A program associated with NBC or another network is not automatically available live on Peacock. Some broadcasts may remain on broadcast television, require a participating TV-provider login in another app, be restricted by regional rights, be blacked out, or appear on Peacock only as a replay or on-demand title.
Peacock Channels
Peacock Channels are always-on, linear streams that work more like browsing a television channel than choosing a particular on-demand episode. Examples listed by Peacock include NBC Sports on Peacock, SNL Vault, Fallon Tonight, TODAY All Day, and True Crime. The Peacock Channels directory shows the service’s current channel-style offerings.
Channel availability and programming can change by date, location, and licensing rights. These channels are useful for viewers who want scheduled background viewing, but they are not the same as receiving the full NBC, cable-news, entertainment, or regional-sports lineup through a traditional pay-TV provider.
Does Peacock have a live local NBC channel?
Yes. Peacock Premium Plus provides one geolocation-selected local NBC station as a 24/7 live feed, making Premium Plus the Peacock feature that most closely resembles a conventional local broadcast channel. The local channel is not included with the standard Premium plan.
Peacock explains the local-NBC feature on its official local NBC page and provides additional limitations in its Local NBC help article. The service selects the station using the location shared by the streaming device, rather than letting subscribers freely choose from multiple NBC affiliates.
What are the local NBC channel’s limitations?
- One affiliate: Peacock provides one local NBC channel based on the device’s geolocation; subscribers cannot select any NBC affiliate they want.
- Device-based location: The available feed can change when the device travels. A device used in Tampa, for example, may receive the Tampa-area NBC feed rather than the feed associated with the viewer’s home location.
- No time-shifting controls: The local channel does not support pausing, fast-forwarding, or rewinding in the Channels experience.
- Commercials remain: The local feed includes advertising.
- Rights and blackouts: Regional availability, blackouts, and other rights restrictions can affect what appears. Peacock says an NBC national feed may appear instead of the local station when a rights issue prevents the local feed from being shown.
Peacock says geolocation is not exact. If the wrong local station is assigned, Peacock directs customers to contact Customer Care rather than promising that the station can be manually changed.

Which Peacock plan do you need for live TV?
Peacock Premium is enough for live sports, live events, Peacock Channels, and the service’s on-demand catalog. Peacock Premium Plus is necessary if the specific goal is watching a local NBC station live inside Peacock.

Is Peacock Premium Plus completely ad-free?
No. Peacock Premium Plus removes advertising from much of the on-demand catalog, but live sports, live events, linear channels, and the local NBC channel can still contain normal commercial breaks.
Peacock’s Premium Plus advertising explanation also notes that some shows and movies may contain advertisements because of streaming rights or sponsorship arrangements. “No ads” should therefore be read as a limited on-demand benefit, not as a promise that every Peacock stream is commercial-free.
How do you watch the local NBC station on Peacock?
After subscribing to Premium Plus, open Peacock and select Channels, which appears next to Browse. Peacock says the assigned local NBC channel should appear near the top of the channel lineup.
- Open the Peacock app on a supported television or streaming device.
- Sign in to the account with the Premium Plus subscription.
- Select Channels next to Browse.
- Look near the top of the lineup for the local NBC feed.
- If the wrong station appears, check the device’s location settings and contact Peacock Customer Care if the assignment remains incorrect.
The local station is tied to the streaming device’s detected location. A VPN, travel, inaccurate geolocation, regional rights restriction, or blackout may prevent the expected affiliate from appearing. Peacock does not present the local feed as a substitute for a user-selectable directory of NBC stations.

Peacock may be sufficient for a viewer who wants local NBC, selected live sports, and Peacock’s on-demand catalog. A viewer who wants many local stations, cable news, regional sports networks, or numerous entertainment networks will probably need another service, an antenna, or both.
What is the difference between Peacock and the NBC app?
A Peacock subscription is not a universal TV-provider login for NBC’s separate apps and websites. NBC’s official help information says a Peacock subscription does not count as a TV provider for NBC and several other network apps.
Viewers using the separate NBC app or NBCSports.com may still need access through a participating TV provider for certain streams. Peacock independently carries the live sports and events included under its own rights, so access in Peacock should be checked separately from access in an NBC app.
