Spoilers for all six episodes of Dune: Prophecy Season 1. The finale, “The High-Handed Enemy,” reveals that Desmond Hart is Tula Harkonnen’s son, exposes the violence behind Valya’s rise, and links Desmond’s destructive power to implanted nanomachines. It does not reveal who arranged his enhancement. As the palace plot collapses, Valya escapes to Arrakis with Ynez and Keiran, while Tula stays behind—and Desmond has her arrested.
Who is Desmond Hart’s mother?
Desmond is the son of Tula Harkonnen and Orry Atreides. Flashbacks show that Tula became pregnant by Orry, then worked with Francesca to conceal the birth and have the child raised away from the Sisterhood. Tula told Valya that the baby was stillborn, keeping her sister from learning the truth.
The revelation joins Harkonnen and Atreides bloodlines in Desmond. Showrunner Alison Schapker confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that the parentage reveal was planned. Valya sees Desmond’s potential as something to use; Tula fears what their choices have done to him.
On Wallach IX, Tula stops Valya from killing Desmond and tells him who she is. He accepts her embrace, but then orders her arrested. The truth brings mother and son together without reconciling them.

What did Valya do to Dorotea?
Dorotea, speaking through Lila, reveals that Valya used the Voice to kill her. Valya and her allies then killed the Sisters who opposed her takeover as Mother Superior. The Sisterhood’s account of its leadership has concealed a violent seizure of power, lending weight to Desmond’s accusations against Valya.
Schapker described Valya as having “rose to power in a violent way,” and told the TVLine that the series asks what people will do when they believe they are protecting the future. The revelation reframes Valya’s authority: she has pursued what she sees as the Sisterhood’s survival while hiding the bloodshed that secured her position.

What is causing the burning virus?
Tula and Suk doctor Nazir investigate the destructive burning affecting the Sisters, but Nazir cannot stop it. The finale connects Desmond’s power to nanomachines implanted in his body by a thinking machine. The technology helps explain the threat; it does not identify who set the process in motion.
A hooded human watches Desmond’s enhancement. The finale does not name this person, explain their motive, or establish that the watcher is Omnius. Those are possibilities for the continuing mystery, not answers the episode confirms.

Why do Valya, Ynez and Keiran go to Arrakis?
Valya’s plan to kill Emperor Javicco and free Princess Ynez unravels. Francesca cannot kill Javicco after telling him what the Sisterhood planned; he fatally stabs himself. Empress Natalya kills Francesca. Meanwhile, Theodosia’s impersonation helps Valya free Ynez, who insists that Keiran escape with them.
Valya, Ynez and Keiran reach Arrakis. Valya says their path to the enemy begins there, as she sets out to pursue the hidden hand behind Desmond’s enhancement.

Where does the finale leave Tula and Valya?
The sisters split up. Valya leaves for Arrakis to pursue the unknown instigator. Tula remains with Desmond on Wallach IX, where he has her arrested. She is caught between the son whose life she concealed and the Sisterhood whose secrets she helped protect.

How the finale fits the wider Dune story
Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ birth, according to TIME. The series draws inspiration from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s Sisterhood of Dune, but Schapker said Desmond does not appear in the books. The novel offers wider setting and Bene Gesserit context, not an answer key to his story.

That is the finale’s central turn: family ties, Sisterhood history and political ambition all look different once the secrets behind them are exposed.
