Not by itself. YouTube can recommend live streams, but its published guidance does not say that staying live 24/7 earns a recommendation boost. For Indian creators, treat continuous streaming as a programming choice—not an algorithm shortcut—and judge it by whether viewers find the stream, choose to watch, and stay.
How YouTube says recommendations work
YouTube describes recommendations as a way to match content with individual viewers. Its published guidance points to both personalization and how people respond when content is offered. Factors include viewing routines, watch history, interests, subscriptions, language and interactions, as well as whether viewers choose a video, keep watching and show signs of satisfaction. Topic interest, competition and seasonal changes can also affect reach. A video can perform well compared with a channel’s usual results and still receive fewer impressions if competing content is doing better with the same audience.
YouTube says livestreams are among the formats it considers. Its Help guidance also says that experimenting with formats such as Shorts, video-on-demand and livestreams does not inherently confuse the algorithm or hurt a channel’s overall performance. That is not a promise that every format will perform equally well: viewers may respond differently to each piece of content.
What continuous streaming does—and does not—establish
A stream that remains online gives people the opportunity to tune in at different times. That can make sense when the content has a clear ongoing purpose, such as an event, an ambient scene or a continuous service. But uptime alone does not establish that viewers will discover the stream or that YouTube will recommend it more often. YouTube’s public guidance does not document a special ranking benefit for Indian channels that stream continuously, and the available official pages do not report a controlled India-specific comparison of 24/7 channels with comparable channels on regular schedules.

Do not assume that setting your channel location to India will improve recommendations either. YouTube’s India-facing creator FAQ says channel location settings are not used to inform recommendations.
Plan a live stream around its audience and format
Use audience activity when timing matters
YouTube says publishing time is not known to affect a video’s long-term viewership. For a scheduled live event, however, it advises creators to consider when their audience is active. YouTube’s India-facing performance FAQ points creators to the “When your viewers are on YouTube” report in Analytics. Use that report to choose a time when people can participate; an audience’s likely availability may help early attendance, but it is not evidence that all-day streaming gets a recommendation advantage.

Choose vertical or horizontal for the viewing experience
YouTube’s live-stream documentation says vertical live streams can appear in the Shorts feed, where viewers can scroll through them. Horizontal streams are not discoverable in that feed. The formats also differ in features: horizontal streams support clickable links in chat and the channel description, as well as live ad pre-rolls and mid-rolls; those features are unavailable in the vertical live feed. Decide based on the stream’s content, how viewers are likely to watch, and which features you need—not on an assumption that one format guarantees more recommendations.
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days to livestream. Its setup documentation describes mobile, webcam and encoder options. These are operational requirements and setup choices, not recommendation signals.

How to test whether 24/7 streaming helps your channel
- Start with a clear audience promise. Define what someone arriving at any hour will get from the stream. A continuous schedule is only useful if the content is relevant to the people you hope will watch.
- Set a meaningful comparison. Compare the continuous-stream period with your channel’s usual schedule over enough time to account for differences in topic and season. Where possible, compare similar topics, titles, formats and audience windows rather than treating unrelated uploads as a control.
- Review audience behavior in Analytics. Look at impressions and traffic sources, click-through rate where available, watch time, average view duration, unique viewers, concurrent-viewer patterns and returning viewers. Check whether recommendation traffic changes, not merely whether the stream stays online.
- Interpret the result cautiously. YouTube recommends Unique Viewers as a clearer view of active audience size than subscriber count. Use the other measures to understand whether people are finding and watching the stream, but do not treat a change during one test as proof that continuous uptime caused it.
Copyright and reused content still matter
A live schedule does not exempt a creator from YouTube’s rules. Use footage, music and other material only when you have the necessary rights or a valid basis to use it, and make the stream’s value and purpose clear. A repetitive or reused loop should not be treated as a shortcut to recommendations or monetization: the evidence about recommendation behavior does not establish that a loop will be promoted, and a 24/7 schedule does not guarantee eligibility for monetization. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies before streaming material you did not create.
