so availability should be checked locally rather than assumed from the U.S. or another market.
Marvel also announced digital, 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD editions. A Deadpool & Wolverine 4K UHD Blu-ray is a useful option for viewers who want a physical copy and the ability to revisit the end credits without relying on changing streaming availability. Marvel’s home-entertainment announcement confirms those release formats.
Is the Nicepool credit connected to a real person?
The Gordon Reynolds explanation is supported by the earlier GQ persona and the film’s credit listing. Separate legal claims and entertainment reports have discussed alleged similarities between Nicepool and a real person, but those claims should not be presented as an established explanation for the Gordon Reynolds credit.
Variety reported in January 2025 on a legal document concerning Justin Baldoni and requests involving Disney, Marvel and Ryan Reynolds. That report is evidence that the issue was discussed in a legal context; it does not establish that Nicepool was intentionally based on a specific real-world person. The established part of the credit joke remains the connection to Reynolds’s fictional GQ twin.

Gordon Reynolds is Ryan Reynolds’s fictional twin-brother character from a 2016 GQ comedy bit. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds plays Nicepool, but the film credits the performance as Gordon Reynolds. The name is a meta-joke and Easter egg—not a separate actor credit, a real twin revelation or a new Marvel character identity.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Ryan Reynolds plays Nicepool. “Gordon Reynolds” is the fictional twin persona Reynolds introduced in a 2016 GQ interview, and the Nicepool credit reuses that persona as a meta-joke.
