You can visit many of the Italian settings associated with Eat Pray Love by following a Rome-centered route through its streets and piazzas, then making a separate stop in Naples around Forcella and Pizzeria da Michele. The clearest individual Rome scene is on Piazza Navona; Liz’s Roman residence is identified by its exterior, not as a building visitors can enter.

Rome: the most recognizable Eat Pray Love locations

The 2010 film, based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestseller, uses several central Rome settings. Start with the locations that are easiest to recognize and visit on foot: public squares and streets. Italy for Movies documents the Rome settings, while Turismo Roma describes the Piazza Navona scene.

Piazza Navona

Turismo Roma identifies the scene in which Liz eats ice cream on a bench beside two nuns, with the facade of Sant’Agnese in Agone behind her. The church facade makes this the most specifically documented Rome scene in the city tourism source. Piazza Navona is a public square; check local conditions before setting out.

Liz’s residence: Via dei Portoghesi

Italy for Movies places Liz’s stay on Via dei Portoghesi, near Via della Scrofa, and associates the residence’s exterior with Palazzo Scapucci, also known as Palazzo della Scimmia. The source identifies the facade only; it does not establish access to the building’s interior.

  • At a crossroads in her life, Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) travels to Italy, India and Bali to discover meaning and happiness in this inspiring true story, based on the best-selling book.

Other Rome settings

Italy for Movies also lists Trastevere, Via del Corso, Piazza di Spagna, Via Condotti, Campo de’ Fiori, Villa Borghese and the Augusteum on the Palatine Hill. These provide additional points of interest, but the source does not attach an equally specific scene description to each one.

Rome’s food-and-street atmosphere

VisitLazio frames the film’s Rome through Trastevere’s lanes, Piazza Navona, Via del Corso, historic-centre trattorias and food scenes. Treat that as the film’s culinary portrait, not as confirmation that every meal shown was filmed at a particular restaurant. The page attributes the line “I’m having a relationship with my pizza… let’s say it’s a form of ‘bread and love and carbohydrates’” to Julia Roberts introducing the Rome food scenes.

Naples: Forcella, Via dei Tribunali and pizza

The Naples locations cluster around Via dei Tribunali and the Forcella area. Italy for Movies identifies Pizzeria da Michele, near Corso Umberto I, as the pizza stop Liz visits. Visit Naples likewise identifies the pizzeria in Forcella and offers a basic orientation from Piazza Garibaldi: follow Corso Umberto I, then head toward Via Cesare Falcone.

Italy for Movies notes that the pizzeria menu shown in the film is limited to margherita and marinara. That is a detail about the film, not confirmation of the restaurant’s current menu or operating conditions. Check directly for current opening information before planning a meal there.

How to plan a location visit

Rome works best as a cluster of central locations, while Naples is a separate visit organized around Forcella, Via dei Tribunali and the pizzeria. Choose stops based on how specifically they are documented, whether they are public spaces or building exteriors, and how naturally they group together.

  • For the clearest Rome scene: prioritize Piazza Navona and Sant’Agnese in Agone.
  • For a street-and-neighborhood route: combine central Rome locations such as Via dei Portoghesi, Piazza Navona, Via del Corso and Campo de’ Fiori, then add Trastevere if it suits your plans.
  • For the Naples food stop: use Forcella and Pizzeria da Michele as anchors, checking current restaurant details before you go.
  • For the residence exterior: view it as an exterior location, not a visitor attraction with established indoor access.

The source descriptions are location references, not live travel updates: they do not establish current restaurant hours, queues, private-building access or transit conditions. Confirm those details close to your visit.
