Dune: Prophecy is set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides and follows two Harkonnen sisters whose actions lay the groundwork for the Bene Gesserit, according to HBO’s official series description. HBO Max published the official trailer on October 17, 2024. Here’s what the announcement confirms—and what it doesn’t establish about the story.
What the trailer announcement confirms about the story
HBO describes Dune: Prophecy as a drama set “10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides.” Its official logline says the story follows two Harkonnen sisters as they confront forces threatening humanity and establish the sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. That is the confirmed premise; it is safer to treat individual trailer images as glimpses of the series rather than proof of specific plot developments.
HBO says the series is inspired by Sisterhood of Dune, the novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. “Inspired by” is the wording HBO uses: the announcement does not establish that the show follows the book scene for scene or preserves every storyline and character in it. HBO’s announcement

How the series relates to Sisterhood of Dune
HBO connects the series to Sisterhood of Dune through an inspiration credit. The announcement does not detail how closely the show tracks the novel’s characters or events. The reliable points of comparison are the stated relationship (“inspired by”), the series’ setting 10,000 years before Paul Atreides, and the announced six-episode television format.
